Hyundai Motor India has announced a recall of 1,744 units of its electric model, the Ioniq 5, due to a potential issue with the integrated charging control unit (ICCU). This recall affects vehicles manufactured between July 21, 2022, and April 30, 2024, according to information available from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

The issue stems from a potential defect in the ICCU that may cause the 12V battery to discharge unexpectedly. Addressing this concern, a spokesperson from Hyundai Motor India emphasized that customer safety remains the company's top priority.
"The Ioniq 5 recall is a proactive measure to inspect and upgrade the Integrated Charging Control Unit in the affected vehicles at no cost to the customers," the spokesperson said.
Hyundai has assured that its dedicated teams will reach out to owners of the affected vehicles to guide them through the recall process. As per the spokesperson, this proactive step underscores the company's commitment to ensuring the safety and satisfaction of its customers.&nbsp;&nbsp;
The Ioniq 5, Hyundai's flagship electric vehicle in India, is priced starting at Rs 46.05 lakh (ex-showroom). The model has been well-received in the market for its advanced features and performance. South Korean car manufacturers Hyundai and Kia announced they are recalling more than 91,773 vehicles in the US on Thursday (August 3), over concerns that damaged components in electric oil pump controllers could overheat and catch on fire.
The recall affects several models and stems from an issue with an electrical component in a transmission oil pump, which could overheat. The companies advised owners of the vehicles to park outside and away from buildings until they are inspected.
According to Reuters report, about 52,000 Hyundai vehicles and nearly 40,000 Kia vehicles are covered under the recall.
Kia reports 6 mishaps, Hyundai has 4 similar cases Kia said it has six reports of potentially related thermal events but no accidents or injuries while Hyundai has four similar reports. The automakers informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that they eliminated a suspect part from production in March.&nbsp;
As a safety precaution, Hyundai advised dealers to provide rental vehicles to concerned customers until recall fixes are available. If owners detect a burning/melting odor, they were urged to avoid driving and instead tow the vehicle to the nearest Hyundai dealer.
In addition to the fire risk, heat damage could trigger a short circuit impacting other onboard vehicle controllers, Hyundai said.&nbsp;

Hyundai said in documents posted on 1 November 2022 by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it has had four reports of engine compartment fires from vehicles included in both recalls. No injuries were reported.

The ship can carry multiple drones, submersibles, and other vessels. Its tasks include marine environment monitoring, and disaster management. The vessel was constructed by Huangpu Wenchong Shipyard in Guangzhou, and it might be delivered for deployment by end of 2022.
This is seen as a precursor to an automated warship, currently being developed by the Chinese Navy. The PLA Navy is reportedly working on a drone ship called JARI. The 'mini-destroyer' is designed to carry multiple weapons. It is likely to be armed with surface-to-air missiles, and also lightweight torpedo tubes.
It is likely to be equipped with phased-array radar, electro-optical devices, and sonar. The ship has been built by China State Shipbuilding Corporation. A prototype was launched in 2019, and sea trials began in 2020.
AI-powered ships are also making their way to the commercial world. An autonomous ship recently completed a voyage across the Pacific Ocean.
The ship named 'Prism Courage' was built by Hyundai. It is an ultra-large liquid natural gas tanker operated by SK Shipping. The automated features include monitoring of weather, wave height, and nearby shipping traffic.
Prism Courage travelled from the Gulf of Mexico to the Boryeong LNG Terminal in South Korea via the Panama Canal. Around half of the 20,000 km journey was done with the autonomous system active. It needed human monitoring, but no intervention during journey, as per reports.
India's biggest adversary China is currently focused on establishing itself as the lynchpin of global trade through the Belt and Road Initiative. Beijing is also trying to expand its military footprint in the Indo-Pacific. In both these arenas, autonomous ships might prove to be a gamechanger.

Homegrown, Tata Motors has become the 2nd largest carmaker in the month of May 2022.According to reports, Tata Motors' total sales jumped to 43,341 units while Hyundai’s total domestic sales for the month of May 2022 stood at 42,293.
The company's domestic sales increased three folds to 74,755 units from 24,552 units in May 2021, Tata Motors said in a statement.
Total passenger vehicle dispatches to dealers more than doubled to 43,341 units as against 15,181 units in the year-ago month.
Similarly, domestic commercial vehicle sales surged to 31,414 units last month against 9,371 units in the same period last year.
This is the company's highest ever monthly sales since inception – PV and EV domestic combined - led by robust dispatch of Nexon, Harrier and Safari.
The automajor also reported the highest ever dispatches of electric vehicles last month at 3,454 units, up from 476 units in the same period last year.

Social media users in India strongly objected to the post, and the hashtag Boycott Hyundai soon started trending. Some accused the Korean company of supporting "terror state Pakistan's propaganda on Kashmir." Others appealed to Indians to "rethink" buying Hyundai cars. Some also pointed out the huge gap between Hyundai's sales in India and in Pakistan, calling the Kashmir post "stupid".
The automobile manufacturer's Indian unit tried some damage control by claiming to "stand firmly" for their "strong ethos of respecting nationalism". The statement explained, "The unsolicited social media post linking Hyundai Motor India is offending our unparalleled commitment and service to this great country. India is second home to the Hyundai brand and we have zero tolerance policy towards insensitive communication and we strongly condemn any such view."
The posts by the Pakistani handle linked to the company were also deleted.
However, the statement was called "half-hearted" by BJP leader Vijay Chauthaiwale. Shiv Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi accused the company of using "wishy-washy" words instead of apologising.
Hyundai is reportedly the second-largest carmaker in India after Maruti Suzuki. In January 22, the company sold over 44,000 units in India, and in 2021, its sales were over 5 lakhs, as per reports.

An image posted alongside carried the text KASHMIR covered in barbed wire. February 5 is observed as 'Kashmir Solidarity Day' in Pakistan. Social media users in India strongly objected to the post, and the hashtag Boycott Hyundai soon started trending.
