UNESCO recognizes iftar as Intangible Cultural Heritage, acknowledging its cultural significance across cultures, a milestone for the Muslim community.

UNESCO has officially recognized the significance of iftar, the evening meal that marks the end of daily fasting during the holy month of Ramadan in the Muslim faith, and added it&nbsp;as part of its Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
The application for iftar's was jointly submitted by Iran, T&uuml;rkiye, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan, demonstrating the shared significance of this tradition across different cultures.
This recognition marks a significant achievement for the Muslim community which highlights the importance of iftar as a social and cultural practice.&nbsp;
"Iftar (also called Eftari or Iftor) is observed by Muslims at sunset in the month of Ramadan, upon completion of all religious and ceremonial rites," said UNESCO.
In several Muslim countries, it is customary to mark iftar by eating a date accompanied by tea. Recipes for dishes and pastries, however, vary greatly depending on the country.

The ABVP burnt the effigy of BHU vice chancellor Professor Sudhir Kumar Jain in front of his residence on campus after he attended an iftar party hosted by teachers and students of Mahila Mahavidyalaya. 
The protesting students claimed that this was a new tradition and a move to appease. 
They further alleged that the VC did not find time to celebrate other festivals with students. 
The BHU administration, however, has refuted the claim. University spokesperson Dr Rajesh Singh reportedly said the iftar party was an annual affair and not a new tradition.

The book was "House of Terror", a biography of Anwar alias Umar, who was a terrorist who became an Ikhwan, a member of the government-backed militia. The book highlights "the process of radicalisation of youth by Pakistan and its hybrid terrorists and overground workers (OGWs) in Kashmir, since 1980", according to the Army press release.
The venue of the events was the Old Air Field in Jammu and Kashmir's capital Srinagar.

On&nbsp;April 21, the verified Twitter account of PRO Defence Jammu, run by Lt Col Devender Anand tweeted some photographs of an iftaar organised by the Indian Army in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda.&nbsp;The caption on the photos read, "Keeping alive the traditions of secularism, an iftaar was organised by the Indian Army at Arnora in Doda district."
The post attracted some criticism online, mainly led by Sudarshan News editor-in-chief Suresh Chavhanke.&nbsp;He tweeted, "Now this disease has spread to the Indian Army also? Sad."
Subsequently, the post was deleted by PRO Defence Jammu, a part of the Directorate of Public Relations in the Ministry of Defence.&nbsp;The move did not go down well with some Army veterans.
Major General (retired) Yash Mor tweeted, "Indian Army has been at the forefront of interfaith harmony. We as officer's take pride in the fact that we have NO religion, we just adopt the religion of the troops we command!"

The holy month of Ramzaan brings with it a period of strict abstinence and fasting, in the hope to purify the soul and bring an individual closer to God.
This is the ninth month of the Muslim lunar calendar and believers observe day-long fasts where they eat a pre-dawn meal called suhoor, and they break their fast every day with the iftar meal, thus limiting their food intake to certain hours. It is beleived that fasting is a way to learn patience and break bad habits. Very similar to the concept of intermittent fasting that most nutritionists support, it's considered as a means to stay healthy and fit. 
These restricted eating hours are believed to help the body prevent health problems and improve mental health. Nutritionists believe that by not consuming any food, our body is able to concentrate on removing toxins, as we give the digestive system a break. If followed properly, it might also be able to help individuals lose fat and gain lean muscle mass.
