Honduras prison riot: over 40 women prisoners found dead after a gang war

At least 41 women prisoners have been killed in violence between gangs at a jail in Honduras. &nbsp; &nbsp; The police said prison authorities in Tamara found dozens of bodies after the violence at the prison on June 20. &nbsp;
Some of the victims had been shot to death, while the bodies of some women were found charred. At least seven female inmates were being treated at a hospital for gunshot and knife wounds.&nbsp; Reports said that a brawl had broken out at the prison between members of rival gangs Barrio 18 and the Mara Salvatrucha.&nbsp; Government authorities suggested that the riot started because of recent attempts by authorities to crack down on illicit activity inside prisons. &nbsp;

The man was arrested by Gopalganj police on January 17, 2020 under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act). He has been in jail for the last three years.

In a bizarre incident an inmate of Bihar's Gopalganj district jail reportedly swallowed a mobile phone during checking out of fear being caught by prison officers, an official said on Monday. Qaishar Ali, the prisoner, swallowed the phone on Saturday during inspection.
The matter, however, came to light on Sunday after Ali developed extreme pain in his stomach.
"The prisoner informed the jail authorities and narrated the sequence of events. He was immediately rushed to Gopalganj district hospital where the x-ray of the inmate revealed the presence of a foreign particle in his abdomen,&rdquo; Manoj Kumar, Gopalganj jail superintendent told PTI on Monday.
Salam Siddiqui, the doctor at the hospital's emergency ward said, &ldquo;The prisoner was admitted in the hospital due to stomach pain. The x-ray of his stomach was taken and the presence of foreign particles was visible during the examination. There is a need to investigate it thoroughly&rdquo;.
A medical board was constituted by the hospital and the man was referred the prisoner to Patna Medical College and Hospital for further treatment.

Bhind Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Singh told PTI that the wall of barrack number 6 caved in around 5.10 am and there were 255 prisoners inside the prison at the time of the incident.

Aerial footage showed the prisoners standing on the roof of Parklea Correctional Centre, some using ropes to climb through the barbed wires.
