Ukrainian singer Uma Shanti and one more person have been booked for allegedly disrespecting the Indian flag at an event in Pune.
The singer, who is the front woman of the musical band Shanti People, was holding the Indian flag during her performance at a restaurant cum bar in the Mundhwa area of the city on the eve of Independence Day and while waving it she suddenly flung it to the audience, a police official said.
'She and event organiser Kartik More have been booked under the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act and the Maharashtra Police Act,' he said.
Another police officer said the singer and the event organiser have been issued a notice, asking them to join the probe into the incident.
A video from Uma Sethi's live performance in Pune is going viral on the internet.
The Ukrainian band - Shanti People - which was on India tour, had already performed in Bengaluru and Bhopal . The performance on August 14 was band's second in the city of Pune after one in October 2022.

The Indian flag underwent several changes before it was adopted in its present form. 
From having red, green, and white bands, and a spinning wheel to having saffron, white and green bands and the Ashok Chakra,
here's a look at the journey of the tricolour with a history of several decades preceding independence. 





The first design of the flag proposed in 1921 consisted of two red, green bands to symbolise the two major communities - Hindus and Muslims, with a white band representing peace and other communities and a spinning wheel symbolising the country&rsquo;s progress. &nbsp;

When we think of the flag of India, the colours saffron, white, green, and blue come to our mind. But did you know, that the first design of the tricolour proposed in 1921 consisted of two red and green bands to symbolise the two major communities of the country - Hindus and Muslims, with a white band representing peace as well as the rest of the communities and a spinning wheel symbolising the country&rsquo;s progress. &nbsp;
The design, largely attributed to freedom fighter Pingali Venkayya, went through several changes and it was in 1931 that the Congress Committee met in Karachi and adopted the tricolour as our national flag. But red was replaced with saffron and the order of the colours was shuffled. &nbsp;
The flag was to be free of religious interpretation. Hence in its present form, the saffron on top symbolises &ldquo;strength and courage&rdquo;, white in the middle represents &ldquo;peace and truth&rdquo; and green at the bottom stands for &ldquo;fertility, growth, and auspiciousness of the land&rdquo;. The Ashok Chakra with 24 spokes replaced the spinning wheel or charkha to symbolise &ldquo;life in movement and death in stagnation&rdquo;.&nbsp;

Finally, it was on July 22, 1947 that the members of the Constituent Assembly of India met in the Constitution Hall in Delhi, and officially adopted the national flag for free India.&nbsp;
It was proposed that &ldquo;the National Flag of India shall be horizontal tricolour of deep saffron (kesari), white and dark green in equal proportion.&rdquo; The white band was to have a wheel in navy blue, which appears on the abacus of the Sarnath Lion Capital of Ashoka.&nbsp;
And the final design of the Indian National Flag was hoisted by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on August 16, 1947, at Red Fort, with a history of several decades preceding independence.&nbsp;

Narsinghanand was arrested on January 15 after he called for the genocide of Muslims at a 'Dharam Sansad' or religious conclave at Haridwar.

Yati Narsinghanand, a controversial Hindu seer who propagates Hindutva, has come under police scanner after he called upon Hindus to boycott Centre's &ldquo;Har Ghar Tiranga&rdquo; campaign launched to mark the 75th Independence Day.
In a video that went viral on social media, the hate speech accused is seen claiming that the campaign would end up benefitting a Muslim-owned company in West Bengal.
After the video was circulated widely, Superintendent of Police (Rural) Iraj Raja said they are looking into the matter and would take appropriate legal action accordingly under relevant sections of law.
In the video, Yati is heard saying that to manufacture flags on a mass scale, the government has given contract to a West bengal-based company that is owned by a Muslim named Salauddin, and added that Hindus are the &ldquo;biggest hypocrites in the world.&rdquo; "When these people came in power they awarded government tenders to Muslims. The money which Hindus will pay to buy tricolour would be pocketed by a Muslim and that will be donated to 'Jihadis,'' he said.

&ldquo;This is one big conspiracy against Hindus. If you [Hindus] want to stay alive, then stop giving your money to Muslims in the name of this campaign," he added.
The video was released earlier this month but it came to light only on Friday.
In July, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the &ldquo;Har Ghar Tiranga&rdquo; campaign encouraging citizens to display the tricolour at their homes from August 13 to 15.
Narsinghanand was arrested on January 15 after he called for the genocide of Muslims at a 'Dharam Sansad' or religious conclave at Haridwar and got bail in the case on February 7.
However, on April 17, he delivered another inflammatory speech in Himachal Pradesh where he asked Hindus to have more children to make sure India does not become an Islamic country.

75 Years of Independence: A patriotic feeling and euphoria overcomes Indians every time our National Flag is hoisted. It is not only a symbol of pride and mark of a free country but is also recognised as something to live and to die for.&nbsp;
Saffron at the top, white in the middle with the navy blue chakra (wheel) and green at the bottom- this is how we know the tricolour today.
Little do we know that the Indian National Flag has sailed through vicissitudes of time and several political and national&nbsp;developments.&nbsp;
Let's take a look at how its changed through time to become the tricolour we now know:
The first Flag was hoisted on August 7th, 1906 in the Parsee Bagan Square in Calcutta (now Kolkata). Believed to have been designed by freedom activists Sachindra&nbsp;Prasad Bose and Hemchandra Kanungo, the flag had horizontal stripes of red, yellow and green, with Vande Mataram written in the middle. The red stripe had symbols of the sun and a crescent moon while the green stripe had eight half-open lotuses.&nbsp;
The second Flag was very similar to the first flag but the top band had seven stars denoting the Saptarishi. This flag was hoisted in&nbsp;Paris by Madame Cama and exiled revolutionaries in 1907.&nbsp;
The third Flag was hoisted in 1917 by Dr Annie Besant and Lokmanya Tilak during the Home rule movement. The flag constituted of&nbsp;five red and four green horizontal stripes with seven stars in Saptarishi formation.&nbsp;
The fourth Flag was adopted in 1921 and comprised of two colours- red and green- representing the Hindu and Muslim communities.&nbsp;Mahatama Gandhi added the white stripe representing the rest of the communities and the spinning wheel as a mark of the nation's progress.&nbsp;
The fifth Flag was initially the battle ensign of the Indian National Army. In 1931, a resolution was passed for the adoption of the tricolour as&nbsp;the National Flag. The flag featured stripes of saffron, white and green with Mahatama Gandhi's spinning wheel at the center.&nbsp;
The sixth flag was similar to the one designed in 1931, except the Dharma Charkha of Emperor Ashoka replaced the spinning wheel. On July 22, 1947, it was adopted as the Free India National Flag. This variation of the flag is how we know our National Flag today.&nbsp;

The Navy on Saturday said the Tricolour will not be hoisted at Sao&nbsp;Jacinto&nbsp;Island, South Goa&nbsp;after&nbsp;the islanders strongly objected to it as they did not trust the central and state authorities. Earlier on Saturday morning, Goa&nbsp;CM Pramod&nbsp;Sawant&nbsp;took to Twitter to condemn the behavior of the residents. He said that such anti-India activity will be dealt with an iron fist and went on to request the Navy to unfurl the national flag as per plan.&nbsp;Calling it an unfortunate and shameful incident, CM said that his government will not tolerate such behavior.&nbsp;However, the residents do not oppose the hoisting of the flag, and the villagers will hoist the flag themselves.The anxiety among the villagers is because of the recent Coastal Zone Management Plan of the government which, they fear is against the interest of the local people.&nbsp;As per the defense ministry's plan, the Navy was supposed to unfurl the national&nbsp;flag to commemorate 75 years of Indian independence across the nation from Aug 13 to 15.&nbsp;
