Predatory pricing is once again at the forefront of a battle in the telecom sector.
Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel are engaging in exploitative pricing practices with their respective limitless 5G plans, according to a complaint made by Vodafone Idea (VI) to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
The struggling telecom company has urged TRAI to take action against its larger competitors, claiming that the two cannot provide 5G for free and for an unlimited period of time as substantial market players (SMP), which would increase user churn at cash-based services. strapped VI according to officials informed of the situation.
Jio and Airtel were contacted by TRAI for comments, and both companies denied VI's claims. They have claimed in their responses that they cannot be criticised for charging predatory rates because 5G has a relatively tiny user base right now because the network rollout is still ongoing, according to officials.
The two telcos further contended that since 5G is provided as part of 4G packs and is priced accordingly, they are not providing anything for free. Since, delivering 1GB of 5G data costs substantially less than it does for 4G.

With this expansion, JIO 5G is now accessible in 406 cities all over India, making it the only telecom operator to have accomplished such a vast network in a brief period.
JIO users in the 406 cities will enjoy the JIO Welcome Offer which offers unlimited 5G data without paying any extra cost. Users who want to enjoy the Welcome Offer just needs to recharge their JIO number with ₹239 or higher pack on their 5G compatible devices. Users can also check 5G coverage in their area on the JIO website.

As all eyes are on the rollout of 5G services in the country, Vodafone Idea is still facing trouble in finalising deals for 5G equipment supplies and tower tenancies with vendors.
According to ET reports, the tower company, Indus tower has called on Vodafone Idea (Vi) to clear its dues or else run the risk of losing access to its towers from November.
Vi's mobile services to its over 255 million subscribers could be seriously disrupted if Indus blocks tower access to the cash-strapped telco.
According to reports, Vi's accumulated dues to tower firms is estimated upwards of ₹10,000 crore, of which it's reckoned to owe well over ₹7,000 crore to Indus and the balance to American Tower Co (ATC).
The loss-making operator's problems regarding dues are delaying its 5G launch plans, thus leaving it vulnerable to further loss subscribers to stronger rivals like Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, say experts.
