Jitendra Kumar says his role in Bhagwat Chapter One: Raakshas is his most challenging yet, portraying a layered college professor opposite Arshad Warsi in a dark crime thriller premiering on ZEE5.

"Panchayat" star Jitendra Kumar says his role of a college professor with secrets in the upcoming crime thriller "Bhagwat Chapter One: Raakshas" is unlike anything he has ever done before and it gave him an opportunity to step out of his comfort zone.
The movie juxtaposes Jitendra's charming college professor Sameer opposite Arshad Warsi's inspector Vishwas Bhagwat, who is investigating the disappearance of many young women. The ZEE5 original movie is directed by Akshay Shere.
Jitendra, 35, who rose to prominence as Jeetu Bhaiya in "Kota Factory" and features as Sachiv ji in popular series "Panchayat" and has done films such as "Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan", "Jaadugar" and "Dry Day", said the film was challenging. "I was very excited to step out of my comfort zone... I found the role quite challenging as I have never done anything like this before. I was uncertain as to how I will pull it off. But with each challenge there was a different level of excitement that I felt," Jitendra told PTI in an interview.
"I really wanted to do a crime-thriller and a character with so many different shades. The dynamic between our two characters (Bhagwat and Sameer) and how their lives intertwine intrigued me." The actor said it was inspiring to work with Warsi, who tried to take everyone along on the sets.
"The way Arshad sir conducts himself on the set is really interesting. He is very chill otherwise but every time he had a scene, he would transition seamlessly. The way he gets into his character smoothly was something I enjoyed observing and our set was very collaborative. We had many discussions over each scene... We always found a midpoint and took in everyone's ideas." Jitendra has done movies and shows but he is most popular for his role in Prime Video series "Panchayat", where he plays an engineering graduate who lands in a village on a government role. The actor said he was initially scared that he will get typecast but that hasn't happened so far.
"It's a different challenge to play those similar characters so differently where you have to be versatile in your performance. I haven't felt like I am being typecast yet, but if the time comes, I will explore different genres and characters like I did with 'Bhagwat'." Since the story is rooted in a real life incident, the actor said he tried to portray the character with honesty and without judging him.
"I had a lot of fun with this story. There was some uncertainty as to whether I would be able to show all these complex shades and layers with conviction or not. But I made it a point to not judge my character and what he is doing. I believe creative people should not be judgemental at all and bring sincerity to each character they play," he said.
"Bhagwat Chapter 1: Raakshas", produced by Jio Studios in association with Baweja Studios and Dog n Bone Pictures, will premiere digitally on October 17 on ZEE5. The film also features Ayesha Kaduskar, Hemant Saini, and Tara-Alisha Berry.

Actor Jitendra Kumar, also known as Jeetu, returns as 'Sachiv Ji' in season 3 of the Prime Video India Original show &lsquo;Panchayat.&rsquo; In an interview with India Today, the actor addressed previous rumours of a fallout with the makers and longtime collaborators, The Viral Fever (TVF), which had led fans to question his return to the show.
&lsquo;There was a lot of panic and I could see that all over social media. The last season ended on Abhishek's transfer and that also spurred the buzz further. There was a misunderstanding, and honestly, main bhi pareshan ho jata tha (I would get troubled) answering the same questions. At one point, I was like aur mat poochon, bandh karo yeh (don't ask about it, end it now),&rsquo; said Jitendra.
&lsquo;Given I have had a long association with TVF, people were worried about what went wrong. I understood it's their love and we just waited for the first trailer to end all speculations,&rsquo; added Jitendra.
At the end of season 2, his character Abhishek, also known as Sachiv Ji, gets a transfer from the village of Phulera, fuelling rumours of him not returning for season 3. Additionally, Jeetu was notably absent from the long-awaited season 2 of TVF &lsquo;Pitchers&rsquo;, which streamed on ZEE5 last year.

Jitendra Kumar began his career with a supporting role in TVF's Permanent Roommates (2014), considered by many to be India's first web series. He gained widespread recognition with TVF Pitchers (2015), where he played a character named Jeetu, sharing his own name. Following this, he appeared in numerous TVF Originals and garnered further attention with Netflix India's Kota Factory (2019) and Prime Video India's Panchayat (2020).
Jitendra made his Bollywood debut in 2019 with the comedy Gone Kesh. He followed it up with a parallel lead role in Hitesh Kevalya's romantic comedy Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan opposite Ayushmann Khurrana. In 2022, he appeared in the Netflix India film Jaadugar.

After days of teasing the viewers, Prime Video revealed the release date for &lsquo;Panchayat&rsquo; Season 3. The Jitendra Kumar-led show is set to premiere on May 28. The comedy web series, which also stars Neena Gupta, Raghubir Yadav, Faisal Malik, Chandan Roy, and Sanvikaa, has been created by The Viral Fever. It is helmed by Deepak Kumar Mishra, and written by Chandan Kumar.

Patna, PTI: Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) Gupteshwar Pandey on Tuesday took voluntary retirement from service, triggering speculations that the outspoken officer would contest the coming state Assembly polls.
Pandey's request seeking voluntary retirement was approved by Governor Phagu Chauhan, a notification issued by the state home department said.
Director General (Homeguards) SK Singhal has been given additional charge of DGP, ADG (Headquarters) Jitendra Kumar told PTI.&nbsp;
Pandey, a 1987 batch IPS officer, was involved in the investigation of actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death by suicide in Mumbai.
He had recently been in the headlines for his stout defence of the Nitish Kumar administration when it was under attack from the Shiv Sena-led government in Maharashtra over Bihar Police's probe into the death of Rajput.&nbsp;
