Special CBI Court in Mumbai delivered its final verdict in the Jiah Khan suicide case after 10 years. Sooraj Pancholi, son of actors of Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, who had been accused of abetment to suicide, was given a clean chit due to lack of evidence.
After Sooraj Pancholi got a clean chit in the case, Jiah&rsquo;s mother Rabia Khan&rsquo;s lawyer said, &lsquo;We will appeal in higher court after studying the judgement.&rsquo;
Reacting to the verdict, Rabia said, &lsquo;The judgement is not surprising. I anticipated this Our battle is still on. We will appeal.&rsquo; She also added, &lsquo;The CBI never took interest in the case.&rsquo;

A Mumbai court is likely to pronounce its verdict in the Jiah Khan suicide case on April 28. As reported by special judge AS Sayyad had completed hearing the final arguments on the case on April 20 following which the verdict was reserved.

Actor Jiah Khan was found hanging in her home by her mother, Rabia Khan in June 2013. Following her death, her mother accused her boyfriend, actor Sooraj Pancholi and his family of &lsquo;abusing&rsquo; Jiah.
On the basis of a six-page letter, purportedly written by Jiah Khan, Sooraj was booked for abetment of suicide and even arrested. However, he was later released on bail.
Jiah&rsquo;s mother moved to the Bombay High Court following Sooraj Pancholi&rsquo;s bail and sought CBI probe in the matter. The central investigating agency filed a chargesheet in December 2015 in which they charged Pancholi with abetment of suicide under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code.
Sooraj Pancholi opened up about the case
In August 2021, Sooraj Pancholi opened up about the case and mentioned that he and his family suffered a lot since 2013. Speaking to Bombay Times, Sooraj said, &lsquo;I don&rsquo;t know how I survived the last eight years; my family&rsquo;s support has seen me through it all. I have tried forgetting the experiences I have had through these years. My aim is to look ahead and move forward.&rsquo;

The case was probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) which has charged actor Sooraj Pancholi, Jiah Khan's boyfriend, with abetting her suicide. The 25-year-old actress was found hanging at her Mumbai residence on June 3, 2013.
Rabia Khan, in her petition filed in the HC, had sought a fresh probe into the case by an independent and special agency with assistance from the United States's Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
As per Rabia Khan, her daughter was murdered.
Her advocates Shekhar Jagtap and Sairuchita Chowdhary argued that the case was first probed by the Mumbai police and noticing "certain flaws and incorrect approach", Rabia Khan moved the HC and the probe was then transferred to the CBI in July 2014.
However, the central agency, too, committed the same "errors" and hence the case has to be re-investigated.
The court noted the petitioner was weakening her own case by filing such a plea.
Advocate Sandesh Patil, appearing for the CBI, told the court that the premier agency has investigated the case fairly.
The bench dismissed Rabia Khan's plea and said it would pass a detailed order later.
