Schools in India are likely to see a 14% drop in students attending in-person classes due to concerns sparked by 'Omicron', the new variant of coronavirus, according to a nationwide survey.
The findings of the survey which was&nbsp;conducted by online platform LocalCircles indicate that the number of parents not sending their children to school are likely to rise.
The survey, which received 15,875 responses from parents residing in 308 districts of India, finds that schools in the country are likely to see a 14 per cent drop in students attending in-person classes, the online platform said.&nbsp;
According to the survey findings, 58% of parents will be sending their children for in-person classes till this week.
The remaining 32% are parents mostly with younger children and for about 10% of parents, schools that their children go to have not resumed in-person classes yet, it said.
Furthermore, of the 58% of parents sending children to school, 14% will stop doing so because of the Omicron threat.
According to the survey, once the first case is reported in India, another 5% of parents are likely to stop sending children to school. Once multiple cases are reported another 5% are likely to do so leaving only 34 per cent of parents still sending children to school.&nbsp;
The survey also found that another 10% of parents will take the call of stopping in-person school for their children only when Omicron case is detected in their district and once several cases are detected in their district, almost all parents are likely to stop sending children.&nbsp;

It mentioned that doctors in South Africa, where the 'Omiron' variant was first reported, have found a higher number of Covid cases of the new variant in the population aged under 25 years.
The World Health Organisation has designated the new SARS-Cov-2 variant as a 'variant of concern'.
According to the survey findings, 58% of parents will be sending their children for in-person classes till this week.

Pakistan formally informed India to use its territory to transportation of 50,000 metric tonnes of wheat and life-saving drugs to Afghanistan.
Calling it a goodwill gesture for their Afghan &ldquo;brothers&rdquo;, Pakistan said this will be done on an &ldquo;exceptional basis&rdquo; only for &ldquo;humanitarian purposes&rdquo;.
Currently, Pakistan only allows Afghanistan to export goods to India. No other two-way trade through the border crossing is allowed.
Last month, India had announced that it would send 50,000 metric tonnes of wheat to Afghanistan as humanitarian assistance. It had requested Pakistan to allow the food grains to be transported via the Wagah border.
Afghanistan&rsquo;s Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi had also requested Prime Minister Khan to allow India to transport wheat via Pakistan.
However, following a period of cold relationship between New Delhi and Islamabad over the Kashmir issue, Pakistan had blocked India&rsquo;s efforts to provide wheat to the Afghan people.

Pakistan on Wednesday said it has formally informed India about its decision to allow the transportation of an Indian humanitarian shipment of 50,000 metric tonnes of wheat and life saving drugs to neighbouring Afghanistan through its territory on an "exceptional basis for humanitarian purposes".
Prime Minister Imran Khan announced on Monday that his government will allow India to send humanitarian shipment of wheat to Afghanistan through its territory after finalisation of the transit modalities.
"The decision of the government of Pakistan to this effect was formally conveyed to the Charge d&rsquo; Affaires of India at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," the Foreign Office (FO) said in a statement here.
It said as a goodwill gesture towards the brotherly Afghan people, Pakistan decided to allow the transportation of 50,000 metric tonnes of wheat and life-saving medicines from India.
Currently, Pakistan only allows Afghanistan to export goods to India but doesn&rsquo;t allow any other two-way trade through the border crossing.
The FO said that wheat and medicines to Afghanistan would be allowed to enter through &ldquo;Wagah Border on an exceptional basis for humanitarian purposes&rdquo;.
Last month, India announced 50,000 metric tonnes of wheat for Afghanistan as humanitarian assistance and requested Pakistan to ship the food grain via the Wagah border.
Afghanistan&rsquo;s Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi had also requested Prime Minister Khan to allow India to transport wheat via Pakistan, suggesting that the Taliban government was willing to accept the humanitarian assistance from India.
India has contributed to the humanitarian requirements of the Afghan people. This included providing more than 1 million metric tonnes of wheat to Afghanistan over the past decade.
Last year too India assisted Afghanistan with 75,000 metric tonnes of wheat, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had said at the United Nations High-Level Meeting on the Humanitarian situation in Afghanistan in September.
However, Pakistan had blocked India's efforts to provide wheat to the Afghan people, amidst the chill in relations between New Delhi and Islamabad over the Kashmir issue.
Prime Minister Khan announced his decision to allow India to send the humanitarian shipment of wheat to Afghanistan through Pakistan&rsquo;s territory while chairing the first Apex Committee meeting of the newly established Afghanistan Inter-ministerial Coordination Cell (AICC) in Islamabad Monday.
He also took the opportunity to remind the international community of the collective responsibility to support Afghanistan to avoid a humanitarian crisis. PTI&nbsp;

The Civil aviation Ministry&nbsp;Wednesday said that normal&nbsp;international&nbsp;flight operations are expected&nbsp;soon.&nbsp; The flight operations&nbsp;were&nbsp;suspended since March last year owing to&nbsp;the&nbsp;coronavirus&nbsp;pandemic.&nbsp;&nbsp; The suspension was extended till November 30, except for the&nbsp;dedicated cargo flights and commercial flights that fall under air-bubble arrangements with the destination countries.&nbsp; A top official of the ministry said that international flight services are expected to be&nbsp;normalised&nbsp;&ldquo;very soon&rdquo; and &ldquo;by the end of this year.&rdquo;&nbsp; India has entered into an air bubble pact with over 31 countries.&nbsp;

International passenger flight services are expected to be normalised "very soon" and possibly by the end of this year, Civil Aviation Secretary Rajiv Bansal said on Wednesday.
Scheduled international passenger flights to and from India remain suspended since March 2020 amid the coronavirus pandemic. The suspension has been extended till November 30.

Currently, India has air bubble arrangements with more than 25 countries for operating international flights.
Under an air bubble arrangement between two countries, international passenger flights can be operated by their respective carriers into each other's territories subject to certain conditions.
Last week, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said the government was evaluating the process for normalising international operations and asserted that it wants to return to normalcy while keeping in mind the coronavirus pandemic situation in certain parts of the world.
"I am all for regaining our space in the civil aviation arena in the world and making a hub in India and for more wide body aircraft. We will get there but bear with me and trust me, I am on your side. We will work together but in a safe environment," he had said. PTI
