While domestic leisure and business travel will continue to be the primary demand drivers, growing traction in the MICE segment and pickup in foreign tourist arrivals will provide additional fillip, Crisil Ratings said in a report.

Branded hotels in the country are likely to see double-digit revenue growth of 13-14 per cent in 2024-25, and 11-12 per cent in the next financial year on demand surge, a report said on Thursday.
While domestic leisure and business travel will continue to be the primary demand drivers, growing traction in the MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions) segment and pickup in foreign tourist arrivals will provide additional fillip, Crisil Ratings said in a report.
The branded hotels segment registered a strong 17 per cent growth last fiscal, it added.
To meet the increasing demand, the pace of room additions, which has increased since last fiscal, is expected to pick up further and majorly through the asset-light management contract route, it said.
&nbsp;As a result, supply will increase by 20 per cent over this fiscal and the next, it added.
Operating margin is expected to improve by 100-150 basis points (bps) this fiscal and sustain at similar levels in the next, it stated.
Crisil Ratings further said strong cash flows, asset-light expansion and sizeable equity raising will keep debt levels under check, hence, strengthening credit profiles.
"The domestic leisure segment will continue to drive growth on the back of rising travel aspirations and better regional connectivity. Further, a positive economic outlook and the government's 'Meet in India' initiative to promote corporate events will support the business and MICE segments. Foreign tourist arrivals are also expected to surpass the pre-pandemic levels this fiscal," Crisil Ratings Senior Director Mohit Makhija said.
These factors, he said, will drive up the average room rates (ARRs) of branded hotels by 6-7 per cent this fiscal.
"That said, growth in ARRs is expected to moderate to 3-4 per cent next fiscal as significant room capacities come up. These factors will boost the revenue growth by 13-14 per cent this fiscal and 11-12 per cent in the next," he added.
The report said, the number of branded-hotel rooms is slated to rise 8-9 per cent this fiscal and 11-12 per cent in the next, with leisure and non-metro destinations accounting for 65 per cent of additions.
The top seven metros, which offer scope for both leisure and business activities, will account for 25 per cent of these additions, it said, adding that the balance are expected in the up-and-coming spiritual tourism destinations.
"The hotel industry is expanding more into non-metros and emerging leisure destinations as travellers seek more choices and infrastructure in these regions improve. Further, as 60-65 per cent of room additions, over this fiscal and the next, are being done through an asset light route, it eliminates the need for large upfront investment and helps navigate business cyclicality better," Crisil Ratings Associate Director Pallavi Singh said.
Despite these significant room additions, occupancy levels are expected to remain strong at 74-75 per cent next fiscal, declining a modest 50 bps after increasing 100-150 bps this fiscal.
This will allow hotels to benefit from operating leverage which coupled with effective cost management - including higher adoption of technology and manpower rationalisation to move to a leaner fixed cost structure - will lead to earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) margin expand by 100-150 bps to 33-34 per cent this fiscal and the next, the report added.
However, a decline in business travel due to an economic downturn and in leisure travel owing to a surge in airfares will need to be watched out.

While the research shows that guests even steal mattresses and TV sets, the most common item stolen from hotels is towels. A whopping 79.29 per cent of hotel owners revealed that guests most often take home towels, while 66.4 per cent of guests take home bathrobes. The next item that is most stolen from deluxe hotels is hangers.&nbsp;

Hotel occupancy rates across the country experienced a marginal decline in June, albeit showing significant year-on-year growth. Despite remaining above pre-pandemic levels, most major markets observed a 1-3% decrease in average rates compared to May.
The closing quarter of June marked a robust surge in rates compared to the same period in 2022, bolstering revenue per available room, despite a minor downturn in occupancy. According to a report by leading hospitality consultancy HVS, the ongoing year saw the addition of 5,900 new hotel rooms across 84 properties, with an additional 12,500 rooms contracted for approximately 142 hotels.
The average daily rate for hotel rooms in India witnessed a robust year-on-year escalation of 16-18% in the three months leading up to June.
In a year-over-year comparison of June 2023 with figures from 2022, the data indicates an increase of 13-15%, as reported by the hospitality consultancy under the Anarock umbrella. The average daily rate figures demonstrated a remarkable 23-25% surge compared to June 2019, ultimately settling between ₹6,600 and ₹6,800 in contrast to the figures from that year.
For the month, prominent growth in room occupancy was observed in major metropolitan cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, and Kochi, showing a rise of up to 5%. However, there was a notable decline of 5-10% in cities like Pune, Bengaluru, and Chandigarh, while Goa and Hyderabad markets experienced a milder contraction of up to 5%.

As the year-end festivities and Christmas Holidays are around the corner, demand for homestays and 3-star hotels have surged and contributed to almost 60% of the searches for hotels for the upcoming holiday season.&nbsp;
According to the latest Justdial Consumer Insights report, Demand for Home Stays saw a meteoric 135 per cent jump, and that for 3-star hotels rose by 18 per cent, while that for others remained stable.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Among Tier-I cities, demand for homestays remained the highest in Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Delhi.
While searches for Hotels soared, searches for Bars, Fast Food, Food Delivery, and Dhabas made up for the top-5 most searched services during this holiday and party season. Hotels dominated with 27 per cent of the overall searches followed by Bars (23 per cent), Fast Food (18 per cent), Food Delivery (17 per cent), and Dhabas (14 per cent).

Hoteliers across India are looking at the wedding season with great hope as the demand is expected to surpass pre-Covid levels in the wedding season spanning from October end till March 2022. According to the Federation of Hotel &amp; Restaurant Association of India (FHRAI), in late 2021, booking cancellations for Christmas and New Year celebrations including weddings and planned events due to the surge in Covid cases had caused a loss of Rs 200 crore to the hospitality industry. But this year, hotel chain, Wyndham has already clocked 100 per cent bookings on wedding dates in various Indian cities, like Chandigarh, Kochi, Dehradun, Mussoorie, Kasauli, Jalandhar, Lucknow, Udaipur and Jaipur. And Royal Orchid and Regenta Hotels present in Goa, Mussoorie, Ranthambore, and Hampi too admitted to improved demand for hotels in the wedding season according to the Economic Times report.

They will have round-the-clock medical services including doctor consultations, nurses, medicines and ambulance transfer. The hospitals can charge up to ₹4,000 for these facilities and ₹6,000 for a room if anyone is staying with the patient.
In Delhi, the state government also issued orders to attach hotels and banquet halls with private and government hospitals, to add more beds for Covid patients. So far,&nbsp;five Delhi government hospitals have been attached with banquet halls.&nbsp;
