A local court in Kerala has sentenced a 41-year-old man to 142 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl for a period of two years.
Pathanamthitta Additional District and Sessions Court (Principal POCSO) judge Jayakumar John sentenced Anandan P R to 142 years of jail and imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh on the convict, a release issued by the district police said on Friday. This is the record punishment awarded to a POCSO case accused in the district, the release said.
The rape convict Anandan, who hails from Pathanamthitta, however, would have to undergo a total of 60 years in jail.
Anandan, who is a relative of the 10-year-old victim, was convicted under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
The court said the accused used to sexually assault the child brutally during 2019-2021.

Syama and Manu plan to approach the High Court to get their marriage registered as one between transgender individuals under the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019.
"We are just finishing the paperwork to approach Kerala High court. After this, we will go to the High Court with all legal documents," Manu told media persons at the wedding ceremony.The couple expressed contentment and thanked everyone for their support. ”We are so happy that our family and friends are here with us. This is the most precious moment for us because we waited so long for this day," Manu said.
