In a heartfelt tribute to one of basketball's most iconic figures, the Los Angeles Lakers have commemorated Kobe Bryant with a bronze statue at Star Plaza, located outside the Crypto.com Arena. This honour places Bryant among other Lakers greats such as Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Elgin Baylor, Jerry West, Chick Hearn, and Shaquille O&rsquo;Neal, all of whom have been similarly celebrated.
The unveiling of Bryant's statue comes after the tragic loss of the basketball legend in a helicopter crash in 2020, amidst foggy conditions over Calabasas, southern California. Bryant's untimely death deeply affected fans and the basketball community worldwide, marking the end of an era for the sport.
Kobe Bryant's illustrious career spanned two decades with the Lakers, setting a record for the longest tenure with a single NBA team. Throughout his career, Bryant's achievements on the court were nothing short of remarkable. He scored a total of 33,643 points, securing his position as the third-highest scorer in NBA history. Bryant's scoring prowess was highlighted by his average of 25.0 points per game and his unforgettable 60-point farewell performance on April 13, 2016.
