Delhi's air quality plunged into the "severe" category on Friday morning. The Air Quality Index was recorded at an alarming level of 442 in the Alipur area, as per the Delhi Pollution Control Committee data. The AQI was 356 at the ITO as per the Central Pollution Control Board data, which is "severe". Early morning visuals from India Gate and Rajpath showed a thick blanket of haze engulfing the Capital. Thousands of farm fire in Punjab and Haryana have severely deteriorated Delhi's air quality.

PM condemns tractor burning at India Gate over farm bills

A day after Punjab Youth Congress workers set a tractor on fire near India Gate in the heart of Delhi during protests against the farm bills, PM Modi on Tuesday said, those opposing farm laws are insulting farmers. He also added, some people are opposing the bills as another source of earning black money has been closed for them.
PM said that the Opposition had been saying for years that they will implement MSP but they never did, adding that the govt did it as per the recommendation of the Swaminathan Commission.&nbsp;
The passage of the farm bills have triggered widespread agitations in several states. As many as six people have been arrested in connection with the tractor-burning incident and two cars have been seized by the Delhi Police.
While BJP has condemned the incident, Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh defended it saying, if someone has a tractor, they can do anything with it, and it shouldn't bother anyone.

Calling it the 'draconian' laws, CM Amarinder Singh slammed the Centre's farm bills and called them&nbsp;anti-national. Pointing out how the bread and butter of the farmers has been snatched away, the Punjab CM said it made it easy for organisations like ISI to put guns and grenades in the hands of these people who are furious. He accused the central government of snatching the rights of states. Captain went on to defend the actions of the Youth Congress for burning a tractor in front of the India Gate and asked why should it bother anyone if i burnt my own tractor. The Chief Minister went on to emphasise the need for everyone to take the stand with the farmers and fight the central government together.

News agency ANI reported that the protesters belonged to Punjab Youth Congress. Reports said that about 20 persons gathered at India Gate early on Monday morning. They had brought an old tractor in a lorry. The protesters then&nbsp;set the tractor on fire and raised pro-Congress slogans.
