A truck carrying kanwariyas came in contact with a hanging electric wire in Rajasthan's Alwar district on Wednesday, leaving two dead and 30 others injured, police said.
The incident took place when a group of kanwars (devotees of Lord Shiva) and some locals were performing a 'parikrama' (circumambulation) around the village.
A truck in the group came in contact with a hanging electric wire due to which the pilgrims were electrocuted.
"Two persons have died and around 30 are injured," the police said.
After the incident in Beechganwa village, locals blocked the Laxmangarh-Mundawar protesting against hanging electric wires.
They alleged that complaints of hanging wires was given to authorities but no action was take.
However, Laxmangarh tehsildar Mamta Kumari said she was not aware of the complaint.
The administration assured the villagers of proper medical care for the injured and promised a detailed investigation into the cause of the incident.

The Delhi Traffic Police on Monday announced the closure of a key stretch of the GT Road till 8 am on July 23, due to the ongoing Kanwar Yatra.
The left carriageway of the road from the Keshav Chowk roundabout to Yudhishthir Setu (ISBT) will remain closed to vehicular movement from 8 am on July 21 to 8 am on July 23.
Commuters using Swami Dayanand Marg towards ISBT have been advised to take the Keshav Chowk underpass to proceed to Maujpur or, alternatively, take a U-turn at Shyam Chowk and reach ISBT via Swami Dayanand Marg, Vikas Marg or the Master Plan Road.
Vehicles coming from Seelampur T-Point should use Road No. 66 to access Wazirabad Road, while those approaching from Dharampura T-Point may either continue on Road No. 66 up to Wazirabad Road or divert through the Keshav Chowk underpass towards Vikas Marg, it said.
Traffic heading from the Old Iron Bridge for GT Road is being channelled onto the Pusta Road corridor via Kailash Nagar and Gandhi Nagar; commuters from Shastri Park Pusta Road can join GT Road at Shastri Park and proceed to Road No. 66 or continue to the Keshav Chowk underpass for onward movement to Vikas Marg, the advisory read.
In addition, traffic attempting to reach GT Road from Khajoori Chowk will be regulated and diverted along Wazirabad Road for onward access to ISBT to prevent bottlenecks on the restricted stretch, it said.

A group of kanwariyas was allegedly attacked by intoxicated men near Chandoora village in UP's Barabanki district.

A group of kanwariyas was allegedly attacked by some intoxicated men in Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh following a dispute late Sunday, police said.
Police said the incident occurred at around 11 pm near Chandoora village, and the situation was quickly brought under control. Two suspects have been taken into custody, it said.
The kanwariyas, after offering water at the Prasanna Nath Mahadev Temple, were walking from Bhagauli Tirth towards the Lodheswar Mahadev temple in Ramnagar, which is a traditional pilgrimage route followed during the Hindu month of Shravan (Sawan), dedicated to Lord Shiva.
There was an altercation between the kanwariyas and a group of men near a shop. As the pilgrims moved ahead, about six men intercepted them near a petrol station between the villages of Raipur and Chandoora and attacked them.
The Mohammadpur Khala police station is located close to the scene, and personnel responded promptly.
"There was a confrontation that escalated into a minor clash," said Circle Officer (Fatehpur) Jagat Ram Kanaujia.
"Two people have been taken into custody, and the Kanwar Yatra is continuing peacefully. No injuries have been reported," he added.
Sub-divisional Magistrate Kartikeya Singh said all pilgrims were safely escorted toward the Lodheswar Mahadev Temple under police protection.
One of the detained suspects, identified as Durgesh, was apparently intoxicated and is being questioned, he added.
It was not immediately known what the dispute that led to the clash was about.

In the first incident, a 28-year-old kanwariya (devotee of Lord Shiva)identified as Amit was killed and three others were injured after their pickup vehicle overturned near the Simli bypass on Sunday night.
According to Station House Officer (SHO) Jaiveer Singh Bhati, the four kanwariyas were returning to Mahendragarh from Haridwar after collecting Ganga water when the accident took place. The injured were taken to a hospital.
In another incident, a 35-year-old kanwariya identified as Vicky, a resident of Najafgarh in Delhi, was found unconscious near Panchenda Bridge on the Delhi-Dehradun National Highway on Sunday evening.
SHO Dinesh Chand Baghel said Vicky was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
It is suspected that he suffered fatal head injuries after being hit by an unidentified vehicle while walking back to Delhi from Haridwar. The body has been sent for postmortem.

Circle Officer Raju Kumar Sab said a case has been registered against Vaibhav, Gulshan Kumar, and Krishan Kumar under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
On Sunday, thousands of kanwariyas (Lord Shiva devotees), heading back from Haridwar in Uttarakhand with Gangajal, were greeted by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath with a helicopter showering flowers on them in Muzaffarnagar.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday said efforts are being made to defame kanwar pilgrims who are subjected to a media trial and termed terrorists and rioters. This, he asserted, stems from mentality that wants to insult India's heritage.
Speaking in support of the Shiva devotees at a seminar on tribal icon Birsa Munda, the chief minister said those who seek to defame the kanwar 'yatris' are the same people who tried to separate the tribal community from India.
"They conspired at every level to make them fight against India. This is the same community that always insults the faith of India and these are the same people who today want to create a situation of caste conflict by creating fake accounts on social media platforms," Adityanath said.
The chief minister said the everyone from society, from the working classes to the upper classes, is associated with the yatra.
"There is a wonderful confluence of unity. No discrimination. There is no distinction of caste, no distinction of region, no distinction of class, no difference of opinion, no difference of sect, they go chanting 'Har Har Bam Bam'. They walk 300-400 kilometres, then take water from there, put the kanwar on their shoulders and walk back in the same way with the same devotion," Adityanath said.

'No provocative slogans, display of weapons': UP CM's directives for Kanwar Yatra, Muharram

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath chaired a high-level meeting to ensure law, order, and public safety during upcoming festivals including Kanwar Yatra, Raksha Bandhan, and Muharram.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday chaired a high-level review meeting with senior officials to ensure robust law and order, communal harmony, and appropriate public amenities during the upcoming festivals in Uttar Pradesh.
The meeting involved extensive discussions with all police commissioners, divisional commissioners, district magistrates, and senior superintendents of police across the state.
The chief minister issued clear instructions that all religious events must be conducted with devotion, safety, and social harmony, and the administrative machinery must work with full sensitivity and alertness.
Adityanath noted that the sacred Hindu month of Shravan will be observed from July 11 to August 9, during which traditional Kanwar Yatra, Shravani Shivratri, Nag Panchami, and Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated. Additionally, Jagannath Rath Yatra is expected between June 27 and July 8, and Muharram between June 27 and July 7.
"This entire period is highly sensitive in terms of law and order, healthcare, sanitation, education, and disaster management. Hence, all related departments and district administrations must work with coordination and accountability," Adityanath said, according to an official statement.
The chief minister gave special directives for the peaceful and dignified conduct of the Kanwar Yatra, describing it as a symbol of faith, discipline, and enthusiasm.
"Districts bordering Uttarakhand, as well as Ghaziabad, Meerut, Bareilly, Ayodhya, Prayagraj, Kashi, Barabanki, and Basti, must exercise special vigilance. Inter-state coordination must be maintained at all times.
"The sound levels of DJs, drums, and music along the yatra route must strictly follow prescribed norms. Loud and jarring sounds, provocative slogans, and route deviations from tradition will not be acceptable under any circumstances. The height of DJs used in tazia, rath, or kanwar processions must also remain within specified limits," he said.
The chief minister firmly stated that cutting down trees, removing slums, or displacing poor people for any procession is "completely unacceptable".
He further emphasised that "display of weapons" and "politicisation of religious symbols" during religious events are disruptive to communal harmony and must be strictly prohibited.
"Entry of prohibited animals along the procession routes should be restricted. Social media should be closely monitored, and drone surveillance should be ensured wherever necessary. Prompt rebuttals and dissemination of accurate information must be carried out to counter fake news and rumours," Adityanath said.
As the Kanwar Yatra sees participation in large numbers, with potential threats of miscreants blending in under disguise, the chief minister directed all districts to stay alert.
At the level of police stations, circles, and outposts, local administration must stay in constant dialogue with kanwar associations and conduct prior assessments of all arrangements, he said.
Adityanath reiterated that while the religious sentiments of devotees are of utmost importance, no mischief-maker should be allowed any opportunity.
Prioritising pilgrims' convenience, Adityanath instructed that non-vegetarian food or similar items should not be sold in the open along the kanwar routes. Cleanliness, sanitation, street lighting, drinking water, toilets, and basic medical facilities must be ensured on the yatra paths, he added.
Damaged electric poles and hanging wires must be immediately repaired, he said. Organisations setting up camps must be verified, and public convenience centres must be operated with their cooperation, he said, according to the statement.
Every Monday during Shravan, large crowds of devotees gather at Shiva temples across the state. The Panchayati Raj and Urban Development Departments have been instructed to ensure cleanliness, drainage, and traffic management in and around temples in villages, towns, and cities in advance. The ban on plastic must also be strictly enforced, Adityanath said.
To curb overcharging of food items along the kanwar routes, prices must be fixed, and each vendor must display their name, as done in previous years, he said.
The chief minister expressed concern over complaints of overpricing of fertilisers as well, and directed district magistrates to conduct surprise inspections and take the strictest action against violators.
Regarding Muharram, the chief minister issued clear instructions that all necessary preparations must be made in advance, learning from incidents of previous years. Events should be conducted peacefully on traditional routes in coordination with peace committees and organising bodies, he said.
The chief minister also addressed the sensitive issue of conspiracies to incite caste-based conflict and stated unequivocally that certain disruptive elements have recently attempted to spread caste hatred in the state.
"Incidents in Kaushambi, Etawah, and Auraiya are proof of this," he said. Issuing a stern warning, he asserted, "Such malicious attempts are against the interests of the state and will not be tolerated under any circumstances. These conspiracies must be exposed immediately, the culprits publicly identified, and the strictest action taken against them." He directed the administration to act swiftly and within the law, without waiting for specific instructions from the government.
On the matter of grievance redressal, Adityanath reviewed applications received via the CM Helpline and the IGRS portal, and noted that the performance of some districts was not satisfactory and warned them to improve their functioning or be prepared to face accountability.
The chief minister also mentioned the 'School Pairing Policy', stating that in the interest of teachers, students, and parents, certain Basic Education Council schools are being paired.
This process must be transparent, inclusive, and aligned with local needs. The DMs must ensure that this is implemented smoothly and effectively, he said.&nbsp;

The CM also ordered the cleaning and sanitation of the Yatra routes, the installation of CCTVs, and provisions for drinking water and street lights.

The administration of  Gautam Buddh Nagar, a district adjacent to Delh,  has asked its departments to ensure that no illegal liquor or meat shops operate on the Kanwar Yatra route while drones will be used to monitor the law and order situation, officials said.
Adequate police personnel will be deployed on the routes, they said.
The administration through multiple inter-department meetings chaired by District Magistrate Suhas L Yathiraj has asked officials to also ensure that there is no waterlogging on the roads and that they are well-lit and free of potholes.
The yatra through Noida and Greater Noida in Gautam Buddh Nagar is scheduled from July 15 to 26 during the auspicious Hindu month of Shravan.
"All officials have been instructed to ensure compliance with the Uttar Pradesh government's guidelines on preparations for the Kanwar Yatra like every year," a senior administration official said.
"The officials have been asked to inspect all routes of the yatra in Noida and Greater Noida and ensure that no unauthorised liquor or meat shops function on the route so that unnecessary crowds can be avoided during the yatra," the official added.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Love Kumar said security personnel will be deployed along the route in adequate number while drones will also be used to monitor the situation to ensure hassle-free yatra.
"Routes are being continuously inspected and RRT (rapid response teams) will be stationed during the procession. Besides all this, the police will take preventive action against identified miscreants who have caused nuisance in the past," Kumar told PTI.
On the closure of illegal liquor and meat shops, a senior police official said inspections are being carried out to ensure such unauthorised facilities do not operate.
"There is no order yet on the closure of authorised liquor shops but that could be done after government order depending on the law and order situation, which is a routine practice during the yatra," the official added.
Gautam Buddh Nagar, adjoining Delhi in western UP, witnesses the Kanwar Yatra through relatively smaller road patches in Noida and Greater Noida. The larger movement takes place through adjoining Ghaziabad towards Uttarakhand.

Observing that the&nbsp;Uttar Pradesh government cannot be allowed to hold the Kanwar Yatra amid the&nbsp;Covid pandemic, the Supreme Court on Friday said that citizens "right to life is paramount".
"All other sentiments whether be religious are subservient to this basic fundamental right," the top court, in a suo motu case relating to holding of the annual Kanwar Yatra.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday took cognisance of the Uttar Pradesh government's decision to allow 'Kanwar Yatra' in the state in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. 
A bench headed by Justice R F Nariman issued a notice to the state government and posted the matter for hearing on Friday. The court said citizens were "perplexed" by the the yatra being allowed at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and medical experts have warned against large gatherings and urged people to maintain social distancing.
The Yogi Adityanath government on Tuesday allowed the yatra from July 25, despite concerns raised in various quarters over the risk posed by such events in triggering a possible third wave of Covid-19. UP officials have been asked to coordinate with neighbouring states to ensure Covid guidelines are followed.
Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand government has cancelled the Kanwar Yatra this year. It is for the second consecutive year that the Kanwar Yatra is not being held due to the pandemic in BJP-ruled Uttarakhand.
The fortnight-long Kanwar Yatra, which begins with the onset of the month of Shravan around July 25, goes on till the first week of August sees crores of 'Kanwariyas' travelling from different states to collect the holy waters of the Ganga.

Despite anxiety mounting about a potential third wave of Covid-19 infections, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath&nbsp;has decided to allow the Kanwar Yatra this year from July 25.&nbsp;
&lsquo;Kanwariyas&rsquo; who are devotees of Lord Shiva collect water from River Ganga at Haridwar to offer at Shiva temples in their areas as part of the yatra.
According to reports, CM&nbsp;Adityanath has directed officials to prepare guidelines for conducting the yatra while ensuring full compliance to Covid-19 protocols.&nbsp;
CM has also said UP officials should should speak to their counterparts in Bihar, as there is significant movement of devotees between two states, and ensure that there are no violations of Covid protocols.
The home department has been asked to formulate a detailed guideline for regulating the yatra this year.&nbsp;
Last year, the Uttar Pradesh government had suspended the Kanwar yatra in view of the pandemic.
The Uttarakhand government has already cancelled the Kanwar yatra and imposed Section 144 on the borders of Haridwar.
