A day after recording under 50,000 new Covid cases for the first time since July, India recorded over 54,000 in the last 24 hours, according to the health ministry data released on Wednesday morning. Total coronavirus infections in the country have now gone past 76.5 lakhs. 717 deaths in the last 24 hours have taken the Covid fatalities to close to 1 lakh and 16 thousand. Number of active Covid cases in the country has come down to 7.4 lakh while the number of recoveries is now touching 68 lakhs.

Amid a record spike in coronavirus cases in the Capital, gyms and yoga centres are set to reopen. In an order issued late on the Sunday night, the Delhi government allowed gyms and yoga centres capital to reopen after being closed for over five months due to the Covid-19 pandemic. All coronavirus protocols issued by the central government have to be strictly followed, including masks and social distancing apart from sanitizing hands. According to the order, weekly markets have also been allowed on a trial basis till September 30 under 'Unlock-4'.

New Delhi, PTI: Amid record spike in coronavirus cases in the Capital, gyms and yoga centres are set to open today. The Delhi government on Sunday allowed gyms and yoga centres capital to reopen after being closed for over five months due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In an order issued late on the Sunday night, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) said that gymnasiums and yoga institutes will be permitted to reopen in the city, except in the containment zones, with immediate effect.
According to the order, weekly markets have also been allowed on a trial basis till September 30 under 'Unlock-4'.
The AAP dispensation and the Lieutenant Government office have recently been at loggerheads over the reopening of gyms in the national capital. Last month, the Delhi government had sent a proposal to Lt Governor Anil Baijal in this regard, but it was turned down.
The decision about reopening gyms and yoga centres comes at a time the city has been witnessing a surge in the number of coronavirus cases.
On Sunday, the tally of coronavirus cases in Delhi rose to 2.18 lakh with 4,235 more people contracting the viral disease, while 29 fresh fatalities in the last 24 hours pushed the death toll to 4,744.
This was the fifth day in a trot that the national capital recorded a daily spike of over 4,000 fresh cases. The city recorded its biggest single-day jump of 4,321 fresh Covid-19 cases on Saturday, 4,266 on Friday, 4,308 on Thursday and 4,039 on Wednesday.

Fear of 2nd wave in Delhi: highest day spike since pandemic began

The city over all infection tally also&nbsp;breached the two lakh-mark, while&nbsp;the death toll mounted to 4,638.&nbsp;The previous highest&nbsp;single-day spike of 3,947 cases was recorded on June 23.&nbsp;The number of Covid-19 tests conducted in a single day also rose to a new record high with 54,517 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.&nbsp;Over the past week, Delhi has recorded more than 2,800 new cases every day on an average.&nbsp;Cases in Delhi rose rapidly through May and June but started dropping by the end of June after hitting an initial peak. After a steady drop in cases for around three weeks, cases again started rising alarmingly from mid-August. As of Wednesday, there are 2,01,174 cases in the city.&nbsp;

Twenty-nine fatalities were recorded in the last 24 hours.
As many as 26,829 rapid antigen tests and 9,217 RTPCR/CBNAAT/TrueNat tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.
The number of Containment zones stands at 1,076.
The total number of cases stands at 1,91,499, of which 1,65,973 patients have either been discharged, recovered or migrated. The number of active cases stands at 20,909.&nbsp;
