IOA President PT Usha on Monday said that the revolting Executive Council members were trying to sideline her by their acts of defiance, including issuing termination letters to an official appointed by her.

Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha on Monday said that the revolting Executive Council members were trying to sideline her by their acts of defiance, including issuing termination letters to an official appointed by her.
On Friday, 9 EC members had pasted a signed notice at the IOA office premises, asking "unauthorised persons" not to enter its headquarters. The notice, which Usha termed as "arbitrary", was directed at two recently appointed officials.
A majority of EC members had earlier claimed that they had signed a suspension order declaring Raghuram Iyer's appointment as IOA CEO in January as null and void. The EC members also claimed that they had "terminated" Ajay Narang from the post of executive assistant to IOA president.
Usha acknowledged the receipt of the termination letter served to Narang by the EC members but rejected it as "absolute nullity".
"It is disheartening to see that we are still not able to work as a team and each of your acts is an attempt to sideline me," Usha said in her response sent to the revolting EC members.
"I am left with no option but to remind you all that the day-to-day administrative functions including hiring and firing of staff is not the job of the Executive Council. As the EC, we should be using our powers and right for much more important aspects of taking the IOA to heights," she said.
"It is directed to the IOA staff to remove any copies of the notice posted within the IOA Bhawan. Further, the IOA staff is instructed to follow guidance and directives from my office via my executive assistant."
The internal feud in the IOA, which came out in public in January, is still continuing even as three months are left for the Paris Olympics to begin.
Usha said the continuation or termination of Narang, who was appointed on June 7, 2023, would only be based on her recommendation and not on the "whims and fancies of anybody else".
"The termination documents are an absolute nullity. The appointment of the executive assistant to the president is not within the jurisdiction of the Executive Council and thus the termination is non est and bad in law.
"I am satisfied with the work done by Captain Ajay Kumar Narang (Retd) and do not find any reason to terminate his services," said the legendary track athlete who is also a sitting Rajya Sabha member.
She requested all the EC members "to not act in excess of the powers and responsibilities granted by the IOA constitution and in direct violation of the provisions therein".
"I yet again implore you to start working as a team for the betterment of the athletes and the Olympic Movement in India," she said.
Just a few days after Iyer was made CEO on January 6, 12 out of 15 EC members alleged that Usha "exerted pressure" on them to pave the way for his appointment, a charge the legendary athlete described as "shameful".
Iyer and Narang, however, had been discharging their official duties since being brought on board by Usha, who asserted that she has full confidence in the newly-appointed CEO and there was no going back on the decision to hire him.
The salary of the CEO, which is Rs 20 lakh per month plus allowances (total CTC of around Rs 3 crore per annum), is learnt to be at the centre of the feud between Usha and a majority of the EC members, who have claimed that the IOA president "unilaterally" decided on the matter.
Replying to the charges, Usha said that the appointment of CEO was discussed at length in the EC meeting (in January) and a majority of the members present "ratified" it.
She said most of the EC members recommended a renegotiation of the remuneration fixed for the CEO citing lack of funding at the IOA and it "was reduced by over 30 per cent of the earlier agreed pay".
Usha had also warned the EC members that the International Olympic Committee may intervene and suspend India if they continue to act defiant.

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Sunday said that it is in active dialogue with the Future Host Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding the country's bid to host the Olympic Games in 2036.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced India's desire to host the 2036 Games during the IOC Session in Mumbai on October 14 last year. But, this is the first time the IOA officially said that it has started a formal dialogue with the Future Host Commission of the IOC.
Though the funding for hosting the Games and building infrastructure will come from the government, it's the IOA (as the concerned National Olympic Committee) which has to officially express the country's interest to host the Olympics and enter into a dialogue with the IOC.
"The IOA is in active dialogue with the Future Host Commission of the IOC regarding hosting the 2030 Youth Olympics and the 2036 Olympic Games in India as per the vision of the Honourable Prime Minister," IOA president PT Usha said in a statement, which was, though, issued on another matter.
Usha was making the statement on the matter of the controversy surrounding the appointment of the IOA Chief Executive Officer.
This was the first time that Usha officially commented on the IOA engaging with the Future Host Commission of the IOC after the Prime Minister's announcement in October last year on India's desire to host the 2036 Olympics.
She had earlier told PTI during the Hangzhou Asian Games in early part of October that India should bid for the 2036 Olympics.
Until recently, cities wanting to host the Olympics had to put together costly proposals and compete with other cities in a bidding process but the system has been overhauled by the IOC following referendum defeats and scandals.
Under the new system, Future Host Commissions will launch informal and confidential exchanges with potential host cities. There will be 'feasibility assessments', which 'highlight opportunities and challenges' to make sure the costs are manageable, and that infrastructure construction plans are in line with environmental and human rights standards.
The Future Host Commissions will then enter into a more 'targeted dialogue' with a specific city. They can recommend that city to the IOC executive board as a 'preferred host'. Then, all the IOC members vote on it.
There is no specific timeline and the candidate cities are in 'continuous dialogue' with the IOC and the Commissions, so that there is no expensive, one-time formal submission.
Australia's Brisbane is the first city to be awarded the Olympic Games (to be held in 2032) under the revamped procedure, with the announcement being made in 2021, a good 11 years before the Games.

Usha had issued an official statement on January 6 about the appointment of Iyer as CEO but 12 out of 15 EC members said that former Rajasthan Royals' chief executive's recruitment "hasn't been ratified" by the apex body.
"... you did not list the appointment of the CEO in the agenda circulated for our previous EC meeting. While introducing the matter into the agenda unilaterally, you tried to exert pressure on us to make a rushed and hasty decision," a letter dated January 14 and signed by 12 members of EC, stated.
"We found the manner in which you conducted the proceedings to inappropraite and not befitting of our institution." The letter was signed by all the EC members except for Usha, herself, Olympic medallist Mary Kom and ace paddler Achanta Sharath Kamal. It must be mentioned that Sharath is an active athlete.
Those who signed included senior vice president Ajay Patel, treasurer Sahadev Yadav, vice-presidents Raj Laxmi Deo and Gagan Narang, and another Olympic medallist wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt.
"We hereby placed on record that the appointment of the CEO was not ratified by the EC. EC members were not given opportunity to peruse the proceedings of the nomination committee and understand the decision making process followed and the criteria used for selecting the candidate." The revolting members also alleged that Usha "unilaterally" decided on the CEO's salary and perks, which would be a whopping Rs 3 crore per annum.
"We also requested you to give us 7-10 days time to review and negotiate the CEO's salary before any decision was to be made. You chose to ignore all our requests, jumped the gun and unilaterally informed the press about the appointment of the CEO and also unilaterally declared what the CEO's salary would be RS 20 lakh per month plus allowances, which brings the total CTC to around Rs 3 crore per annum.
"The communication with the press and the negotiation of compensation was done without any consultation with or decision by the EC." Usha replied to the letter and asserted that the appointment of CEO was discussed at length in the EC meeting and the majority of the members present "ratified" the appointment of Iyer.
"During the Emergency EC meeting held at Olympic Bhavan on 05 Jan 2024, the appointment of CEO was discussed at length under the Agenda Point No 2 (Governance Issues) and the majority of the members present, with the exception of Lt Gen Harpal Singh (Retd), Shri Gagan Narang, and Shri Yogeshwar Dutt, had expressed agreement with the Nomination Committee's choice and ratified the name of Shri Raghuram Iyer as CEO for IOA," she said.
"It is a matter of great shame that, on the day the CEO has taken formal charge, certain members of the Executive Council have raised concerns and objections to these decisions." Usha, a celebrated former athlete and also a Rajya Sabha member, also said that the International Olympic Committe may even contemplate suspension of the IOA.
"The combined decision of the majority was subsequently communicated to the IOC. This process was undertaken with transparency and in accordance with the democratic principles that govern our esteemed organization," she said in her reply.
Usha warned members that this kind of precedence would lead to suspension of the national Olympic body.
"Any attempts to now disrupt the functioning of the office of the CEO for IOA shall have an adverse impact on the credibility of IOA. The IOC board may even contemplate suspension of the IOA for non-implementation of the provisions of the IOA&rsquo;s Constitution......." The members asked Usha to keep the "onboarding of the CEO in abeyance until the EC has had a chance to deliberate, consider and review the matter".
"For the purpose of this decision to be made, we will need to be provided adequate information about the current budgetary and financial condition of IOA, details about the selection process, the candidates considered, and the basis on which the short-listing decision was made.
"We would also like to bring to your attention that upon the public announcement of the CEO, we have received multiple concerning reports regarding the prior employment track record of the short-listed candidate.
"Kindly let us know whether a due diligence and background check was conducted by the IOA and please share of the copy of the same so that we can understand whether these reports have any basis." It must be mentioned that Iyer was Rajasthan Royals CEO when the infamous IPL spot-fixing scandal broke in 2013.
On this, Usha said, "The EC members present at the meeting, with the exception of Mr. Sharath Kamal, had recommended a renegotiation of the remuneration fixed for the CEO citing the reasons of lack of funding at the IOA.
"You would have noticed that the remuneration was reduced by over 30% of the earlier agreed pay." Iyer was appointed IOA CEO, a year after it was due and following repeated reminders from the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The CEO will be an ex-officio member of the Executive Council without voting rights. He is not an elected member but a salaried official.
Iyer had also served as CEO of IPL side Rising Pune Supergiants.

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Friday appointed Indian Premier League side Rajasthan Royals' former official Raghuram Iyer as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), a year after it was due and following repeated reminders from the IOC.
The IOA said Iyer was appointed as its CEO after a "meticulous selection process conducted by the nomination committee".
"After careful consideration and thorough interviews with the shortlisted candidates, the nomination committee unanimously selected Mr Raghuram Iyer for the role of CEO," the IOA said in a statement.
"His wealth of experience and proven track record in sports management and administration makes him an ideal candidate to lead the IOA in its mission to promote and develop Olympic sports in India," it said.
The CEO will be an ex-officio member of the Executive Council without voting rights. He is not an elected member but a salaried official.
Iyer had earlier served as CEO of IPL sides Rajasthan Royals and Rising Pune Supergiants.
As per the new Constitution drafted by a Supreme Court-constituted panel and approved by the IOC, the IOA was to appoint a CEO who would perform the functions of the erstwhile secretary general, within a month after taking charge of the new executive council led by PT Usha on December 10, 2022.
The IOA had received flak from the International Olympic Council (IOC) for not filling up the crucial post for nearly one year.
IOA joint secretary and All India Football Federation (AIFF) president Kalyan Chaubey had been discharging the functions of the CEO.
&ldquo;We believe that Mr Raghuram Iyer brings a unique combination of leadership, strategic vision and a deep understanding of the sports landscape.
His appointment is a significant step towards the continued growth and success of Indian sports on the global stage,&rdquo; Usha said in the statement.
Usha had said in March last year that the IOA had set a criteria for the appointment of CEO but only one applicant had been found worthy of the post. The IOA then called for applications through a re-advertisement.
One of the eligibility criteria for the post of CEO is that the candidate should be a &ldquo;management professional with an experience of no less than 10 years as the CEO of a company/entity with an annual turnover of no less than Rs 25 crore.&rdquo; Article 15.3 of the amended IOA constitution also says that &ldquo;the CEO shall be proposed by a nomination committee comprising the IOA president, chairman of the Athletes&rsquo; Commission and one IOC member from India&rdquo;.
In March last year, while formally acknowledging the results of the IOA elections held on December 10, 2022, the IOC had urged the Usha-led council to appoint the CEO.
Three months later, the IOC had again expressed concern over the IOA's delay in appointing the CEO.
In October last year, Bach had a discussion with Usha on the matter during the IOC Session in Mumbai.

Amid uproar over exemptions, IOA issues fresh statement on wrestling squad for Asian Games

As India's up-and-coming wrestlers took objection to Phogat & Punia's exemption, the IOA issued a statement announcing the wrestling squad would be assessed once more before being sent to China. 

The panel said that the Asiad wrestling squad will be assessed for a final time before the players' departure for China for 'maximise the chances of sending the most competitive team'.&nbsp;

Amid uproar over Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat's direct entry into the wrestling squad for Asian Games, the Indian Olympic Association's (IOA) ad-hoc panel issued a fresh statement on Wednesday regarding the matter.&nbsp; The panel said 'To maximize the chances of sending the most competitive wrestling team to the Asian Games 2022, the final assessment of the wrestling team will be made prior to departure of the team for the competition.' A day after Phogat and Punia were exempted from trials, up-and-coming wrestlers Antim Panghal and Sujeet Kalkal objected to the decision and also moved the Delhi High Court asking the move to be stayed.&nbsp; The wrestlers' joint petition demanded fair trails without granting any exemption to any grappler and the whole process should be videographed. The matter has been listed for hearing on July 20. Vinesh (53kg) and Bajrang Punia (65kg) were given direct entries for the Asian Games by the Indian Olympic Association's ad-hoc committee on Tuesday while other wrestlers will have to book their places in the Indian squad through selection trials on July 22 and 23.

One of the wrestlers had accused Singh of touching her inappropriately on the pretext of checking her breathing pattern.

Oversight Committee report: 'touched my stomach!': Brij Bhushan on 'inappropriately touching wrestlers'

Singh, in his response to the Oversight Committee, denied the allegations levelled against him by the women wrestlers and gave an explanation in one of the cases where wrestler accused him of touching her inappropriately.&nbsp;

The Indian Express has reported that the former Wrestling Federation of India chief, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, was questioned by the government-appointed Oversight Committee in February. The MC Mary Kom-led panel prepared a 24-page-long transcript of the 66-year-old BJP MP's response on the sexual harassment, molestation and criminal intimidation accusations levelled by the country's top wrestlers. The Delhi Police has also included the saffron lawmaker's deposition in the chargesheet. One of the wrestlers had accused Singh of touching her inappropriately on the pretext of checking her breathing pattern. The newspaper reported that in his response to the 6-member panel, he called the allegation baseless and went on to say that he touched his own stomach. He said, "So we said that her breathing pattern is reverse. Madam, I have been a victim of this. For around 20 years, I could not sleep properly. An incident had taken place and my son had committed suicide and I found refuge in Yoga. I was told that since my breathing pattern is reverse I am unable to sleep."&nbsp; He further told the panel that since the wrestler and the coach asked him the meaning of reverse breathing, he demonstrated it to them and said: "I placed my hand on my stomach and showed them that when we breathe in, the stomach should expand and contract when we breathe out. Everyone checked their breathing at that moment, when the complainant came I told her to join yoga as well." Singh was also asked about why the women and men were practising separately and in his reply, the Kaiserganj MP said that the parents of women grapplers wanted it and in his experience men and women should anyway pratice separately or 'it will impact their training'.&nbsp; When asked about the absence of an internal complaint committee in the wrestling federation that he has headed for over 10 years, the 5-time BJP MP said, "If any such rule is laid down saying that women should be a part of the committee and if we would have known about it, we would have done it definitely." Pertinently, the law which was implented in 2013 dictates that women must be part of the complaint panels.&nbsp;

OCA grants IOA time for sending wrestlers' names for Asian Games

Extending the deadline by one week, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) granted the IOA time till July 22 for sending Indian wrestlers' entries to the Asian Games organisers

The OCA has, otherwise, set July 15 as the deadline for all nations to send athletes' entries by name for the Games, set to begin in the Chinese city of Hangzhou on September 23.

Extending the deadline by one week, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) on Saturday granted the IOA time till July 22 for sending Indian wrestlers' entries to the Asian Games organisers even as the apex sports body of the country had sought time till August 5.
The OCA has, otherwise, set July 15 as the deadline for all nations to send athletes' entries by name for the Games, set to begin in the Chinese city of Hangzhou on September 23.
The one-week extension was granted by the OCA under "exceptional circumstances" after the Indian Olympic Association top brass, including President PT Usha, Senior Vice President Ajay Patel and Joint Secretary Kalyan Chaubey attended the General Assembly of the OCA in Bangkok.
"The IOA officials tried their best but the OCA gave a week's extension and that too they (OCA) said was being granted under exceptional circumstances. So, this is the final and we have to send names of our wrestlers by July 22," a source close to IOA ad-hoc committee told PTI.
"They (OCA) do not want to do something exceptional for India only. So, further extension is not possible, this (July 22) is the final," the source added.
Usha had written to the OCA on Thursday to extend the deadline so that it could provide the six protesting wrestlers, including Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik, enough time to prepare for the Asian Games and World Championship trails.
Before, Usha's fresh request, the IOA had asked OCA to allow it to hold trials by August 10.
A huge controversy had erupted when IOA ad-hoc panel exempted the six protesting wrestlers from initial Asian Games trials.
The six wrestlers were conveyed that they will have to compete against the winners of the trials in a one-bout competition to qualify for the Games, a decision which was denounced by other wrestlers, their coaches and parents.
It remains to be seen if IOA sticks to the two-stage trial and doles out the favour to six protesting wrestlers, including Sangeeta Phogat, the wife of Bajrang Punia, Satyawart Kadian, the husband of Sakshi Malik, and Jitender Kinha, or asks all contenders to compete in a single trial.
"The two coaches in the ad-hoc panel, Gian Singh and Ashok Garg, are acting like agents of the six protesting wrestlers. They have advised the panel that it must hold two-stage trials and if winners of the initial trials refuse to compete against the six wrestlers, then their names should be removed from the list," said a referee, who attended Thursday's meeting of the panel.
"Everyone protested this suggestion. Why should these wrestlers be given any favour. It has to be a fair trial. If IOA will discriminate, then the parents, and the coaches of the wrestlers will hit the roads and protest against the discrimination.
"You must find out, whose instructions, these two coaches follow. Sometimes they say, it's someone from higher-up who is dictating messages to the ad-hoc panel," said the referee, who did not wish to be named.

IOA ad-hoc panel pushes back decision on wrestling trials

The IOA ad-hoc panel members met on Tuesday but could not finalise a date to conduct wrestling trials for the Asian Games and World Championship as the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) was still sitting on its request for July 15 deadline extension.

Six wrestlers, including Olympic medallists Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik and Asian Games gold medallist Vinesh Phogat, had requested the sports ministry to grant them additional time to prepare for Asian Games trials.

The IOA ad-hoc panel members met on Tuesday but could not finalise a date to conduct wrestling trials for the Asian Games and World Championship as the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) was still sitting on its request for July 15 deadline extension.
The IOA is supposed to give names of all participating Indian athletes to the Asian Games organisers by July 15 and it had requested them to extend the deadline to August 10 so that it could provide the protesting wrestlers enough time to be ready.
Six wrestlers, including Olympic medallists Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik and Asian Games gold medallist Vinesh Phogat, among others, had requested the sports ministry to grant them additional time to prepare for Asian Games trials.
They had contended that they are not in good physical shape to appear in trials due to their 38-day-long protest against outgoing Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
The ad-hoc panel, on its part, had exempted them from Asian Games and World Championships trials and made it a one-bout affair, a move that invited criticism from all quarters.
"Wait for a day or two. We are hoping it (OCA reply for extension) should come in a day or two. Though we have not got any indication about the extension, we are hopeful of getting positive news by Thursday," Bajwa told PTI.
Wrestling coach Gian Singh, who was added to the ad-hoc three-member ad-hoc panel later, is hoping that OCA will eventually extend the deadline.
"It's not yet confirmed but I sense it will happen. There was a meeting today but no decision was taken. Now another meeting will take place on July 6. It means trials cannot be held on such short notice (before July 15). Mr Bajwa is not saying it openly. He is saying it will happen but he is not confirming it," added Singh, a Dhyan Chand awardee.
Singh, though, said he was certain the extension will come soon.
"I am confident that it (extension) will happen because if trials are held after July 6, there will be logistical problems. Are you not going to give time to wrestlers to prepare (travel plan)?" he said.
Meanwhile, indicating that things were far from ideal in the ad-hoc panel, Singh said Bajwa wants to take all the decisions by himself, giving a feeling that the previous WFI setup was still in place.
"Bajwa doesn't talk much with us. We just come out of compulsion. I come (for meetings) because I don't want the wrestlers to suffer," said Singh.
He urged Bajwa to interact with other ad-hoc panel members and inform them about the developments. The other day (previous meeting on Friday), I said we don't discuss anything. He said, 'we do meet'. Sharing pleasantries doesn't mean meeting or discussing issues.
"We sat even today, but didn't take any decision." The coach lamented that the purpose of serving the wrestlers was being lost by not discussing about trials and competitions.
"We are not talking about trials. He's saying once the letter comes (from OCA) and we get clarity on dates (extension), only then we can proceed. It is confirmed that he is taking advice from the WFI officials who controlled the sport earlier," alleged Singh.

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) ad-hoc panel rescheduled the Wrestling Federation of India elections to July 11 after five disaffiliated state bodies, seeking voting rights for the polls, presented their cases in a hearing.
The ad-hoc panel was approached by disaffiliated state bodies from Maharashtra, Haryana, Telangana, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh, claiming that their dismissal was not appropriate.
The panel had called these units for a hearing on Wednesday.
Retired High Court judge Mahesh Mittal Kumar who is the Returning Officer for the polls heard their pleas.
The ad-hoc panel had earlier announced that WFI elections will be held on July 6.
"The state units presented their cases while the representatives of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) provided the papers related to their affiliation cancellations. The panel needs time to decide and prepare order, so polls have been pushed by five days to July 11," a source privy to the developments told PTI.
"The representatives of rival factions sat across and presented their cases. Outgoing secretary general VN Prasood put before the panel all the relevant papers," the source added. The WFI had disbanded these state bodies over a period time. Haryana and Maharashtra were dismissed at its AGM in June 2022.
According to sources, the disbanded Haryana unit was represented by R K Hooda, who was accompanied with a lawyer while the affiliated unit was fronted by President Rohtash Singh.
Maharashtra's rival faction was led by Balasaheb Landge and his son Lalit Landge while current secretary Yogesh Dodke represented the affiliated body.
The NCP chief Sharad Pawar-led Maharashtra body had approached the High Court last year after its dismissal and got a favourable judgement.
"The case of Telangana was bizarre. In the hearing, it came to light that there are 33 districts in the state but the disaffiliated body had invited only nine units for elections.
"The Returning Officer was appointed on September 27 but he issued the election schedule on September 26, a day before his appointment. How is that possible? All these issues came before Justice MM Kumar," the source explained.
Rajasthan's rival faction, led by 86-year-old IK Dutta claimed to be the original body on the basis of recognition granted by state's Sports Council.
Umaid Singh, the current President, presented the case of the elected body.
"The case of Himachal Pradesh rival unit was weakest and it appears that the ad-hoc panel has not found any merit in their case," the source said.
In the wake of rescheduled elections, the dates of nominations, scrutiny and withdrawal of nomination is also likely to change

The IOA's ad-hoc committee has called for WFI's Special General Meeting on July 4, when the elections will also be conducted.

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has confirmed its plan to hold the impending elections of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) on July 4.
To oversee the proceedings and ensure fair polls, former Jammu &amp; Kashmir High Court Chief Justice Mahesh Mittal Kumar has been appointed as the returning officer.
In its letter to Justice Mahesh Mittal Kumar, the Indian Olympic Association wrote, "IOA has to take steps forward to conduct elections of the WFI Executive Committee and we are pleased to appoint you as a returning officer to conduct the elections of the WFI. You may consider appointing one assistant returning officer and other staff to assist in conducting the elections."
While the SGM and elections date, for now, has been set for July 4, sources suggest that Justice Mittal Kumar has the authority to determine whether to hold the polls on that date or postpone them.
On April 27, the Indian Olympic Association had established an ad-hoc committee, consisting of three members, to oversee the daily operations of the Wrestling Federation as directed by the Sports Ministry.
The protesting wrestlers have been demanding fair polls to choose the successor to BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who has been accused of sexual harassment.

PT Usha had earlier said that the wrestlers should have shown some discipline and that they had tarnished the country's image by hitting the streets, a comment that didn't go down too well with the protesting wrestlers.

Facing criticism for being insensitive towards the protesting wrestlers, IOA President PT Usha met the grapplers at the protest site and assured them of her support.
Former sprinter Usha had come down heavily on the wrestlers for resuming their protest instead of approaching the IOA earlier.
She had said that the wrestlers should have shown some discipline and that they had tarnished the country's image by hitting the streets, a comment that didn't go down too well with the protesting wrestlers.
Usha left without speaking to the media but Bajrang Punia said she has assured them of help.
Bajrang revealed, "Initially when she said that, we felt very bad but then she said that her comments were misinterpreted. She said that she is first an athlete and then an administrator."

The meeting between the Indian officials (IOA) and their counterparts at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) went well on Tuesday as a resolution on amendment of IOA constitution in order to hold its elections before December could be achieved.

The Indian Olympic Association are set to resolve their election issues in time after the meeting with IOC on Tuesday.

Indian officials (IOA) and their counterparts at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) met in Lausanne, Switzerland on Tuesday. The meeting went all, with a resolution on the amendment of IOA's constitution expected in the coming days in a bid to hold the elections in December.
A source close to the development told PTI that it was a constructive and fruitful meeting.
The IOC called for a joint meeting earlier in September while sending a final warning to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to hold elections by December or face a ban.
Shooter Abhinav Bindra, India's first individual Olympic gold medallist, also attended the meeting and presented his views.
The Supreme Court had also appointed former apex court judge Justice L Nageswara Rao for amending the constitution of IOA and preparing the electoral college. A bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud asked Justice Rao to prepare a roadmap for amending the constitution and to hold elections by December 15.

The Delhi HC's directive came after it said that the IOA was in 'persistent recalcitrance' to comply with the national Sports Code, adding it became imperative that the daily affairs of the apex body to be handled by the CoA.

In three separate handwritten notes, Batra officially tendered his resignations from the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), International Olympic Committee (IOC), and International Hockey Federation (FIH). In his letter to the world hockey's executive board, Batra cited personal reasons for relinquishing his post at FIH.
Batra's position as IOA president ceased after Delhi HC's verdict given he contested the election at IOA on the basis of his 'life member' post in Hockey India. Meanwhile, his membership in the International Olympic body was linked to the IOA presidency. 
However, his resignation from FIH came as a major surprise to many given in May Batra stated that he would not contest upcoming IOA elections and shift his focus to managing world hockey.
