Violent clashes broke out in Arunachal Pradesh's Itanagar on 17 February 2023. Violence occurred during a protest over the case of the alleged paper leak for Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) exams.
Protestors were seen clashing with security personnel. Stones were thrown while security personnel tried to bring the crowd under control with batons.
Police said that the protestors wanted postponement of the swearing-in of the Chairperson and newly-appointed members of the state public service commission.
Prohibitive orders under CrPC Section 144 have been imposed in the Itanagar capital region to keep the situation under control, according to news agency ANI.

Around 700 shops were reduced to ashes in a massive fire that broke out at Naharlagun Daily Market near Itanagar on Tuesday morning, police said.
There was no casualty in the fire that was first spotted around 4 am, they said.
The market, the oldest in the state, is situated near the fire station and Naharlagun police station, around 14 km from Arunachal Pradesh's capital Itanagar.
The fire is suspected to be caused by firecrackers or lamps lit for Diwali celebrations, police said.
Firefighters swung into action immediately but as the shops were made of bamboo and timber with dry items stored in abundance in the market, the blaze spread fast, they claimed.
Panicked shopkeepers struggled to save anything they could as exploding LPG cylinders further added fuel to the fire.
Three fire tenders, one of which was brought in from Itanagar, fought for hours to bring the blaze under control, police said.
The exact damage caused by the fire is being assessed, but it is estimated to be in crores of rupees, they said.
Superintendent of Police (Capital) Jimmy Chiram said the exact cause of the fire would be known after the completion of the investigation by the fire department.
Shopkeepers alleged that after spotting the blaze they rushed to the adjacent fire station but no personnel could be found. Further, when the fire services personnel arrived, the fire engines did not have water.
To refill the engines, the personnel had to travel a long distance, and they could come back with water only around 5 am, by which most of the market was already gutted, the shopkeepers alleged.
"The police also did not act. All of them should be terminated from service for failure to perform their duties," Naharlagun Bazar Welfare Committee president Kipa Nai said.
After speaking to the shopkeepers, Arunachal Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACC&amp;I) president Tarh Nachung demanded that all fire personnel on duty be suspended for negligence.
It was the failure of the government that it did not set up the minimum infrastructure required for fire fighting -- such as water filling points, which should immediately be made available at different locations in the Capital Complex, he said.
"If this is the situation in the heart of the capital, what would be the situation in the districts," he questioned.
Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso told reporters that the market would be rebuilt by the state government in cooperation with ACC&amp;I.

Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu trekked a distance of 24 km for 11 hours to meet people of a remote village. The 41-year old chief minister walked through mountain terrains and forests to reach Luguthang village, about a 100 km from Tawang. The village is located at a height of 14,500 feet above sea level and has a population of 50 people who live in 10 houses. The CM shared the video of his trek through the eye-catching Karpu-La mountain and several natural lakes. Khandu spent two nights at the house of a villager before trekking back, reports said.

Itanagar, PTI: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, currently touring his home constituency Mukto in Tawang district, trekked a distance of 24 km for 11 hours to meet people of a remote village.
The 41-year old chief minister walked through mountain terrains and forests to reach Luguthang village, 97 km from Tawang.
"It was an arduous journey while crossing Karpu-La (16,000 ft) to Luguthang (14,500 ft)," Mr Khandu tweeted after returning to Tawang on Thursday.
The village, located at a height of 14,500 feet above sea level, in Thingbu tehsil of Tawang district has a population of 50 people who live in 10 houses.
"Had a review meeting with Luguthang villagers to ensure that benefits of every flagship programme reaches the last man standing in forward areas," the chief minister tweeted.
The journey to the village, which is inaccessible by road, is a mesmerising one as one has to cross the eye-catching Karpu-La mountain and several natural lakes that fall on the route.
The chief minister, along with Tawang MLA Tsering Tashi, and villagers and monks of Tawang monastery, attended the consecration of Jangchup Stupa the next day.
The stupa has been erected in the name of Khandus father and former chief minister Dorjee Khandu who died in a helicopter crash near Luguthang village while returning from Tawang to Itanagar on April 30, 2011.
"The chief minister spent two nights at the house of a villager before trekking back," sources in Tawang said.
Luguthang is mostly inhabited by Brokpas, a nomadic yak-herding tribe. They spend the summer months around the higher Himalayas in search of grazing grounds for their yaks and come down to lower areas in harsh winter.
