Following electoral debacle in Lok Sabha polls in Manipur, Chief Minister N Biren Singh acknowledged that the state and the Centre have not met the 'expectations' of the public in the north-eastern state, which was reflected in his party's defeat.
This was the first election that Singh and the BJP faced after the ethnic violence broke out in the state a year ago in May 2023.
In an interview to The Indian Express on June 9, Biren said it was time for him to work with 'even more conviction'.
The Congress won both Lok Sabha seats beating BJP and its ally on June 4.

In an unexpected turn of events, the share market on Tuesday fell sharply mirroring investors' sentiment over the Lok Sabha elections result trends. Both the benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty logged in their worst session in over 4 years.&nbsp;

Both sensex and nifty closed at over 5% lower. Nifty closed 1,379 points lower at 21,884, while Sensex closed a whopping 4,389 points lower at 72,079. Intraday the sensex went down as much as 8.15% and the Nifty fell 8.52%.
During the session, the Nifty 50 companies' market capitalisation loss widened to Rs 10 lakh crore, while the Nifty recorded its biggest intraday decline in over four years.
The shares of Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Larsen &amp; Toubro, State Bank Of India dragged down the market while Hindustan Unilever, Nestle India, Hero MotoCorp, Britannia Industries Ltd, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd cushioned the fall.
Nifty PSU Bank saw the highest decline of 15% during the session as all Nifty sectors with the exception of Nifty FMCG fell.
The broader markets underperformed the benchmarks with S&amp;P BSE Midcap settling 8.07% lower and the S&amp;P BSE smallcap closed 6.79% lower. On the BSE, 19 sectors out of 20 closed lower with BSE utilities the worst performing sector and FMCG emerging as the only gainer.
Around 3,337 stocks declined, 500 advanced, and 97 remained unchanged on the BSE.

Early trends from counting of votes on Tuesday threw up disappointing results for the BJP-led NDA in the Lok Sabha elections, which appears to be losing heavily in its strongholds of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan although it is expected to form the government with about 290 seats.
On its own, the Bharatiya Janata Party appeared to be falling below the majority mark with leads in 236 seats despite significant gains in Odisha, Telangana and Kerala, giving some solace to the party after the unexpected losses in the Hindi belt.
Its rival INDIA alliance, forged together by their common dislike for the BJP and its ideology, was leading in about 230 seats. In the last elections, the BJP had 303 seats on its own, while the NDA had over 350. The Congress party was leading in 99 seats as against 52 it had won in 2019.
However, the bigger surprise was the performance of its ally Samajwadi Party, which was leading in 34 seats in Uttar Pradesh. In the last elections it had won only five seats.
The alliance of the SP and Congress turned the tables on the BJP in its strongest bastion by ensuring a consolidation of anti-BJP votes, limiting the party to leads in only 35 seats as against 62 it had won last time. Together, the SP-Congress alliance was ahead in 42 seats.

Psephologist-turned-politician Yogendra Yadav has predicted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will win 240-260 seats in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
As per Yadav, there will be a silver lining for the Congress party in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections as well-- its seat tally may touch 100.
Earlier, Prashant Kishor had predicted that the BJP would win the Lok Sabha elections.&nbsp;
"A trusted face among those who understand elections and socio-political issues in the country, Yogendra Yadav, has shared his &ldquo;final assessment&rdquo; of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. According to Yogendra ji, BJP may get 240-260 seats and NDA's allies may get 35-45 seats in these elections. Meaning 275-305 seats for BJP/NDA. To form the government in the country, 272 seats are required and BJP/NDA has 303/323 seats in the outgoing Lok Sabha. (Shiv Sena won 18 seats as part of NDA but is no longer with them). Now assess yourself whose government is being formed. On June 4, we will know who is talking about whom," Kishor wrote on X.
According to Yadav, the Congress is likely to win between 85 and 100 seats. The INDIA bloc, which hopes to stop the BJP juggernaut in its tracks, is likely to be reduced to 120-135 seats.
The Congress had won only 52 seats in the 2019 general elections.
Kishor, in an interview this week, said the BJP would comfortably cross the majority mark because there wasn't any significant dissatisfaction against the ruling party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"There may be disappointment, unfulfilled aspirations, but we have not heard of widespread anger," Prashant Kishor told NDTV, hinting that the BJP may not be able to achieve its ambitious '370 seats' target.
The BJP won 303 Lok Sabha seats in the 2019 general elections, riding on the 'Modi wave' in Hindi heartland states. For it to win 370 seats, the party will have to score landslide victories in states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal and Telangana.
