Kanjhawala hit-and-drag case: Delhi Police files 800-page charge sheet 

According to the police, seven men were arrested and upon completion of the investigation, a charge sheet of around 800 pages was prepared with around 117 witnesses.

The Delhi Police on Saturday filed an 800-page charge sheet against seven accused in the Kanjhawala hit-and-drag case in which a 20-year-old woman was killed after being dragged under a car in the early hours of January 1.
Four of the seven accused &mdash; Amit Khanna, Krishan, Mithun and Manoj Mittal &mdash; have been charged with murder.
Metropolitan Magistrate Sanya Dalal has posted the matter for consideration of the final report on April 13.
Deepak Khanna, Amit Khanna, Krishan, Mithun and Manoj Mittal were arrested on January 2.
Two other accused &mdash; Ashutosh Bhardwaj and Ankush &mdash; were earlier given bail by the court. Deepak Khanna&rsquo;s bail plea was rejected by a sessions court.
The other five accused were produced before the court, which extended their judicial custody till April 13.
According to the police, seven men were arrested and upon completion of the investigation, a charge sheet of around 800 pages was prepared with around 117 witnesses.
&ldquo;On the basis of the material and evidences collected during the investigation, to the best of capabilities, sufficient material has come on record to prosecute the accused,&rdquo; the police said.
According to the charge sheet, Amit Khanna, Krishan, Mithun and Manoj Mittal have been booked for murder. Ashutosh and Amit Khanna were also booked under provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
It said all the accused were booked for criminal conspiracy, destruction of evidence, harbouring offender, common intention and false information, with intent to cause public servant to use his lawful power to the injury of another person.

A murder offence may attract death penalty or imprisonment for life and fine. "In the Sultanpuri incident, after collection of physical, oral, forensic and other scientific evidence, the police has added Section 302 IPC in place of section 304 IPC. "Further investigation in the case is in progress," Sagar Preet Hooda, Special Commissioner of Police (Law and order) said.
This move comes a day after the Delhi Police told a sessions court that it will invoke section 302 of the Indian Penal Code in the case.

Anjali Singh (20) was killed in the early hours of the new year day after her scooter was hit by a car, which dragged her for more than 12 kilometres from Sultanpur to Kanjhawala.
Police had arrested Deepak Khanna (26), Amit Khanna (25), Krishan (27), Mithun (26), and Manoj Mittal in the case on January 2.
Later, they zeroed in on Ashutosh, who was arrested four days later. Another accused Ankush had surrendered on Friday and was released on bail the next day.
Anjali's parents and relatives had also staged a protest outside the Sultanpuri police station demanding justice for their daughter.
They had demanded that section 302 should be added to the FIR, alleging that the accused continued driving the car despite knowing that the woman was beneath their car.&nbsp;

The Home Ministry has asked the Delhi Police to file a chargesheet against the culprits at the earliest in the January 1 hit-and-drag case.
Taking cognisance of the report on the case, the MHA has suggested the Delhi Police Commissioner to suspend the police personnel deployed in three PCRs and at two police pickets.
The MHA has also suggested the Delhi Police Commissioner to issue a show cause notice against the investigation officer, considering the lack of investigation.&nbsp;

Later, they zeroed in on Ashutosh and Ankush Khanna and said they were involved in shielding the accused.

Ankush is accused Amit's brother. Amit does not have a driving licence and after he informed Ankush about the accident, the latter allegedly convinced Deepak, who is a Gramin Seva driver, to tell police that he was behind the wheel on the fateful day.
The accused persons causing the death of Anjali had allegedly borrowed the car from Ashutosh.
They said Ashutosh and Ankush were not in the car. Ashutosh also misled police by claiming that Deepak had taken the car from him when it was Amit who had taken it.
There were five men partying in the car. One of them, the friend of the four other men, de-boarded the vehicle before the incident took place. Deepak was at his home entire night when the incident happened.
He was called by one of the accused after the car hit Anjali, following which he brought his uncle's autorickshaw to take the accused to their residences, sources said.
Meanwhile, a Delhi court remanded Ashutosh in police custody for three days.

The prosecution informed the court that the accused were aware of the victim's body being dragged under the wheels.
One CCTV footage obtained from the route allegedly shows two of the accused get down from the car two minutes after the accident, and check under the vehicle, where the victim was trapped, according to a report by NDTV.
The police is also questioning a new witness, who was around 100 metres from the spot of the accident.&nbsp;
The additional public prosecutor, however, did not disclose the identity of the two accused who got down from the car to inspect what was under the wheels.
The investigating officer informed the court that CCTV footages were being obtained, the route taken by the car was being established, and around 20 witnesses had recorded their statements.

The seventh accused in the Kanjhawala accident in which a 20-year-old woman was dragged by a car surrendered before police on Friday evening, a senior officer said.
Police on Friday arrested another man, Ashutosh, under suspicion of shielding the accused.
According to the police, Ankush Khanna, who is a brother of Amit, one of the other six accused in the case, surrendered on Friday at Sultanpuri Police Station.
