Mickey Arthur, the former director of the Pakistani squad, discussed the problems encountered during the ODI World Cup match between India and Pakistan in Ahmedabad, commending the team's perseverance in the face of adversity.

Mickey Arthur, Pakistan&rsquo;s former team director, admitted that the ODI World Cup match against India at Ahmedabad was one of the toughest moments during his stint, taking the side through a hostile environment.
Arthur moved on after Pakistan failed to reach the semifinals of the showpiece event last year, while former all-rounder Mohammed Hafeez replaced him in the role.
"It was extremely tough not having any Pakistan support. The one thing that really drives the Pakistan team is the incredible support they receive at grounds and hotels.
Here we never had that, and that was quite tough in a World Cup, particularly for the players,&rdquo; Arthur was quoted as saying by the &lsquo;Wisden.&rsquo; &ldquo;As you can imagine it was a tough, hostile environment in Ahmedabad. But we were expecting this, and to their credit, our players never moaned or complained once.
They cracked on and tried their best nevertheless, it ultimately does play a role in motivation when you can&rsquo;t see or hear that support base around you,&rdquo; he added.
Pakistan&rsquo;s World Cup campaign was as usual marked by high-level off-field turbulence, including news about dressing room discord and leaked WhatsApp conversations of then skipper Babar Azam.
However, Arthur said all those outside commotions never really affected the team.
&ldquo;The outside noise with Pakistan is incredible, you just have to check your Twitter feed to see so many fires that are ignited out there, that have absolutely no truth attached to them,&rdquo; he said.
&ldquo;You end up &ndash; and I found this out the first time &ndash; you&rsquo;re just constantly extinguishing those fires and chasing your tail. What we knew within our team was our game plan, and the defined roles that the players had, and we cracked on with it.
There were unequivocally no massive disagreements with the players,&rdquo; Arthur added.
Arthur, who guided Pakistan to 2017 Champions Trophy title, defended his decision to work with the Pakistan team as director while holding on to his job with English county Derbyshire.
The South African said he found the remarks about him being an online coach by former Pakistan players to be unbelievably ignorant.
&ldquo;Anybody who knows me will also know that I will not commit 100 per cent if I can&rsquo;t do it. With Pakistan I was never an &lsquo;online coach&rsquo; as I put together the coaching staff, I was in constant contact with them every single day and knew exactly what was going on within the team.&rdquo; Arthur also made it clear he only accepted the job second time with Pakistan cricket because of his great relationship with former PCB Chairman Najam Sethi who hired him in April last year.
&ldquo;I trust Najam Sethi implicitly. We have a very good relationship, and I went in to try and help him because I owe him a lot. He&rsquo;s the one who gave me my opportunity to return to international cricket after I had been sacked by Australia.
He and I built up a good relationship. One of the reasons I returned was to specifically work with Najam again,&rdquo; he detailed.
Arthur also advised the PCB to have a system where players start trusting the structure and believing in the selection process and play for the team.
&ldquo;If it&rsquo;s constant change and instability, players go into self-protection mode, and they end up playing for themselves, just thinking about the next tour.
It&rsquo;s frustrating to witness that because players aren&rsquo;t given a proper chance, there&rsquo;s no honest communication and they know things are always going to change,&rdquo; he said.

He first added 110 for the second wicket with opener Shazaib Khan (63 off 88 balls) and another 125 in just 19.1 overs with Saad Baig, who smashed unbeaten 68 off just 51 balls with eight boundaries and a maximum.
Skipper Saharan used as many as seven bowlers but they didn't measure with only off-spinner Murugan Abhishek picking up the two wickets.
Musheer had a forgettable outing as he was clobbered for 32 runs in four overs.
India will be playing its final group league match on Tuesday against Nepal and need to win it in order to qualify for the semi-final while Pakistan with two wins from two games would have to lose by a huge margin to Afghanistan in order to qualify.
It shouldn't be a problem for India colts as Nepal aren't the toughest team to beat, having already lost both their encounters.

Accuweather's prediction for September 10th, the original date scheduled for the Super 4 game between the arch-rivals, states some sun, then turning cloudy with a couple of thunderstorms, especially late in the day.&nbsp;
It predicts a 90% probability of precipitation, 54% chance of thunderstorms with 75% cloud cover. A maximum of 3 hours of rain may happen on the day.&nbsp;
On September 11, however, the portal shows an increase in rain chances. The probability of precipitation stands at 99% and that of thunderstorms at 59%. Accuweather shows that 6 hours of maximum rain can happen on the day.&nbsp;

Pakistan's marquee October 15 clash against arch-rivals India in Ahmedabad might be huge from perspective of fans on both sides of the border but it is certainly not the "be all and end all" from cricketing point of view, reckons Team Director and head coach Mickey Arthur.
Arthur understands the hype surrounding the clash but for him, it will be like any other game where one would gain or lose two points.
"I don't think Pakistan and India is the be all of the World Cup," Arthur told a Pakistani YouTube channel 'Cricket Baaz'.
"From a fan's perspective, from the viewpoint of the emotions and relations between the two countries, one can understand the interest it generates and emotions that go with it. But from a cricket point of view I think it will be about doing well against all teams if you want to win the World Cup," the South African added.
Arthur was intent on playing down the pressure quotient and in fact has already started the mental games stating that pressure would be on India.
"The expectations from the Indian team will be very high in the World Cup. They are a good side and how well they perform will depend on their ability to absorb the pressure that will come from playing at home," he said.
Arthur said he was also looking forward to the game but to see how Pakistan can cope with the pressure.
The Australian coach also insisted that the Pakistan team management had not pushed for their match against Afghanistan at Chennai to be played in Bengaluru.
"Yes, we had a discussion on it but it was just a discussion. It was not as if our entire plans hinged on not playing Afghanistan in Chennai. Look, any team would want to play Afghanistan at some other venue." He conceded that the impression generated by the news that Pakistan had asked for a switch in venues against Afghanistan and Australia didn't go down well and gave a negative feeling about the Pakistan team.
Arthur, who has coached the Pakistan team before between 2016 and 2019, also confirmed he had told the former PCB chairman that he wanted to have Babar Azam as captain.
Asked if he had taken a stand for Babar when rumours were rife that former PCB chairman Najam Sethi and some people around him wanted a change in captaincy, Arthur confirmed he spoke to Sethi and conveyed that Babar had developed well as a leader.
"Babar is a matter of pride for me. The way he has developed as a world class batsman and matured as a leader." "Our entire new philosophy of playing cricket the 'The Pakistani Way' revolves around Babar. He is in total sync with me and the rest of the management that this is how we need to now play our cricket." Explaining the "The Pakistani Way", Arthur said it was all about playing as a unit and believing in one's self.
"It is about everyone knowing that I and the rest of the management totally back Babar in whatever decision he takes and about everyone being there to watch each other's back.
"And it is also about obviously going all the way and not holding back on the field. Pakistan has immense talent and on its day it can beat any team anywhere," Arthur concluded.&nbsp;

&nbsp;India vice captain Smriti Mandhana is likely to miss the Women's T20 World Cup opener against Pakistan on Sunday as she is yet to recover from a finger injury she suffered during a warm-up game.
The 26-year-old opener injured her left middle finger while fielding during the warm-up match against Australia on Monday.
"She suffered an injury in the practice game. We can't say she is out of World Cup yet. But she could miss the Pakistan game," an ICC source told PTI.
The southpaw had batted at number three against Australia instead of her usual opening position. Her innings lasted only three-balls.
Mandhana had subsequently missed India's second warm-up game against Bangladesh on Wednesday.
Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur's fitness is also a concern. She had injured her shoulder during the final of the Tri-Series against South Africa last week.
"Body is fine. It will get better with rest," Kaur had said after the final.
However, the big-hitting middle-order batter did not bat in either of India's warm-up matches.
The 'Women in Blue' are clubbed alongside England, Pakistan, West Indies and Ireland in Group B.&nbsp;
