A security assessment exercise that involves setting planting and dummy Improvised Explosive Devices in areas with high footfall of people is underway in the national capital New Delhi.   The Indian Express reported that the exercise is being done to check preparedness of police department in light of a warning by Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent that it would orchestrate suicide bombings in Delhi, Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat over comments on the Prophet made by suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma. The Delhi Police Special Cell “infiltrated and planted” 30 dummy IEDs in places with high footfall since June of which only 12 were detected — by the public, private security guards and local police. The first batch of 15 dummy IEDs was planted on June 12 across Delhi’s districts, and 10 of them were detected. Of the 10, two were detected.  A police officer told the newspaper that another batch of 15 dummy IEDs was planted on June 28, but this time 13 couldn’t be detected.  The Delhi Police will continue to hold the exercise.

BSF troops resorted to firing briefly along the India-Pakistan border in the Jammu district on Tuesday after hearing a humming sound which led to suspicion that a drone was flying around.
Alert troops fired two rounds on hearing that humming sound coming from a height of about 800 meters in the Akhnoor area, a BSF officer said.
He said all concerned have been informed and further details are awaited.
Drone-threat is present everywhere along the India-Pakistan border but security forces are alert to foil any nefarious design from across the border in the region, a senior Border Security Force officer said.
He said the Army and BSF are fully dominating the Line of Control (LoC) to ensure the protection of the people along the frontier.POLICE STATEMENT:-Yesterday night BSF observed a drone activity in Kanachak area and fired some shots towards the drone. Immediately police party was deployed and they followed the anti drone SOP in the general area. At around 11 pm at Dayaran area of Kanachak, police party observed the drone activity and fired at it again. The payload attached with the drone was brought down. However the drone could not be brought down. The payload contained three magnetic IEDs packed inside children tiffin box with timer set to different timings of 3 hours , 8 hours etc. The IED has been deactivated and diffused through controlled explosion. A case has been registered.

The bomb can then be retrofitted with timer or mobile phone. A timer can give the attacker a few minutes to escape before the explosion. If a mobile phone is attached, to the bomb, then attackers gain remote control. When the number of the phone is dialled, the bomb is triggered. This type of a sticky bomb is considered cheaper than many other explosive devices.

The introduction of sticky bombs in Kashmir is alarming due to their widespread and devastating use in Afghanistan. Such explosive devices were frequently used by Taliban fighters against Afghan government and Western forces. Subsequently, the strategy was adopted by Islamic State terrorists against Taliban, and minority communities. In December 2020, a sticky bomb attack reportedly killed Kabul’s deputy provincial governor. In June 2021, ISIS claimed responsibility for blasts in 2 cars in Shiite neighbourhood which killed at least 7.

There is a fear of the toll rising further as several injured are critical.The Reuters report said that the bus plunged into a deep ravine after the blast and caused heavy losses and One Chinese engineer and one soldier is missing.&nbsp;
In a statement on Wednesday, the Chinese embassy said that "a certain project of a Chinese firm in Pakistan suffered an attack, which caused the deaths of Chinese nationals".
It urged Chinese firms to strengthen their security procedures and called for the swift arrest of the attackers.
Condemning the attack, Foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian urged Pakistan to "severely punish" the perpetrators.

Twin explosions at Jammu Airforce Station a terror attack: JK DGP

Two explosions within a gap of few minutes rocked the high security technical area of Jammu&nbsp;Air Force Station&nbsp;IAF&nbsp;on the intervening night of June 26-27.
The explosions reportedly took place around 2 am.
The first blast ripped off the roof of a building and the second one was on the ground.
Official statement from the Defence PRO stated that there was no injury to any personnel or any damage to equipment.
The area was sealed by security forces within minutes and bomb disposal and forensic teams were rushed to Jammu Airport. Police and forensic teams are trying to ascertain the cause of the mysterious explosions.
A massive search operation has been launched outside the Air Force station. Investigations are on and the matter is being probed from all angles. Terror angle has also not been ruled out.
Meanwhile,&nbsp;a suspected militant was arrested by J&amp;K Police from near a shopping mall in the jurisdiction of Trikuta Nagar Police station and an IED was seized from him.

Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Dilbag Singh on Sunday termed the twin explosions at the high security Indian Air Force station in the Jammu airport a terror attack.
The police, IAF and other agencies were investigating the attack, he said.
Two IAF personnel were injured when two explosives-laden drones crashed into the station around 2 am. The blasts took place within six minutes of each other.

Investigations are on and the matter is being probed from all angles. Terror angle has also not been ruled out.
Meanwhile,&nbsp;a suspected militant was arrested by J&amp;K Police from near a shopping mall in the jurisdiction of Trikuta Nagar Police station and an <a href="https://www.editorji.com/story/3-police-personnel-killed-in-chhattisgarh-ied-blast-1616509447830" target="_blank">IED </a>was seized from him.
