According to a letter to the governor by the Karnataka Congress, Legislative Party dated May 20, these include Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's son Priyank Kharge, G Parameshwara, MB Patil, 7-time MP KH Muniyappa, KJ George, Satish Jarkiholi, Ramalinga Reddy and BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan.

The announcement of the name of Karnataka's next chief minister has been delayed further. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge wants to meet more MLAs from the state before making his decision, according to reports.&nbsp;

Terming the Congress as being weak and incapable of taking on the BJP on its own, the CPI(M) also batted for a state-wise alliance to defeat the saffron party in the 2024 general elections.

The ruling CPI(M) in Kerala on Monday took a veiled dig at the Congress by asking it to safeguard its newly elected Karnataka MLAs from being poached by the BJP as was allegedly done by the saffron party in Goa amidst the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
Terming the Congress as being weak and incapable of taking on the BJP on its own, the CPI(M) batted for a state-wise alliance to defeat the saffron party in the 2024 general elections.
"A national-level alliance will not be helpful. We need to unite all the anti-BJP groups at the state-level and defeat the BJP in each state. That is the only way forward," CPI(M) state secretary M V Govindan said.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had suggested a similar strategy a day ago.
Govindan said the contention that Congress was the only party capable of taking on the BJP was "only an argument".
"Everyone who knows Congress knows that Karnataka was the only state where they could contest polls effectively. The other states where they can are Gujarat, Rajasthan and some similar states.
"But there too, the Congress is in a weak position. Even now, they have internal conflicts," he contended.
The CPI(M) state secretary said the Congress should focus on deciding a Chief Minister and cabinet ministers for Karnataka while remaining careful and vigilant against any alleged attempts by the BJP to poach their MLAs.
"Everyone knows that the BJP has the wherewithal to buy MLAs. It happened in Goa amidst the then ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra," he said.
The CPI(M) leader was referring to the crossing over of eight of the 11 Congress MLAs in Goa in September last year to the ruling BJP in the western state just months after the Assembly elections were held there.
Govindan asserted that the BJP was the biggest threat and the people want to defeat it.
Therefore, all anti-BJP groups should come together to defeat it as one, he said.
Govindan's statement is in contrast to his party colleague and Fisheries Minister Saji Cheriyan's view that Congress was one of the strongest parties in India and there was nothing wrong with asking them to come forward in the fight against BJP.
"Let them lead from the front," he said and at the same time added that he does not agree with the Congress' stand on various issues in Kerala.
"However, to ensure secularism in the country, they need to be at the forefront. There is no argument on that," he had said.

BJP candidate C K Ramamurthy has won the Jayanagar Assembly seat in Karnataka by a slender margin of 16 votes against his Congress rival Soumya Reddy on Saturday, officials said.
The elections to 224 Assembly seats in the state was held on May 10 and the polled votes were taken up for counting on Saturday.
"The result was announced by the officials at the Counting Centre at S S M R V College in Jayanagar" late on Saturday, a state Information Department official said in a statement.
Tension prevailed when the counting was taking place as the Congress state president D K Shivakumar along with state unit working president Ramalinga Reddy, who is also the father of Sowmya Reddy, and many other leaders staged a demonstration outside the polling booth, demanding justice.
They alleged misuse of government machinery to favour Ramamurthy.
Election officials declared Ramamurthy as the winner with a thin margin of 16 votes.
With this, the Congress has won 135 seats in the 224-member Karnataka Assembly. The BJP has won 66 seats and the JD(S) 19, according to the Election Commission.

While DK Shivakumar is seen as the troubleshooter of Congress party, Siddaramaiah is the more popular face with a pan-state appeal.

Congress has emerged victorious in the Karnataka election, but the party faces another challenging task ahead - choosing the new Chief Minister. There are mainly two contenders for the top post - Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar.
 WILL D.K.S. PREVAIL?
Shivakumar is the president of the Congress' Karnataka unit. He is known as one of the party's most important trouble-shooters.
Shivakumar demonstrated this in 2018, when the election resulted in a hung Assembly. He helped Congress keep its flock together till a post-poll alliance with JD(S) was finalised, although the government later fell as 14 Congress MLAs defected to BJP.
Shivakumar had used these skills in 2017 to protect Gujarat MLAs from poaching attempts by shifting them to a resort near Bengaluru. The same year, Shivakumar helped Sonia Gandhi's key aide Ahmed Patel win a Rajya Sabha election.
Another sign of Shivakumar's influence is that the only Congress MP from Karnataka in the current Lok Sabha is his brother. Shivakumar has reportedly not lost an election since 1989, and served as minister in various governments.
He hails from a modest agrarian family from the Vokkaliga community, but Shivakumar is now among the richest politicians in the state. He declared total family assets of ₹1,358 crore in the 2023 polls.
The Congress leader has also been facing heat from the CBI, Income Tax Department, and the Enforcement Directorate in alleged money laundering and tax evasion cases. He also spent around 50 days in jail after in 2019.
 WILL 'SIDDA' MAKE A COMEBACK?
The other candidate is Siddaramaiah whose first stint as Chief Minister began in 2013, when he edged out current Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge to lead the Congress government.
Considered one of the tallest mass leaders in Karnataka currently, Siddaramaiah belongs to the Kuruba community, which is reportedly the third-largest caste in the state.
He first became an MLA in 1983 on a Lok Dal Party ticket, but later joined the Janata Dal (Secular). In 2004, when the Congress and JD(S) formed a coalition government, Siddaramaiah became the deputy CM.
By 2005, he was positioning himself as a backward classes leader, but was ousted from the JD(S), apparently after running afoul of a rising HD Kumaraswamy. In 2006, Siddaramaiah joined the Congress.
Ahead of the last elections in 2018 - when Congress was voted out - Siddaramaiah is believed to have committed a blunder by deciding to grant "religious minority" status to Lingayats.
He has declared that the 2023 polls are his last electoral foray.
