Fear gripped residents in the Yelenahalli town of Ooty after a bear and a leopard strayed into the residential area of the city in the early hours of Saturday. The CCTV footage of the residential area shows the leopard and bear straying into the premises.
After the development, villagers have demanded that the forest department officials track the animals and cage them. The hill district of the Nilgiris has 65 per cent of the forest area, populated with many wild animals including elephants, tigers, leopards, bears, and bison.
Poultry farms in and around these localities attract leopards in nearby forests who venture into the residential areas and also hunt the dogs and goats of the village.
Footage of the wild animals has created fear amongst the villagers who are now afraid to come out of their homes in the evenings. Further details into the matter are awaited.

A 12-year-old boy had a close encounter with a leopard but his quick thinking made him a hero. This incident took place in Maharashtra's Nashik on Tuesday at 6 am. As the leopard came wandering inside an office cabin, the boy quickly locked it till help arrived.&nbsp;
Mohit Ahire, the 12-year-old boy is the son of a wedding hall security guard. The incident of the boy locking the leopard was caught on camera.&nbsp;
The video shows Mohit engrossed in a mobile game inside the office of the wedding hall when a leopard enters the room and goes past the boy. Mohit stayed calm and locked the door behind him.&nbsp;
Ahire then informed his father about the leopard. This prompted a swift response from the authorities. Forest officers from the Malegaon range coordinated with the Nashik City team to tranquilise and rescue the five-year-old male leopard.

A male leopard escaped from the rescue and rehabilitation centre at Pune's Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park on Monday. The leopard named Sachin was caught on CCTV camera on Tuesday but hasn't been sighted since.&nbsp;
The Wild Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre (WARRC) and Zoo staff, teams of the Pune Fire Brigade and the State Forest Department are conducting rescue operations. A drone has also been deployed to trace the leopard, officials said.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Vikas Dhakane confirmed that the leopard is within the zoo premises. Dhakane said, "The rescue operation is on and the best of the equipment and manpower has been deputed for the purpose. However, the animal is changing locations regularly. The zoo has been cordoned off with staff deputed on all sides of the zoo."
"The leopard has been in captivity for a long time. The operation is being conducted with all possible precautions and safety measures. A total of around 200 people from various agencies are part of the effort," Dhakane further added.&nbsp;
The leopard Sachin was brought from Hampi in Karnataka about three months ago in an animal exchange programme. He was living in the Wild Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre (WARRC) located within the zoo.&nbsp;

A male leopard got its head trapped in a metal vessel for five long hours in Dhule district of Maharashtra. In a video, the animal was seen making efforts to take his head out of the pot. However, it failed.
The forest officials later tranquillized the leopard and carefully removed the pot from its head. According to Range Forest Officer Savita Sonawane, "A male leopard spent five hours with its head stuck in a metal vessel in a village in Dhule district. It was later rescued by the Forest department."
The Union Environment Ministry on February 29 released the 'Status of Leopards in India, 2022' report.' According to the report, there are an estimated 13,874 leopards in India, up from 12,852 in 2018.

In the video, &nbsp;a group of people were also seen watching the leopard from a mesh window. The video also shows the wild animal growling at the people looking at it. Later, the leopard was seen trying to open a door in an attempt to get out.&nbsp;
According to reports, the leopard was later rescued by the Forest Department.&nbsp;

Leopard spotted in Delhi, social media videos show big cat jumping from wall

A leopard has been spotted in Delhi's Sainik Farm area, a forest department official said on Saturday.
Two trap cages have been set up to capture the big cat, the official added.
According to Subodh Kumar, a beat officer from the forest department (Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary), two teams of the department have been deployed.
"We got a call about a leopard that was spotted at night. With the help of the local police, we conducted a search at 9.30 am and spotted the animal near a farmhouse," Kumar said.
It is a full-grown leopard weighing about 80 to 90 kg, he added. The forest department has set up two trap cages and instructed people not to gather near those, a police official said.
Two video clips of the feline have surfaced on the social media, in which the animal could be seen loitering near a farmhouse. In one of the videos, a policeman is seen running, before the leopard jumped from a wall and ran into the jungle.
At least 40 personnel from the forest department and Delhi Police have been deployed in the area, an official said.
"We are alerting the people in the vicinity to remain alert and careful. Sharing the contact of forest officials to inform in case the leopard is seen by anyone," the official said.
In the evening, the Neb Sarai police station staff made public announcements requesting the people to stay inside their homes.&nbsp;
