Saudi Arabia underlined the importance of dialogue between Islamabad and New Delhi to resolve their outstanding issues.

During a meeting with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Saudi de-facto ruler Prince Mohammed bin Salman echoed India's stand on resolving the Kashmir issue through mutual dialogue.
In a joint statement issued a day after both leaders met on April 7 in Mecca, the crown prince underlined the importance of dialogue between Islamabad and New Delhi to resolve their outstanding issues.
Notably, the Saudi's statement makes no mention of the UNSC resolution on Kashmir, which has been the long-standing demand of Pakistan to resolve the dispute.&nbsp;
Their discussions centred on fortifying the fraternal relations between the two brotherly nations and exploring avenues for enhanced collaboration across various sectors, according to the joint statement.
They also discussed regional issues, including Kashmir, which was mentioned in the statement.
&ldquo;The two sides stressed the importance of dialogue between Pakistan and India to resolve the outstanding issues between the two countries, especially the Jammu and Kashmir dispute to ensure peace and stability in the region,&rdquo; it read.
New Delhi's long-held position has been that Kashmir is a bilateral issue between India and Pakistan and there is no question of any mediation or intervention by any third party.
The ties between the two countries nosedived after India abrogated Article 370 of the Constitution, revoking the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcating the State into two Union Territories on August 5, 2019.
India&rsquo;s decision evoked strong reactions from Pakistan, which downgraded diplomatic ties and expelled the Indian envoy. India has repeatedly told Pakistan that Jammu and Kashmir &ldquo;was, is and shall forever&rdquo; remain an integral part of the country.
India has said it desires normal neighbourly relations with Pakistan in an environment free of terror, hostility and violence.
The joint statement also said that emphasis was placed on the Gulf Kingdom's supportive role in Pakistan's economy and the mutual desire to strengthen trade and investment ties.
&ldquo;Both parties affirmed their commitment to expediting the first wave of investment package worth $ 5 billion which was discussed previously,&rdquo; it read.
The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest, including the worrying situation in Gaza and urged for international efforts to halt Israeli military operations in Gaza and, mitigate humanitarian impact.
&ldquo;They discussed the need for advancing the peace process in accordance with relevant resolutions of the Security Council and the General Assembly as well as the Arab Peace Initiative aimed at finding a just and comprehensive solution, for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital,&rdquo; according to the statement.
Prime Minister Sharif invited Bin Salman to undertake an official visit to Pakistan, which was accepted by the Crown Prince.
Sharif accompanied a high-level delegation to the Kingdom on Saturday on his maiden foreign trip to perform Umrah and meet the leadership of Saudi Arabia.
Separately, Radio Pakistan reported that Prime Minister Sharif and the Saudi Crown Prince reaffirmed their common resolve to further strengthen bilateral ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Both leaders appreciated the upward trajectory of longstanding fraternal relations between the two countries.&nbsp;

Reports of actor Emraan Hashmi and his team being injured in stone-pelting during shoot in Pahalgam surfaced online. Following which, the actor took to Twitter and rubbished the news. Calling the reports ‘inaccurate’, Emraan tweeted that the people of Kashmir have been very warm towards him and his team and it has been an absolute joy shooting in Srinagar and Pahalgam.  Emraan has been shooting for Marathi filmmaker Tejas Vijay Deoskar's ‘Ground Zero’ in Kashmir for the last few weeks. Reports of Emraan Hashmi being injured in a stone pelting incident in Pahalgam, Kashmir, went viral on social media on September 19, and left his fans worried.  
Earlier, an ANI report said that one person had been arrested for allegedly pelting stones on a film crew in Pahalgam. The Anantnag Police had told the news agency, ‘During the ongoing film shooting at Pahalgam, on September 18, at the closing of the shooting at 7:15pm, One miscreant pelted stones at the crew members. Accordingly, an FIR was registered at Police Station Pahalgam. The miscreant was identified and arrested.’  In an August 29 report, Greater Kashmir quoted a member of the crew as saying that it was the first time Emraan has visited the valley. ‘The actor reached Srinagar on August 24 and the film unit has begun shooting. The shoot will go on for the next 15 days and it will take place at different locations of Srinagar including the Dal Lake,’ he said.  After the actor rubbished the rumours on social media, fans expressed their concern. One Twitter user wrote, ‘Glad you're okay star. Take care of yourself, keep tweeting,’ while another tweeted, ‘Thank God!! It was inaccurate news. Stay safe boss @emraanhashmi.’  On the work front, Emraan will be seen in ‘Selfiee’ co-starring Akshay Kumar, Nushrratt Bharuccha and Diana Penty which is slated to release on February 23, 2022.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan wants to have "permanent peace" with India through dialogue as war is not an option for either of the countries to resolve the Kashmir issue, according to a media report on Saturday.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan wants to have "permanent peace" with India through dialogue as war is not an option for either of the countries to resolve the Kashmir issue, according to a media report on Saturday.
Speaking to a delegation of students from Harvard University, Sharif also said that sustainable peace in the region was linked to the resolution of the Kashmir issue as per the UN resolutions, The News International newspaper reported.
&ldquo;Pakistan resolves to maintain peace in the region, and that sustainable peace in the region was linked to the resolution of the Kashmir issue as per the UN resolutions,&rdquo; he said.
&ldquo;We want permanent peace with India through dialogue as war is not an option for either of the countries,&rdquo; he was quoted as saying in the report.
Relations between India and Pakistan have often been strained over the Kashmir issue and cross-border terrorism emanating from Pakistan.
However, the ties between the two countries nosedived after India abrogated Article 370 of the Constitution, revoking the special status to Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcating the state into two Union Territories on August 5, 2019.

He said Pakistan was not an aggressor, but its nuclear assets and the trained army are deterrence, he said, adding that Islamabad spends on its military to protect their frontiers and not for aggression.
In response to a question about Pakistan's economy and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme, the premier said that the country's economic crisis stem from structural problems along with political instability in the recent decades.
He said the first few decades since the inception of Pakistan witnessed impressive growth across all sectors of the economy when there were plans, national will and the implementation mechanism to produce outcomes.
&ldquo;Overtime, we lost the edge in sectors in which we were ahead. The lack of focus, energy and policy action led to reduction in national productivity,&rdquo; Sharif added.
Cash-starved Pakistan is facing growing economic challenges, with high inflation, sliding forex reserves, a widening current account deficit and a depreciating currency.
With the rising current account deficit at USD 13.2 billion in the first nine months and pressing external loan repayment requirements, Pakistan required financial assistance of USD 9-12 billion till June 2022 to avert further depletion of foreign currency reserves.
As Pakistan turned 75 on August 14, Sharif wrote an essay in The Economist magazine in which he stated that the country in its adolescence, in the 1960s, brimmed with hope and promise as it had a date with destiny.
He said the nation was widely thought ready to "become the next Asian tiger&rdquo;. However, in 2022, Pakistan found itself mired in its latest economic crisis.
Meanwhile, the International Monetary Fund's executive board will meet on August 29 and is expected to approve a bailout package for Pakistan, including the pending disbursement of about USD 1.18 billion.

Four terrorists, including one involved in the killing of a teacher last month, were gunned down in two encounters with security forces in Kulgam and Anantnag districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, police said.
Security forces launched an anti-terrorism operation in Kulgam's Mishipora area on Tuesday, following information of the presence of terrorists there, a police spokesperson said.
After the initial exchange of fire with the security forces, the terrorists managed to move to the general area of Mishipora, he added.
However, the security forces maintained the cordon and continued the search operation, which resulted in a fresh gunbattle on Thursday, leading to the killing of two ultras, the spokesperson said.
One of the slain terrorists was identified as Zubair Sofi of Kulgam's Mohanpora, he informed.
Sofi was involved in the killing of Rajni Bala, a teacher, on May 31, the spokesperson said, adding that the identification of the other terrorist is being ascertained.
The operation is still in progress, a police official said.
Another encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in the Hangalgund area of neighbouring Anantnag district, the spokesperson said.
Two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were killed in the operation, which was going on till last reports came in, he added.
"Killed #terrorists identified as Junaid and Basit Bhat of HM #terror outfit. #Terrorist Basit was involved in #killing of BJP's Sarpanch Gh Rasool Dar and his wife, a Panch on 9/8/21 in #Anantnag," Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Vijay Kumar said in a tweet.
