YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday accused the N Chandrababu Naidu-led government of splurging exorbitant amounts of money on greenfield capital city Amaravati and turning it into a cash cow.
Addressing a press conference at his residence in Tadepalli, the opposition leader alleged that Naidu is spending nearly Rs 9,000 per sq ft for the construction in Amaravati. He mocked the government asking, if gold and silver are being used to construct the buildings in the upcoming capital city.
"Because Amaravati has to continue like this and there should be indefinite contracts, works should be there indefinitely and they should present bills indefinitely," said Reddy, alleging that Naidu is using Amaravati as a "cash cow" for vested interest.
However, for other government buildings Naidu is barely offering a rate of Rs 2,500 per sq ft., Reddy said.
Though six lakh sq ft of space is available in the existing 'temporary' assembly and secretariat in Amaravati, he pointed out that Naidu is proceeding to build a new assembly, secretariat and other buildings in a space of 53.57 lakh sq ft.
Reddy reasoned that the 12,000 employees working in the secretariat will not drastically rise, questioning the requirement of 53.57 lakh sq ft of space when six lakh sq ft is ably serving their needs.

TDP MLA&nbsp; K Raghurama Krishna Raju has accused the former CM and the senior officials of "plotting" a criminal "conspiracy" against him.

Andhra Pradesh police registered an "attempt to murder" case against former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, two senior IPS officers and two retired officials, following a complaint lodged by a TDP MLA, an official said on Friday.
The complaint was lodged by the ruling party's Undi MLA K Raghurama Krishna Raju.
Besides Reddy, police booked senior IPS officers PV Sunil Kumar and PSR Sitaramanjaneyulu and retired police officer R Vijay Paul and former Guntur Government General Hospital superintendent G Prabhavati, the official said. Vijay Paul and Prabhavati have superannuated.
"Raju sent his police complaint through mail one month ago and after taking legal opinion, I registered a case at 7 pm on Thursday against the former CM and others," the official told PTI. Raju, a former MP, also alleged that he was subjected to "custodial torture," the official added.
Police booked the five accused persons under IPC Sections 120 B, 166, 167, 197, 307, 326, 465 and 506 read with 34. Police invoked the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as the case is three years old.
The case was booked at Nagarampalem police station in Guntur.
TDP leader Raju's 2021 arrest case came to the fore in Andhra Pradesh after he lodged a complaint against Reddy and some officials over it on June 10.
He accused the former CM and the senior officials of "plotting" a criminal "conspiracy" against him.
Raju, 62, alleged in his complaint that senior IPS officers Sunil Kumar and Sitaramanjaneyulu, police officer Vijaya Paul and government doctor Prabhavathi were part of that "conspiracy." He was arrested in May, 2021 in the middle of the Covid-19 second wave.
"A false case was registered against me by the CB-CID of the Andhra Pradesh government. On May 14, 2021, I was arrested without due process, I was bullied, unlawfully physically pulled inside the police vehicle, and forcibly taken to Guntur the same night," Raju alleged in the complaint.
When Raju was arrested, Kumar was heading the CID, Sitaramanjaneyulu the Intelligence wing, Paul was ASP CID and Reddy was the CM.
The MLA said though he had undergone an open heart surgery "some weeks" before his arrest, Raju claimed he was abused. Also, he alleged there were threats to kill him for "criticising the chief minister (Jagan)."
"I was arrested without due process, including the absence of a medical examination or adherence to proper legal procedures...I was kept in the CB-CID office, Guntur from 9:30 pm onwards (May 14, 2021). I was not given my medicine despite having had an open heart bypass surgery," Raju, who was an YSRCP MP from Narasapuram, claimed.
Raju also alleged that when the Magistrate had sent him to Guntur Government General Hospital, the then superintendent of the hospital, Prabhavathi, had colluded with Sunil Kumar to create false medical reports that no injuries were inflicted on his person.
"Due to police brutality, I was shifted from Guntur to Secunderabad Army Hospital by the orders of the Supreme Court and thereafter I was granted bail by the Supreme Court," said Raju. The bail came a week later.
Among other allegations, he demanded that a case be registered against all the accused persons and said in his complaint that "these criminal offences must be addressed promptly and justice be done." For several months preceding his arrest, Raju was accused of abusing the then CM Jagan Mohan Reddy on a daily basis through select media houses from Delhi and Hyderabad.
Reacting to the FIR filed against him, Sunil Kumar wondered how a "new FIR" can be filed in a three-year-old case "rejected" by the Supreme Court.
"I leave it to your wisdom to understand how an FIR can be filed anew in a case that has already been dismissed by the Supreme Court after three years of proceedings," Sunil Kumar said in a social media post.

YSRCP supremo YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday called for paper ballots to replace Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in elections.
Following a humiliating electoral debacle in the recently held Assembly and Lok Sabha polls in Andhra Pradesh, the former chief minister claimed that almost every advanced democracy uses paper ballots.
"In electoral practices across the world in almost every advanced democracy, paper ballots are used, not EVMs," Reddy said in a post on 'X'.
To uphold the true spirit of our (India) democracy, the Andhra Pradesh opposition leader opined that 'we too must move towards the same (postal ballots)'.
"Just as justice should not only be served, but should also appear to have been served, so should democracy not only prevail but must appear to be prevalent undoubtedly," he added.
YSRCP was relegated to just 11 Assembly and four Lok Sabha seats in the recently concluded simultaneous elections in Andhra Pradesh.
The NDA comprising TDP, BJP and Janasena won a landslide victory by securing 164 Assembly seats out of 175. Of the 25 Lok Sabha seats, the alliance got 21 seats.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday said the State capital would be shifted to Visakhapatnam.
Addressing the preparatory meeting for the Global Investors Summit to be held in Visakhapatnam in March, Jagan said he would be shifting his office to the port city in the months to come.
"Here I am to invite you to Visakhapatnam which is going to be our capital in the days to come. I myself would also be shifting over to Visakhapatnam in the months to come," he said.
Amaravati is the present capital of Andhra Pradesh.
In November last year, Jagan Mohan Reddy government repealed the controversial AP Decentralisation and Inclusive Development of All Regions Act, 2020 intended to establish three capitals for the State.
The State government had proposed three capitals, Visakhapatnam (Executive capital), Amaravati (Legislative capital) and Kurnool (Judicial capital).
Jagan further said the State Government is organising the Global Investors Summit in Visakhapatnam on March 3 and 4 and requested the corporate community to take part in the meet and invest in the State.

Sharma said that if the Andhra government had paid only dearness allowance, and not 27% interim relief, then the treasury would have been able to save Rs 10,000 crore over 30 months. “I am telling you that one crore people are drinking ( alcohol) in the state. All of you people vote for BJP, we will offer you cheap liquor at Rs 75. If the revenues are good we will even supply at just Rs 50, (not bad liquor), definitely a good one,” Veerraju said indirectly pointing to high prices of liquor in the state.
The BJP leader was trying to capitalise on the high liquor prices in the state due to state taxes. The government, however, says that the high prices are in line with its policy of reducing liquor consumption among the poor.
Referring to some of the Jagan Mohan Reddy government's Direct Benefit Transfer schemes, the BJP leader said on an average a person consumes liquor for about Rs 12,000 per month and Jagan Reddy is collecting all that amount and giving it back in the name of a scheme.

YSR Congress lawmaker Kanumuri Raghurama Krishnam Raju was arrested in Hyderabad by Andhra Pradesh&rsquo;s Crime Investigation Department (CID) on Friday on charges of sedition, the police said in a statement.
The arrest comes weeks after the MP asked a special CBI special court on April 27 to cancel the bail granted to Jagan Mohan Reddy in a disproportionate assets case.
Raju was arrested from his residence in Hyderabad for allegedly acting in a way detrimental to the prestige of the state government.

Andhra MP held for sedition for criticising CM Jagan Mohan Reddy

YSR Congress lawmaker Kanumuri Raghurama Krishnam Raju was arrested in Hyderabad by Andhra Pradesh&rsquo;s Crime Investigation Department (CID) on Friday on charges of sedition, the police said in a statement.
The arrest comes weeks after the MP asked a special CBI special court on April 27 to cancel the bail granted to Jagan Mohan Reddy in a disproportionate assets case.
Raju was arrested from his residence in Hyderabad for allegedly acting in a way detrimental to the prestige of the state government.
