JD(U) spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad dismisses claims that the party has withdrawn support to the BJP-led government in Manipur, clarifying that the Manipur unit acted independently.&nbsp;

JD(U) national spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad has strongly rejected recent reports suggesting that the party is withdrawing its support from the BJP-led government in Manipur, terming them as "misleading and baseless."&nbsp;
Speaking to ANI, Prasad clarified that the Manipur unit's president acted without consulting the central leadership, which resulted in disciplinary action and his removal from the position.

He stated, "This is misleading and baseless. The party has taken cognisance of this and the president of the Manipur unit has been relieved of his position. We have supported NDA, and our support to the NDA government in Manipur will continue even in future. The Manipur unit did not have any communication with the central leadership, they were not taken into confidence. He (Manipur JD(U) chief) had written the letter on his own. Considering this an act of indiscipline, action has been taken against him and relieved of his position."
Prasad further emphasized, "We are with the NDA and the state unit will continue to serve the people of Manipur towards the development of the state."
Earlier, JD(U)'s Manipur Chief Ksh. Biren Singh had issued a statement suggesting that the party&rsquo;s lone MLA in Manipur would now be treated as an Opposition MLA in the assembly. Singh explained, "In the election to the State Assembly of Manipur held in February/March 2022, six candidates set up by Janata Dal(United) were returned.
After a few months, five MLAs of Janata Dal(United) defected to BJP. Trial under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution of India for the five MLAs is pending before the Speaker's Tribunal."
He added, "After Janata Dal(United) became part of the INDIA bloc, support to the BJP-led government was withdrawn by Janata Dal(United) by informing the office of the Governor, Leader of the House (Chief Minister), and Speaker."

Singh confirmed that, "As such, the seating arrangement of the lone MLA of Janata Dal (United) in Manipur, Md Abdul Nasir, is made in the Opposition Bench in the last session of the Assembly by the Speaker. It is, hereby, further reiterated that Janata Dal(United), Manipur Unit does not support the BJP-led state government in Manipur, and our lone MLA, Md. Abdul Nasir shall be treated as an opposition MLA in the House."

The Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) has officially withdrawn its support to the BJP-led government in Manipur, declaring their lone MLA Md Abdul Nasir as part of the Opposition.&nbsp;

Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)), a member of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), formally withdrew its support for the BJP-led government in Manipur on Wednesday.&nbsp;
In a statement released by JD(U)&rsquo;s Manipur Chief, Ksh. Biren Singh, the party clarified that during the February/March 2022 State Assembly elections, six candidates were elected under JD(U)&rsquo;s banner. However, shortly after, five JD(U) MLAs defected to the BJP.&nbsp;

The trial for these defections under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution of India is still pending before the Speaker's Tribunal.
The JD(U) officially informed the office of the Governor, the Leader of the House (Chief Minister), and the Speaker of the Assembly regarding its decision to withdraw support from the BJP-led government following the party&rsquo;s alliance with the INDIA bloc.&nbsp;
&ldquo;As such, the seating arrangement of the lone MLA of Janata Dal (United) in Manipur, Md Abdul Nasir, is made in the Opposition Bench in the last session of the Assembly by the Speaker. This withdrawal of support follows the earlier move by the National People&rsquo;s Party (NPP), led by Conrad Sangma, in November 2024.&nbsp;
The NPP had pulled out from the BJP-led government in Manipur due to escalating tensions in the state. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma sent a letter to BJP National President JP Nadda, criticizing Chief Minister N. Biren Singh&rsquo;s administration for its failure to resolve the crisis and restore normalcy.
In the 2022 Manipur Assembly elections, JD(U) won six seats, but five of its MLAs later switched allegiance to the BJP. Despite the party&rsquo;s withdrawal, the BJP-led government in Manipur remains secure as it holds 37 seats in the 60-member assembly and enjoys the backing of five MLAs from the Naga People&rsquo;s Front and three independents.

The Rashtriya Lok Samata Party or RLSP, formed by Upendra Kushwaha in 2013, merged with the JD(U) on Sunday. The move comes about nine years after Kushwaha's fall out with JD(U) leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
On Sunday, Nitish said the union of the two parties will make the JD(U) all the more stronger and named Kushwaha the chairman of its parliamentary board. Kushwaha said, Nitish was his elder brother, and the JD(U) is his old home.
In 2014, Kushwaha joined the NDA and the RLSP successfully contested from three seats in the general elections, with Kushwaha emerging victorious from the Karakat seat. However, in the 2015 Bihar polls, the RLSP performed poorly. In 2019, the RLSP contested the general elections with the Grand Alliance but could not win a single seat.
Reports say, Kushwaha&rsquo;s merger with the JD(U) is being seen as a major consolidation bid by Nitish for OBC Luv-Kush (Kurmi-Koeri) votes, with the community accounting for about 10% of Bihar&rsquo;s population.
