Police Commemoration Day 2021:&nbsp;As per the data collected by the National Police Memorial, from Independence till 31 August 2019, around 35,134 police officers have sacrificed their lives in the service of the country.
Observed on 21st October each year, Police Commemoration Day aims at honouring the brave police officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. The significance of October 21 stems from the incident of October 21 1959, wherein&nbsp;ten police officers were ambushed and killed by the Chinese Army in Hot Springs in Ladakh.&nbsp;
Prime Minister Narendra Modi&nbsp;expressed his gratitude and acknowledged the "outstanding efforts by the police forces in preserving law and order, and assisting others in times of need."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with Indian Police Service (IPS) probationers through a video conference during the &lsquo;Dikshant Parade Event&rsquo; on Friday. During the interaction he said the officers should be proud of their uniform and never lose its respect. He complimented the force for their good work during the pandemic, while asking them to always stay alert and prepared. Acknowledging the high degree of stress, he added that it is important for officers to and spoke of the importance of keep speaking with your near and dear ones. He also expressed hope of meeting them &lsquo;at some point&rsquo;.
