For now, the war has put a lid over the Economic Corridor project that was announced with such hopes and pomp. This has also cast a shadow over India's ambition to play a bigger role in global trade.
On Monday, Railway stocks including IRCON, Jupiter Wagons, RVNL and IRFC saw a fall of around 5-6% each on fears that the war could impact India's plan of building the IMEC. Shipping stocks also saw a fall as Shipping Corporation fell about 5% on Monday.

<h3>Delay in Middle East Normalisation</h3>
The success of IMEEC depends on the establishment of normalisation ties in the Middle East which is now expected to be delayed.
The US in 2020 brokered the Abraham Accords, which led to the normalisation of relations between Israel and both the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. The US has also been working with Saudi Arabia and Israel to achieve the same feat.
Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu in late September informed the United Nations General Assembly that a historic breakthrough was not far away.&nbsp;
The IMEEC brings great opportunities to Saudi Arabia as it would get Western assistance to develop a rail network and obtain access to Israel's Haifa port through Jordan. The plan was to link Middle Eastern countries by rail and to India through shipping lanes from ports in the region, extending on to Eastern Europe.
The route of the plan was expected to be announced two months after the announcement. However, the rising geopolitical tension may have put a stop to the U.S, Israel and Saudi Arabia's efforts to bring peace.&nbsp;
The Saudi Press Agency has reported that the Crown Prince told Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas the Gulf kingdom continued "to stand by the Palestinian people to achieve their legitimate rights to a decent life, achieve their hopes and aspirations, and achieve just and lasting peace."
Meanwhile, social media posts supporting Palestinians have also emerged from countries like Lebanon, Bahrain, Kuwait, and others.

The firm has also advised its employees to Work From Home and follow all the safety measures put in place by the local government. The software giant further added that they are monitoring the situation and are ready to activate business continuity plans if required.

Tata Consultancy Services also said they are closely monitoring the safety of its employees in Israel.
&ldquo;We are monitoring, and have been in touch with the HR (human resources) officials there. We are helping them with safety measures. There are some employees from India and their families," a TCS executive told Mint.
The IT firms will also be tracking the safety of their Indian employees who are residing in neighbouring countries as the conflict may spill over to other regions in the Middle East. According to reports, 15,000-18,000 Indians, including students, are residing in Israel.

In Washington, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said US officials "vehemently condemn" the attack in Elad.
"This was a horrific attack targeting innocent men and women, and was particularly heinous coming as Israel celebrated its Independence Day," Blinken said in a statement. "We remain in close contact with our Israeli friends and partners and stand firmly with them in the face of this attack." Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, whose government administers autonomous zones in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, condemned the attack.
"The killing of Palestinian and Israeli civilians leads only to more deterioration at a time when all of us try to achieve stability and prevent escalation," the official Wafa news agency quoted him as saying.
The Palestinian militant group Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, praised the attack and linked it to violence at the Jerusalem holy site.
"The storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque can't go unpunished," Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem said. "The heroic operation in Tel Aviv is a practical translation of what the resistance had warned against." The Al-Aqsa Mosque compound is the third holiest site in Islam and is built on a hilltop that is the holiest site for Jews, who refer to it as the Temple Mount. It lies at the emotional heart of the conflict, and Palestinians and Israeli police have clashed there repeatedly in recent weeks.
Early Thursday, Israeli police entered the site to clear away Palestinian protesters, after Jewish visits that had been paused for the Muslim holidays resumed.
As the visits resumed, dozens of Palestinians gathered, chanting "God is greatest." Scuffles broke out when the police went to arrest one of them. Police fired rubber-coated bullets on the sprawling esplanade as some Palestinians sheltered inside the mosque itself. The police could later be seen just inside an entrance to the barricaded mosque.
The police said they responded to dozens of people who were shouting incitement and throwing stones, and that one police officer was lightly injured. The Palestinian Red Crescent emergency service said two Palestinians were taken to a hospital after being struck with batons.
Unlike in previous confrontations, Palestinian witnesses said there was no rock-throwing initially. Some of those who sheltered inside the mosque began throwing stones and other objects when police entered the building. The witnesses spoke on condition of anonymity because of security concerns.
Under informal arrangements known as the status quo, Jews are allowed to visit the site but not pray there. In recent years, they have visited in ever-increasing numbers with police escorts and many have discreetly prayed, angering the Palestinians as well as neighbouring Jordan, which is the custodian of the site. The Palestinians have long feared that Israel plans to eventually take over the site or partition it.
Israel says it is committed to maintaining the status quo, and accuses Hamas of inciting the recent violence.
It has been some of the worst bloodshed in years. At least 18 Israelis have died in five attacks — including a stabbing rampage in southern Israel, two other shootings in the Tel Aviv area and a shooting last weekend in a West Bank settlement. Nearly 30 Palestinians have died in violence — most of whom had carried out attacks or were involved in confrontations with Israeli forces in the West Bank. But an unarmed woman and a lawyer who appears to have been inadvertently shot were also killed.
