Shershaah writer Sandeep Srivastava felt without their love story the film would be incomplete. It is through their love story, played by Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani on screen, the film captured the horrors of war, longing and loss.
Srivastava said, that he thought Captain Vikram Batra cutting his thumb to apply sindoor on his girlfriend Dimple Cheema's forehead was &lsquo;cooked up&rsquo;. But he added that Dimple confirmed that it actually happened.

In an interview, Sandeep said, that during his research he learned that Dimple knew Captain Batra for 4 years, but they spent only 40 days together. The two had planned to tie the knot, before he died. 
After Vikram's death in the Kargil war, Dimple decided that she wouldn't get married, and wanted to live the rest of her life with Vikram's memories.
Directed by Vishnu Varadhan, 'Shershaah' is based on the life of Param Vir Chakra awardee Vikram Batra. He died during the Kargil War in 1999.&nbsp;

Observed on 26th July every year, the Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorates the success of the Indian Armed Forces in Operation Vijay. It was on this day, 22 years ago, that the Indian Armed Forces recaptured all the Indian posts which had been illegally occupied by the Pakistani intruders in key strategic locations of the Kargil-Dras region. The Kargil war witnessed several casualties and loss of life on both sides of the LOC.
The day aims at paying homage to the raw courage, unmatched valour and sacrifice of our brave soldiers. In an attempt to remember the supreme sacrifice made by our soldiers in this conflict, a War Memorial has been constructed at Dras. The memorial known as the &ldquo;Kargil War Memorial&rdquo; holds within itself the Amar Jawan Jyoti, the Manoj Pandey Gallery and the Veer Bhoomi.
To date, Operation Vijay continues to be regarded as one of the finest victories in Indian military history. The unwavering strength and ferocity with which the soldiers fought against the enemy strongholds shall forever be remembered.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Former Air Force pilot&nbsp;Gunjan Saxena&nbsp;on Thursday told the Delhi High Court that she has not faced any discrimination on the basis of her gender in the Indian Air Force.&nbsp;She maintained that Air Force gave her an opportunity to serve the nation, including in the Kargil War and she will forever remain grateful for the opportunities given to her by the force. Her submission came amid controversy over the film&nbsp;''Gunjan Saxena - The Kargil Girl''. Centre has moved court claiming that the Netflix&nbsp;movie depicts IAF&nbsp;in poor light and shows it as gender biased.

New Delhi, PTI: Former Flight Lieutenant Gunjan Saxena Thursday told the Delhi High Court that she has not faced any discrimination on the basis of her gender in the Indian Air Force. She maintained that Air Force gave her an opportunity to serve the nation, including in the Kargil War and she will forever remain grateful for the opportunities given to her by the force.
Saxena made the submissions in her affidavit, in a suit filed by the Centre, seeking a decree of permanent injunction against the Netflix, Dharma Productions and others from broadcasting or releasing in theatres or any other digital platform the film ''Gunjan Saxena - The Kargil Girl'', without grant of no-objection certificate (NOC) from it.
According to the Centre, the film which was streaming on Netflix, depicts the IAF in poor light and dents its image as it shows that the force is gender biased, which is not correct.
Saxena, in her affidavit filed before Justice Rajiv Shakdher, clarified that the movie is not a documentary but is only inspired by her life and it is clear from the two disclaimers placed at the beginning of the film which gives a message to motivate young women to join IAF.
"The Deponent (Saxena) does not claim that everything that is shown in the movie has happened with her in her real life. However, the deponent believes that the message sought to be conveyed through the movie is to motivate young women to join the Indian Air Force and, on a broader canvas, the aim is to inspire young women to pursue their dreams, not to doubt themselves and to work hard towards their goals," she said in the affidavit filed through advocate Aditya Dewan.
