Two regulatory filings showed that Ma was looking to offload 10 million shares worth $871 million (approx). As per Alibaba's Chief People Officer Jane Jiang Fang, Jack Ma's family office needed funds to invest in agricultural enterprises and charities in China and elsewhere, and made arrangements with a broker earlier this year for a share sale at a price set in August.

&ldquo;Ma&rsquo;s office has issued a statement saying that Ma will continue to hold onto his Alibaba stake. This is a fact and not mere lip service," Jiang said in the note. &ldquo;Alibaba&rsquo;s current price is significantly lower than its real value so he will not sell." The billionaire believes that the value of Alibaba&rsquo;s businesses will increase, she added.

The 59-year-old Ma had previously revealed intentions to sell 10 million shares worth about $870 million on November 21, as per regulatory filings on Thursday. Two companies owned by Ma, JC Properties Ltd. and JSP Investment Ltd., are set to sell 5 million shares each, according to the filings.
Despite relinquishing all his roles in Alibaba in 2020, Ma has been gradually selling shares in recent years, and his stake in the business has now dipped below 5%.

Laying out the firm's previous complex structure, the announcement showed Ma indirectly controlled 53.46 percent of Ant's shares and deemed him the company's "control person".
He will hold just 6.2 percent of the voting rights following the adjustment, based on information in the statement.
"The adjustment is being implemented to further enhance the stability of our corporate structure and sustainability of our long-term development," the Ant statement said.
Ten individuals -- including the founder, management and staff -- will "exercise their voting rights independently", it said.
The adjustment will not change the economic interests of any shareholders.
Ant operates Alipay, the world's largest digital payments platform, which boasts hundreds of millions of monthly users in China and beyond.
