Top IT giants like TCS and Infosys are looking to hire specialists in new technologies to future proof their business. As per The Economic Times, TCS and Infosys are rolling out programmes to hire junior and mid-level talent with a focus on specific technology skills.
The report quoted Industry experts and mentioned that the firms are conducting small recruitment drive in specialized areas to get ahead of their peers in terms of hiring good talent. The experts further said that the early starters will have an advantage with access and cost of top-quality talent, especially in areas such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and cloud computing, where there is a huge skill gap currently.
&ldquo;These hiring drives, lasting weeks to months, depend on the volume and urgency of positions. This could signify targeted growth in specific sectors or with clients amid an overall demand decline,&rdquo; Krishna Vij, business head - IT staffing at Teamlease Digital told The Economic Times. &ldquo;Alternatively, certain tech firms are also on the verge of futureproofing, proactively acquiring talent in anticipation of an eventual market upswing or in the process of securing new orders,&rdquo; she added.
<h3>IT companies recruitment drive</h3>
IT companies, though have shunned mass campus recruitment, are planning to enter the job market in anticipation of a growth pickup in the second half of the next fiscal year that starts in April.
Despite this such drives may not necessarily see the massive hiring akin to the campus recruitments that IT companies have done previously.&nbsp;

Prasadh MS, head of workforce research and analytics at staffing company Xpheno told The Economic Times that hiring is inevitable mainly after a drop in the headcount in the last few quarters. He further re-iterated that the companies that are getting into hiring now will have a huge lead when the activity picks up later this year
&ldquo;Enterprises have a strategic and tactical need to reclaim and match previously achieved capacity,&rdquo; Prasadh told The Economic Times.&nbsp;
This recruitment drive also comes at a time when the IT firms are getting stronger with the managements referring to large new deals and renewals. This, experts view as per The Economic Times, will require further manpower given the massive loss of workforce in the past quarters owing to one of the slowest business growth periods for the $250 billion IT sector.
Meanwhile Infosys has planned walk-in recruitment drive in Bengaluru on March 9th while TCS has advertised hiring for people with three to 15 years of experience in enterprise solutions, cybersecurity, AI cloud, IoT &amp; digital engineering, infrastructure services, business process services, TCS interactive IP and wireless networks.
&ldquo;Usually, those with 5-15 years of experience are axed and very senior people with domain expertise are retained. The recruitment drive is to fill in those positions and the companies are now recruiting for the bench so that in one year&rsquo;s time they will start billing customers, although now it will be in smaller batches unlike earlier,&rdquo; IT veteran Ganesh Natarajan, a former CEO of Zensar Technologies told The Economic Times.
The report further mentioned that many global capability centres of MNCs are also recruiting in large numbers.

Work from Office: IT majors Wipro, Capgemini, LTIMindtree have begun nudging their employees to work from office on all or at least 50% of the working days in a week, reported Economic Times. As per the report, this push to return to office is being implemented by IT/BPM and some technology companies across the country through verbal and informal communication channels.
This comes as the industry is facing client demand crunch due to the global macroeconomic crisis which is squeezing tech spending.&nbsp;

<h3>IT Companies' Mandate</h3>
As per Economic Times, several companies in Bengaluru and Pune have also issued similar mandates to their employees. Among them are the Indian units of Sweden-based Ericsson and US-headquartered Fiserv. Both multinationals have asked their employees to work from office (WFO) at least three and five days a week, respectively, starting from October/November, the report further said.
While Ericsson has mandated a 50-50 split, Capgemini's employees in India are required to attend the office thrice a week. As per Economic Times, the firm&rsquo;s senior management has now requested its managers to send &ldquo;feelers&rdquo; on getting their team members back to attending office for all working days.
Capgemini's CEO has also told the publication that the company will be taking into account the personal situations of employees and will not be &ldquo;abrupt&rdquo; in pushing them to return to office.
This move by the IT majors come three years after setting up the hybrid work owing to the covid-19 pandemic.
<h3>TCS Ends WFH&nbsp;</h3>
Earlier, TCS has announced that it is discontinuing hybrid working system and mandated all the employees to come to the office for five days a week, starting from October 1, 2023.&nbsp;
In its FY23 annual report, TCS emphasized the importance of employees returning to the office. The report noted that more than half of the company's workforce was hired after March 2020, and these newer employees benefit significantly from physical interactions with senior colleagues and leaders to assimilate and learn from their behavior and ways of thinking.

In an effort to bring employees back to office, IT companies such as Infosys, TCS, Accenture entering India's tier II and tier III cities.&nbsp;
A recent example of this trend has been Infosys&rsquo; new office in Yelahanka, Karnataka. In an internal communication addressed to employees, the company noted that the new facility will aid the company's hybrid work model. The message read, "We are excited to announce the launch of our new North Gate facility in north Bengaluru to further promote flexibility and encourage you to work in hybrid mode and closer to your homes."
As part of its efforts to accelerate the implementation of its hybrid work strategy, Infosys has also established offices in tier II cities like Visakhapatnam and Coimbatore, aiming to tap into the talent pool present in those regions.
Not just Infosys', IT major Accenture, which traditionally operated in India's metros till now, established offices in Jaipur and Coimbatore a few months ago, enabling access to a wider talent pool and providing employees with greater flexibility in choosing their work location.
Meanwhile, TCS already has offices in tier II cities across India, like Bhubaneswar, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Nagpur, Indore, Varanasi, Gandhinagar, among others. Major IT players have been pushing employees to work from offices. Recently, both Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Infosys, have sent intimation to employees via email to start working from offices. Other Indian IT companies, such as HCL Tech and Wipro, have also been steering employees towards a hybrid working model.
