Lecce defender Samuel Umtiti and winger Lameck Banda were subjected to racist chants from the Curva Nord section of Stadio Olimpico which will remain closed for Lazio's game against Empoli on Sunday.
"Lazio fans are not racist and cannot be associated with a few individuals who seriously harm the club's image," the club said.

Of the three women who died of their wounds, one was Nicoletta Golisano, 50, mother of a 10-year-old boy, who was attending the meeting as treasurer.
Meloni revealed on Facebook they were friends and paid tribute to "a protective mother, a sincere and discreet friend, who was also a strong and fragile woman".
The killer had been arrested, she said, adding she hoped that "justice will quickly follow its course".

Japan, UK, Italy to develop next-generation fighter jet

The US Department of Defence said it supported the project in a separate joint statement with Japan's defence ministry.

Japan, Britain and Italy said Friday they will jointly develop a next-generation fighter jet in a project that holds scope for future cooperation with allies including the United States.
The new jet, to be ready by 2035, is expected to merge the nations' current research into cutting-edge air combat technology, from stealth capacity to high-tech sensors.
In a joint statement, the three countries said the "ambitious endeavour" would "accelerate our advanced military capability and technological advantage" at a time when "threats and aggression are increasing" worldwide.

The numbers paled in comparison to the tally of known cases kept by Italy's main survivors' group, Rete L'Abuso, which estimates some 1 million victims in the overwhelmingly Roman Catholic country.

Italy's Catholic bishops provided their first accounting of clergy sexual abuse and revealed on Thursday that more than 600 cases from the country were on file at the Vatican since 2000.
The report of the Italian bishops' conference, which only covered complaints that local Italian church authorities had received over the last two years, did not mention the hundreds of cases.
It identified 89 presumed victims and some 68 people accused.
But responding to a reporter's question during a press conference about the report, Monsignor Giuseppe Baturi revealed that the bishops' conference was researching 613 files held at the Vatican's Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith.
The Vatican in 2001 required dioceses around the world to send all their credible reports of abuse to the dicastery for processing.
The Vatican had felt compelled to act after decades in which bishops and religious superiors moved predator priests around from diocese to diocese rather than punishing them or reporting them to police.
Baturi, the secretary-general of the bishops' conference, noted that some of the 613 cases might have been archived and some might contain multiple victims of a serial predator.
&ldquo;We have to understand how many victims, what their profile is, who are those responsible,&rdquo; he said.

The almost haphazard revelation underscored that the initial report by the bishops' conference was not intended to provide an accurate or historic look at the clergy abuse problem in Italy. The country's bishops never authorized such research despite demands from survivors for a full accounting, which some other Catholic Churches in Europe have published.
Instead, the Italian bishops limited the scope of their report to evaluate the work of &ldquo;listening centers&rdquo; that were set up in dioceses since 2019 to receive complaints from victims.
Organizers said during a news conference Thursday that the report provided a &ldquo;first photograph&rdquo; of the problem and the bishops planned to release annual reports from now on.
The report said 89 people had filed complaints in the past two years and identified 68 abusers. It found most victims were between ages 15-18 when the abuse took place, though 16 were adults whom the church considered &ldquo;vulnerable.&rdquo; Most of the claims involved inappropriate language or behaviour and touching.

The group has identified some 178 accused priests, 165 priests who were convicted by Italian law enforcement and some 218 new cases.
Nevertheless, the numbers reported by the Italian bishops even in these two past years were significant, said Francesco Zanardi, the head of Rete l'Abuso.
&ldquo;If in two years they received 89 complaints, that means the problem is there and it's big,&rdquo; he said in a telephone interview.
Zanardi noted that an unusually high percentage of the accused were lay church workers &ndash; some 34 per cent, compared to the 66 per cent of priests or religious brothers. He noted that lay abusers often find it easier to access potential victims in Italy's vast church-run volunteer programs since background checks are less stringent.
Monsignor Lorenzo Ghizzoni, who is head of the Italian church's national child protection service, said the numbers in the report were significant given the reporting period covered a time when church activities were either shuttered or reduced due to COVID-19.
&ldquo;These are just a few, but they're a lot,&rdquo; especially for a system to receive complaints that had just been started, Ghizzoni said.
From the start, the scope of the Italian report was far more limited than the approach taken by the Catholic hierarchy in many European countries to try to respond to clamoring for accountability about clergy sexual abuse.
When he announced the planned report in May, the head of the Italian bishops' conference, Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, insisted the study's scope and the compressed, six-month time frame for its release would enable researchers to provide a more &ldquo;accurate and accountable&rdquo; tally.
Whether by government mandate, parliamentary investigation or church initiation, such reports in Ireland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Portugal and France identified systematic problems that allowed thousands of children to be abused by Catholic priests.
In France, a panel of independent experts estimated that 330,000 children were sexually abused over 70 years by some 3,000 priests and church personnel, and that the crimes were covered up &ldquo;systematically&rdquo; by the church hierarchy. That report, and a spate of revelations about high-ranking abusers, has sparked a crisis of confidence in the French Catholic Church.
Zanardi alleged the Italian report was clearly an attempt to &ldquo;minimize&rdquo; and cover up the scope of clergy sex abuse in Italy. &ldquo;It's shameful. It's partial and you don't really know what it's for,&rdquo; he said.

The 25-meter (80-foot) ship Rise Above entered Italian waters over the weekend without consent because of storm-swollen seas, after rescuing 95 people in the central Mediterranean. Six were evacuated at sea due to medical emergencies.
"We are relieved that waiting on the high seas is over. The situation on board has become more and more critical in the past few days and hours," Mission Lifeline spokeswoman Hermine Poschmann said. &ldquo;We expect that the Italian authorities give everyone access to a legally compliant asylum procedure and that people do not have to stay on our ship any longer than necessary.&rdquo; Italy has refused to assign migrant rescue ships with a port of safety as it takes a hard line with nongovernmental organizations operating in the central Mediterranean. Instead, it has been instructing them to ports, where authorities allow only vulnerable people to disembark. Italian authorities insist the boats must then return to international waters with those not deemed vulnerable.
The far-right-led government of Premier Giorgia Meloni is insisting that countries whose flag the ships fly take on the migrants, and that the burden shouldn't fall on Italy alone.

Poschmann said that Mission Lifeline has asked Germany to take in more people.
Two other NGO-run boats are docked in Catania, one with 35 people that Italy won't allow to disembark, the other with 214 people. Both ships are refusing to leave, saying that under international law all people rescued at sea are vulnerable and entitled to a safe port.
A fourth ship, the Ocean Viking operated by SOS Mediterannee, remains in international waters off Sicily with 234 rescued people. Its first rescue was 17 days ago.

Italy's new right-wing led government on Friday has adopted a measure formalizing the closure of its ports to rescue ships run by humanitarian groups as four vessels with more than 1,000 migrants continue to push for access to a safe port.
Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi told reporters that it will allow a German migrant rescue ship to arrive in Sicily to evacuate minors and those with medical emergencies, but that the ship must then return to international waters with the rest of the migrants.
Piantedosi said the German-flagged Humanity 1, carrying 179 people, "forced the situation by entering into territorial waters.''But he emphasized that Italy's insists that it is the flag country of each charity-operated ship that must intervene to provide a safe port and not Italy.

Several thousand black-clad fascist sympathizers chanted and sang in praise of Benito Mussolini as they marched to the slain Italian dictator's crypt Sunday, 100 years after Mussolini entered Rome and completed a bloodless coup that gave rise to two decades of fascist rule.
The crowd of some 2,000 to 4,000 marchers, many sporting fascist symbols and singing hymns from Italy's colonial era, was more numerous than in the recent past, as the fascist nostalgics celebrated the centenary of the March on Rome. On Oct 28, 1922, black-shirted fascists entered the Italian capital, launching a putsch that culminated two days later when Italy's king handed Mussolini the mandate to start a new government.
The crowd in Predappio, Mussolini's birth and final resting place in the northern Emilia-Romagna region, also was apparently emboldened by the fact that a party with neo-fascist roots is heading an Italian government for the first time since World War II.

She listed her great-grandfather's accomplishments, citing an infrastructure boom that built schools, hospitals and public buildings, reclaimed malaria-infested swamps for cities, and the extension of a pension system to nongovernment workers. She was joined by her sister Vittoria, who led the crowd in a prayer.
The crowd gave a final shout of &ldquo;Duce, Duce, Duce," Mussolini's honorific as Italy's dictator.
Anti-fascist campaigners held a march in Predappio on Friday, to mark the anniversary of the liberation of the town &mdash; and to prevent the fascists marching on the exact anniversary of the March on Rome.
Inside the cemetery on Sunday, admirers of the Duce lined up to enter his crypt tucked in a back corner, a handful at a time. Each was given a memory card signed by his great-grandaughters with a photo of a smiling Mussolini holding his leather-gloved hand high in a Roman salute. &ldquo;History will prove me right," the card reads.
Italy's failure to fully come to terms with its fascist past has never been more stark than now, as Italy's new Premier Giorgia Meloni seeks to distance her far-right Brothers of Italy part from its neo-fascist roots. This week, she decried fascism's anti-democratic nature and called its racial laws, which sent thousands of Italian Jews to Nazi death camps, &ldquo;a low point.&rdquo; Historians would also add Mussolini's alliance with Nazi Germany and Japan in World War II and his disastrous colonial campaign in Africa to its devastating legacies.
Now in power, Meloni is seeking a moderate course for a new center-right government including Matteo Salvini's League and Silvio Berlusconi's Forza Italia. But her victory gives far-right activists a sense of vindication even if they see themselves even further to the right.
&ldquo;I would have voted for Lucifer if he could beat the left," said organizer Mirko Santarelli, who heads the Ravenna chapter of the Arditi, an organization that began as a World War I veterans group and has evolved to include caretaking Mussolini's memory. &ldquo;I am happy there is a Meloni government, because if there is nothing worse than the Italian left. It is not the government that reflects my ideas, but it is better than nothing.&rdquo; He said he would like to see the new government do away with the laws that prosecute incitement to hatred and violence motivated by race, ethnicity, religion and nationality. It includes use of emblems and symbols &mdash; many of which were present in Sunday's march.
Santarelli said the law punishes &ldquo;the crime of opinion.&rdquo; &ldquo;It is used as castor oil by the left to make us keep quiet. When I am asked my opinion of Mussolini, and it is clear I speak well of him, I risk being denounced," Santarelli said.
Lawyer Francesco Munitillo, a far-right activist who represents the organizers, said Italy's high court established that manifestations are permissible as long as they are commemorative, &ldquo;and don't meet the criteria that risks the reconstitution of the fascist party.&rdquo; Still, he said, magistrates in recent years have opened investigations into similar manifestations in Predappio and elsewhere to make sure they don't violate the law. One such case was closed without charges last week.
To avoid having their message misrepresented, Santarelli asked the rank and file present not to speak to journalists, saying the words of hotheads are often misconstrued. Most complied.
Rachele Massimi travelled with a group four hours from Rome Sunday morning to participate in the event, bringing her 3-year-old who watched the march from a stroller. &ldquo;It's historic,&rdquo; Massimi said.

Giorgia Meloni, whose political party has neo-fascist roots, was sworn in on Saturday as Italy's first far-right premier since the end of World War II.
Meloni, 45, took the oath of office before the Italian president at the presidential palace, becoming also the first woman to be the nation's leader.
Her Brothers of Italy party was the top vote-getter in last month's national election. Meloni announced her Cabinet on Friday evening.
Her coalition allies include the right-wing League of Matteo Salvini and the conservative Forza Italia party headed by former Premier Silvio Berlusconi.
Meloni recited the ritual oath of office, pledging to be faithful to Italy's post-war republic and to act &ldquo;in the exclusive interests of the nation.&rdquo; The pledge was signed by her and counter-signed by President Sergio Mattarella, who, in his role as head of state, serves as guarantor of the Constitution, drafted in the years immediately after the end of war, which saw the demise of fascist dictator Benito Mussolini.
Meloni's 24 ministers followed, similarly swearing in. Five of the ministers are technocrats, not representing any party. Six of them are women.
Meloni will head her first Cabinet meeting on Sunday. Her government replaces that led by Mario Draghi, a former European Central Bank chief, who was appointed by Mattarella in 2021 to lead a pandemic national unity coalition.
Meloni was the sole major party leader to refuse to join the coalition, insisting the nation's voters return to the polls, which they did on September 25.&nbsp;

An Italian court in a bizarre observation ruled that some of the people who lost their lives in the 2009 L'Aquila earthquake were partly to blame for their own deaths.&nbsp;
The court was reportedly hearing a civil suit over compensation for the victim's relatives when it gave the shocking ruling.
The judge while giving the verdict in the case file by relatives of 24 people who died in the quake said that the victims had gone back to bed despite two tremors earlier that night.
The 6.3-magnitude earthquake which struck L'Aquila on April 6 at 3:32 am (local time), reduced its elegant medieval, Renaissance and Baroque squares and buildings to rubble.
The quake reportedly followed months of tremors across Abruzzo region in central Italy.
The earthquake killed 309 people while leaving 1,600 people injured and at least 80,000 homeless.

Th centre-left alliance on the other hand failed to challenge the right dominance in terms of vote. It was a way behind with 26% of the vote till September 25 evening, therefore, paving the way for right majority in the Parliament.
As polls in the run up to Sunday's vote showed her as the likely winner, Meloni, has moderated her far-right message in an apparent attempt to reassure the European Union and other international partners.
The formation of a ruling coalition with the help of right-wing allies of her Brothers of Italy party could take weeks.
If Meloni, 45, succeeds, she would be the first woman to hold the country's premiership. A mandate to try to form a government must be given by Italy's president.

"If we are called to govern this nation we will do it for all Italians. We will do it with the aim of uniting people, of enhancing what unites them rather than what divides them," she told reporters.

But together they were forecast to win around 43 percent, enough to secure a majority in both houses of parliament.
Full results are not due until later Monday but the centre-left Democratic Party, the coalition's main rivals, conceded, saying it was a "sad" day.

But the party leads a coalition set to win a majority in parliament.
Her success represents a seismic change in Italy, a founding member of the European Union and the eurozone's third largest economy -- and for the EU, just weeks after the far-right outperformed in elections in Sweden.
Meloni, who campaigned on a motto of "God, country and family", is expected to become Italy's first female prime minister, although the process of forming a new government could take weeks.
At a time of soaring inflation, a looming energy crisis and the war in Ukraine, the 45-year-old sought to reassure those worried about her lack of experience and radical past.
Meloni said voters had sent a "clear message" of support for her party to lead their right-wing coalition to power.
"If we are called to govern this nation we will do it for all Italians. We will do it with the aim of uniting people, of enhancing what unites them rather than what divides them," she told reporters.

Her coalition allies, Matteo Salvini's far-right League and former premier Silvio Berlusconi's Forza Italia, lagged behind her in the polls.
But together they were forecast to win around 43 percent, enough to secure a majority in both houses of parliament.
Full results are not due until later Monday but the centre-left Democratic Party, the coalition's main rivals, conceded, saying it was a "sad" day.
Turnout fell to a historic low of around 64 percent, about nine points lower than the last elections in 2018.
