A Junior Commissioned Officer of the Indian army and four&nbsp;soldiers&nbsp;lost their life in an anti-terror operation in Jammu and&nbsp;Kashmir&rsquo;s Poonch district on Monday.&nbsp;&nbsp;The army in a statement said they received inputs about the presence of a group of 4-5 militants in a village in Surankote which borders the Line of Control.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Local reports said that the unit of army came under a barrage of fire as they entered the village, resulting in critical injuries to the JCO and four soldiers.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The army said&nbsp;the&nbsp;critically injured officer and soldiers were evacuated to nearest medical facility but succumbed to their injuries and the operation is still going on.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Five Army personnel, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), were killed in a fierce gunfight with terrorists during an anti-insurgency operation in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, officials said.&nbsp; The operation was launched in a village close to DKG in Surankote in the early hours following intelligence inputs about presence of terrorists, a&nbsp;Defence&nbsp;spokesman said.&nbsp; He said the ultras opened heavy fire on the search parties resulting in critical injuries to the JCO and four other ranks.&nbsp; All the five soldiers succumbed to their injuries.&nbsp; The encounter with the terrorists was going on and further details are awaited, the spokesman said.&nbsp; The officials said there are reports about presence of a group of heavily-armed terrorists in&nbsp;Chamrer&nbsp;forest after they managed to sneak from across the Line of Control (LoC).&nbsp; Reinforcements have been rushed to the area to plug all escape routes to ensure the terrorists are&nbsp;neutralised, they said.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Security forces have been conducting an operation for over 48 hours to locate militants who infiltrated through the Line of Control in Uri and neighbouring areas on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.
The infiltration in Uri coincided with the fifth anniversary of the Uri attack in which 19 soldiers were killed on September 18, 2016
Reinforcements have been sent to the area along with a small unit of Special Forces.
The army has not been able to locate the infiltrators expected for a brief encounter on Sunday during which an army jawan suffered a minor injury. Media reports suggest that a group of 6 militants came through the LoC.
Mobile, landlines and internet connectivity remain suspended in Uri after being shut down on Monday.
Lt Gen DP Pandey, who is the commanding officer of the J&amp;K based 15 Corps, has said that while the operation is ongoing the forces have not been able to verify whether the militants are still in J&amp;K or have gone back.
He also said that there have been some infiltration attempts in 2021 but only 2 of them, including the one of Saturday night, have been successful.
