A general compartment of the Shalimar&ndash;Sambalpur Mahima Gosain Express derailed near Sambalpur railway station on Thursday, but there was no report of any injury, an official statement said.
The incident took place between the Sambalpur city station &ndash;Sambalpur junction, shortly after the train departed from Sambalpur city at 9:18 am at a very slow speed, the East Coast Railway said in a statement.
"No loss of life or property in this incident reported," the railway statement said.
The guard of the train said that a major accident was avoided as the speed of the loco was very slow.
Railway officials and local police have reached the site and shifted the passengers to another coach.
The East Coast Railway statement said that the rear trolley of a general coach next to the guard van of 20831 Shalimar-Sambalpur Express derailed near Sambalpur City Station at a very slow speed.
"Train already left for Sambalpur with all passengers. No one injured," it said.
Railway officials including the DRM have reached the site and overseeing early restoration of traffic.

Indian Railways revised its seat reservation chart for better passenger planning, with charts ready 9 hours before for early departures and 8 hours for others.

The railways will prepare seat reservation charts at 9 pm for trains starting journeys between 5 am and 2 pm the next day, while for the rest, the list will be prepared eight hours in advance.
Since 2015, the first reservation charts have been prepared at least four hours before the scheduled departure of the train after the Railway Ministry, for the first time, framed norms in this matter. According to the ministry, the latest change has been made for passenger convenience.
"For the trains with departure between 0500 hours and 1400 hours, the first reservation chart will be prepared preferably by 21:00 of the previous day," the Railway Board directed all zones in a July 2 circular.
For the trains with departure between 14:00 and 23:59 and 00:00 and 5:00, the first reservation chart will be prepared preferably eight hours in advance." The circular instructed the zones to issue necessary instructions to all concerned accordingly, but did not mention any definite date of its implementation, nor did it mention any change in the preparation of the second reservation chart.
"Once the chart is ready eight hours before the train's departure, if seats/berths still remain vacant, passengers can book these under current booking facilities. The second chart is prepared 30 minutes to five minutes before the train's departure, and this is mainly for passengers opting for tickets under the current booking," a railway official said.
"Prior to 2015, there was no fixed time schedule for chart preparation, and zones were following varying norms. The Railway Board decided to standardise it to facilitate passengers to plan their journey well in time," an official said.
Asked the reason for increasing the time gap between chart preparation and the train's departure, officials said that although there was no feedback from the passengers to enhance the time gap, it was felt by the ministry to provide more time to passengers to plan their journey.
The Railway Board had also run a pilot project in the Bikaner Rail Division for preparing a reservation chart 24 hours in advance, and based on that experience, an eight-hour gap was finalised.
"If you know eight hours before whether your ticket is confirmed or not, it will remove uncertainty and help you plan your travel properly,&rdquo; officials said, adding that once a ticket is confirmed, passengers will lose a substantial chunk of the ticket amount as a penalty in case of cancellation.
According to the cancellation policy, if a confirmed ticket is cancelled between 48 and 12 hours before departure, passengers will get back 25 per cent of the ticket amount.
"Seats or berths falling vacant due to cancellation will be filled up through the current booking system," an official said.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw launched on Tuesday the RailOne mobile application, which can help passengers get easy access to multiple services such as ticket booking, train and PNR enquiry, journey planning, rail help services and meal booking.
Vaishnaw inaugurated the app, available on both Android Play Store and iOS App Store platforms, at the 40th Foundation Day celebrations of the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS).
"RailOne App is a one-stop solution for all passenger needs. Through this app, passengers get easy access to the following services: Ticketing -- reserved, unreserved, platform tickets; train and PNR enquiry; journey planning; rail help services; meal booking in train," a press note from the Railway Ministry said.
"Additionally, facilities for enquiry related to freight are also available," it said.
Highlighting the basic objective of the app, the ministry said that it will provide a better experience to the users, realised through a simple and clear user interface.
"It not only houses all the services in one place but also provides integrated connectivity between services, giving the user a holistic package of Indian Railways services," the ministry said.
A special feature of this app is single sign-on, which eliminates the need for users to remember multiple passwords.
"After downloading the RailOne app, one can log in using the existing user ID of RailConnect or UTSonMobile app. This eliminates the need for users to have separate apps for different services, thus saving device storage," the press note said.
It added, "R-Wallet (Railway e-wallet) facility has also been added to this app. Easy login facilities like numeric mPIN and biometric login have also been provided. " There is a provision for new users to register by providing minimal information, which makes the registration process easy and fast. Users who just want to make inquiries can also log in through guest login with their mobile number and OTP, it said.

The railway ministry issued an official circular on Monday, increasing the fares of the non-air-conditioned class in mail and express trains by 1 paisa and all air-conditioned classes by 2 paise per kilometre from July 1.
Ministry officials had on June 24 hinted at the proposed fare revision.
However, the official circular with the fare table according to trains and class categories was released on Monday.
The fares of suburban trains and monthly season tickets have been left unchanged in the interest of daily commuters.
The ordinary second-class fare has not been increased for up to 500 km and for distances beyond that, there is an increase in the ticket prices by half a paisa per km.
The passengers of ordinary sleeper class and first class will also have to pay half a paisa more per km more from July 1.
"The fare revision also applies to premier and special train services, such as Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Tejas, Humsafar, Amrit Bharat, Mahamana, Gatimaan, Antyodaya, Jan Shatabdi, Yuva Express, AC Vistadome coaches, Anubhuti coaches and ordinary non-suburban services, in accordance with the revised class-wise fare structure," the ministry said in a press note.
"Revised fares will apply to tickets booked on or after 01.07.2025. Tickets issued before this date will remain valid at the existing fare without any fare adjustment. PRS, UTS and manual ticketing systems are being updated accordingly," it added.
According to the ministry, there is no change in ancillary charges. For instance, the reservation fees, superfast surcharges and other charges have remained unchanged.
Similarly, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) will continue to be charged in accordance with the applicable rules and the fare-rounding principles will remain as per the existing norms.

The Ministry of Railways has decided to prepare reservation charts for long-distance trains eight hours in advance, instead of the current four hours, to help passengers travelling from remote locations plan their journeys better.
The decision was taken during a recent review meeting chaired by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, a statement issued by the ministry said.
Under Vaishnaw's guidance, officials are working to prepare the reservation chart eight hours before the train's departure instead of the current four hours, it said.
"It will benefit passengers travelling from remote locations or suburbs of major cities for catching long-distance trains. It will also provide more time to make alternative arrangements in case the wait list is not confirmed," the ministry said.
"The new upgraded Passenger Reservation System (PRS) will allow over 1.5 lakh ticket bookings per minute. This will be an increase of roughly five times from 32,000 tickets per minute in the current PRS," it added.
The ministry said the new PRS also has a multilingual and user-friendly booking and enquiry interface.
In the new PRS, users will be able to submit their choice of seat and see the fare calendar. It also has integrated facilities for Divyangjan, students and patients, officials said.
"Indian Railways will allow only authenticated users to book Tatkal tickets on the IRCTC website and its mobile app beginning 1st July, 2025," the ministry said.
It emphasised that OTP-based authentication will be done for Tatkal bookings from the end of July.
The minister instructed officials to broaden the authentication mechanism for Tatkal bookings.
"The authentication should be done using Aadhaar or any other verifiable government ID available in the user's DigiLocker account," the statement said.
According to the ministry, these measures reflect the Railways' continuous efforts to modernise its systems and make them more citizen-friendly.

A nearly century-old building that was originally constructed as a prime recreational centre in the famed railway town of Khagaul in Patna district has been significantly demolished to make way for an elevated road project.
Set up as a 'railway institute' by the erstwhile East Indian Railway (EIR) near the landmark Danapur Station on the Delhi-Howrah line, and known for hosting a range of theatrical plays and fancy social gatherings till a few decades ago, it has now slipped into the pages of history.
Demolition teams on Thursday razed a very large portion of the red-colored building&mdash;N. C. Ghosh Institute -- as a bulldozer's claw tore down the structure that served as a landmark for close to a century.
Ironically, the demolition comes months after the centenary celebrations of the Indian Railway's Danapur Division -- the building's owner -- were held at a railway stadium nearby.
The iconic building housing the headquarters of the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), the centrepiece of the railway town, sits near the site of the demolition.
By Thursday evening, the two-storey building was reduced practically to a shadow of itself as its once-famed ballroom which hosted lavish Christmas parties in the British era and in the early decades after the Independence, and its middle structure, were pulverised to dust, exposing its old metal garters that held its roof till two days ago.
The building of N C Ghosh Institute, said to have been renamed after independence, had been "marked" for demolition several months ago. It was to make way for an elevated road that will come up between Danapur and Bihta, another old town in the Patna district, people familiar with the matter earlier said.
Near the Danapur Railway Station, another over a century-old railway institute (renamed V N Sharma Institute post independence), a red-coloured single-storey structure in Khagaul, is also coming in the road project alignment and will eventually make way for it, they had said.
Many old-timers and local residents who have grown up in the town lamented the fall of a heritage landmark and urged authorities to also sensitively factor in heritage preservation in the overall development plan, as the railway town is dotted with many British-era buildings, including the railway station.
Some of the other old structures are the official residence of the DRM - 'Rail Sadan', old railway school and hospital, and a few beautiful churches, besides humble railway colonies.
Ahead of the centenary celebrations of the Danapur (earlier Dinapore) Division -- set up in 1925 -- an in-house research team attempted to dig into the provenance of the two institutes in Khagaul and find archival references, but in vain, sources said.
Though the exact year of construction of the building that housed the old institute (N C Ghosh Institute) is not known yet, and attempts earlier to find any civil markers on the building came to nought, heritage experts have pegged it as a century-old structure.
Also, while no archival evidence has been found yet, the old institute is believed to have been renamed later after Rai Bahadur N C Ghosh, who in the 1930s held the office of Divisional Superintendent (later Divisional Railway Manager).
A succession board in the office of the DRM mentions that Ghosh held the top post in the division in 1934.
The institute building, shorn of its past glory, had begun to be used as a community hall in the last several years.
Indian Railways' historic Danapur Division manages some of the lines and stations originally set up nearly 160 years ago, and completed an eventful journey of 100 years on January 1 this year.
The division held a grand celebration on January 31 at the old Jagjivan Stadium, where it also hosted a projection mapping show and an exhibition showcasing its rich history through archival documents, photographs, and railway artifacts.
The projection mapping was done on a replica of the iconic DRM Building.
Danapur Division was established on January 1, 1925. Its office is located in a majestic building erected in 1929.
The first divisional superintendent of Danapur was C Eyers, who took charge on January 1, 1925. The post was redesignated as divisional railway manager (DRM) from the 1980s onwards, according to information displayed on the succession board.
After independence, various railway systems operating in India were reorganised into one centralised Indian Railways with a few region-specific zones for its management.
The Danapur division was put under the Kolkata-based Eastern Railway (ER) established in 1952. From 2002 onwards, it came under East Central Railway (ECR), carved out of ER, with headquarters at Hajipur in north Bihar.

The train, after starting from Sri Vaishno Devi Katra at 9:20 pm, will halt at several other stations en route such as Udhampur, Jammu, Pathankot, Jalandhar, Ambala, Kurukshetra and Panipat before terminating at the New Delhi Railway Station at 9:30 am on Thursday.
"This train will have seven general, eight sleeper and three AC coaches," Upadhyay said.
He added, "If the number of passengers exceeds this train's capacity, we have a backup plan to run more such special trains at the earliest."

One video captures a passenger explaining that the train departed Jhansi at around 8 pm on the previous day. Upon reaching Harpalpur, the train came under attack.

Harpalpur police station in-charge Pushpak Sharma confirmed that stones were thrown at the train around 2 am when it arrived at the station.

According to officials, all passengers were safely evacuated from the train. Railway staff and engineers rushed to the site and are actively working to repair the derailed train.
Railway staff worked and the route was cleared for other trains, authorities are investigating whether the incident was due to a technical fault or sabotage.
The Villupuram Railway Police have begun an in-depth inquiry into the matter.
The MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) train, which departed from Villupuram at 5:25 am, derailed while navigating a curve. The loco pilot acted quickly to bring the train to a stop. MEMU trains are designed for short-distance travel, typically covering around 38 kilometres.

The ministry also highlighted a recent video shared by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on X.
"The video shows a nearly full-to-brim glass of water adjacent to a mobile on a plain surface inside a Vande Bharat sleeper train. The water level remaining static can be seen in the video as the moving train achieves near constant peak speed of 180 km per hour exhibiting the element of comfort in the high-speed rail travel," the ministry said.
"The post came after 3 days of successful trials, which concluded on 2nd January, in which a Vande Bharat sleeper train in its loaded condition touched the peak speed," it added.
According to the ministry, on January 2, during a 30-km run between Kota and Laban in Bundi district of Rajasthan, the train reached a peak speed of 180 km per hour.

"A day earlier, i.e. on the first day of 2025, in a 40 km long trial run between Rohal Khurd to Kota, Vande Bharat sleeper train touched the peak of 180 km per hour, the press note said.
"On the same day, peaks of 170 km/hr &amp; 160km/hr were achieved on Kota-Nagda &amp; Rohal Khurd-Chau Mahla sections. These trials will continue for the month of January under the supervision of RDSO, Lucknow," it added.
Once these trials are over, the train will be evaluated by the Railway Safety Commissioner at the maximum speed and only after passing the final stage, it will be officially certified and handed over to Indian Railways for induction and regular services.
The ministry stated that Vande Bharat sleeper trains are designed with features like automatic doors, ultra-comfortable berths, onboard WiFi and an aircraft-like design.
"With these successful trials, rail commuters can hope for a world-class travel experience in long-distance travel like Kashmir to Kanyakumari, Delhi to Mumbai, Howrah to Chennai and many other routes also," the ministry said.

"A youth shattered the glass of the entry door, and others broke the iron grill of a window to gain access," an official source said.
The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. and was followed by another video surfacing from Mankapur railway station later that night. The footage shows an RPF constable helping an elderly woman board the overcrowded train, highlighting the chaos passengers faced.
Chandra Mohan Mishra, Senior Divisional Security Commissioner of Northeastern Railway, confirmed that authorities have CCTV footage of the vandalism and are working to identify the perpetrators. "Our teams are trying to track down those involved," he said.
Despite the severity of the incident, no arrests have been made so far.
The Antyodaya Express, which runs between Chhapra and Mumbai, has been a lifeline for many passengers travelling long distances, but the incident underscores the challenges posed by overcrowded trains.

However, all bookings made up to October 31 under the previous ARP of 120 days will remain intact. Cancellations of bookings made beyond the 60-day ARP will be permitted,&rdquo; the order stated.

An Indian Railways engineer was asked to report to Delhi for a new posting 3 days before his scheduled retirement.

"Sheer madness," responded a senior engineer to the Railway Board when it ordered his transfer from Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh to Delhi three days before his retirement.
The chief communication engineer from the Bilaspur division of South East Central Railway (SECR) has written to the Railway Board terming his transfer to the Northern Railway (NR) zone three days before his retirement an act of harassment.
According to the transfer order, KP Arya is supposed to join the NR on a higher administrative grade post on November 28, 2023, while his retirement is due on November 30.
"This order seems well in order at the surface, but when seen in the complete perspective of my imminent superannuation within a week on 30th Nov 2023, the madness shines brightly," Arya said in a letter addressed to the Secretary, Railway Board.
He added, "Because this is nothing but sheer madness only to transfer one employee, who has served the IR (Indian Railway) organisation his whole life, in the week of his superannuation so that his superannuation settlement gets disrupted and he gets harassed in the last days in the organisation." Arya told PTI that the SECR zone already had a vacant HAG post, still, the Railway Board decided to transfer him to the NR zone on a similar vacant post.
"I will work only for three days in NR headquarters, New Delhi and retire from the Indian Railways. The Railways will pay me about Rs 3 lakh just as transfer money which is a complete waste of public money," Arya told PTI.
Though this is a promotional transfer, Arya will not get any additional monetary benefit. "My promotion was due about six months ago but it was kept pending. However, as per the government norms, I started getting monetary benefits for that post from the day my promotion was due. So, this promotional transfer is only to harass me." The engineer in his letter alleged, "In the series of harassment being meted out to me, a professionally very very competent, honest and upright officer by a cabal of officials of dubious character &hellip; I found it my duty to expose the concerned Railway Board officials as I have always done."
