Indian badminton stars HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen moved up in the latest BWF rankings after their semifinal finishes in the Japan Open Super 750 badminton tournament. Prannoy climbed one spot to the ninth position, while Sen rose two places to secure the 11th spot.
Both players put up a tough fight in the last four but lost to top opponents, Denmark's Viktor Axelsen and Indonesia's Jonatan Christie, respectively.
Meanwhile, former world number one Kidambi Srikanth also saw a slight advancement and is now ranked 19th. Additionally, the men's doubles duo, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, retained their world number 2 ranking in the latest chart.
On the women's side, PV Sindhu, the double Olympic medallist, maintained her position at number 17.&nbsp;
Indian women's doubles pair, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, displayed an excellent performance as well, improving two spots to reach the 17th position in the rankings.

India's HS Prannoy won his first-ever BWF World Tour title after an intense battle against China's Weng Hong Yang.

Indian shuttler HS Prannoy created history by clinching the men's singles title at the Malaysia Masters in Kuala Lumpur.
It was the maiden BWF World Tour title for the World no. 9, who beat China's Weng Hong Yang in an intense battle.
The 30-year-old overcame Yang 21-19, 13-21, 21-18 in a tiring finale that lasted 1 hour and 34 minutes.

India will return home with a first-ever bronze medal from the continental tournament, as both losing semi-finalists are awarded medals.

Though India lost the keenly contested rubber, they will return home with a first-ever medal -- a bronze -- from the continental tournament, as both losing semi-finalists are awarded medals.
Down 0-2 after HS Prannoy had lost the opening semi-final match to Lei Lan Xi13-21, 15-21 and two-time Olympic medallist P V Sindhu had suffered a 9-21 21-16 18-21 defeat at the hands of Gao Fang Jie, the doubles teams gave a far better performance to bring India back on level terms (2-2).
Prannoy was no match for the 2016 world junior champion in mixed team event, losing in just 45 minutes, while Sindhu, who is gradually getting back to full fitness after a heel injury that kept her out for five months, gave a tough fight to her 24-year-old opponent before bowing out in one hour and 10 minutes.
The men's doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila and Chirag Shetty then overcame Ji Ting and Zhou Hao Dong 21-19,21-19 and the women's doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand defeated Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning 21-18 13-21 21-19 to level the scores at 2-2.
All eyes were on the mixed doubles pair of Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto to guide India into the final but Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin proved too strong in the decider, winning 21-17 21-13 in just 34 minutes.
Earlier on Friday, India had staged a remarkable comeback to down Hong Kong 3-2 and qualify for the semi-finals and ensure a first-ever medal in the continental tournament.
