The fire broke out at approximately 3 a.m., reportedly due to a suspected short circuit in a switchboard located in the seminar room adjacent to the burns ward on the hospital's first floor. A vigilant resident doctor on duty noticed the blaze and promptly alerted authorities. The fire department responded swiftly and managed to extinguish the flames.
At the time of the incident, the burns ward housed 26 patients, comprising 14 men, five women, and seven children, with five of the patients in intensive care unit (ICU), stated Ramesh Krishna K, Dean and Director of Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute, in an official statement.
"As a precautionary measure and due to the presence of smoke, we have transferred all 26 burns patients from this ward to the H Block of Victoria Hospital. All patients, attendants, doctors, and hospital staff are safe, and the situation is well under control," he confirmed.

These hospitals will add 800 beds to the existing medical care infrastructure of ESIC. The construction of the hospitals will also begin soon. The decision was taken at a meeting of Standing Committee of ESIC on Tuesday under the chairpersonship of Union Labour Secretary Sumita Dawra, a labour ministry statement said.
The seven ESI Hospitals will be constructed at Harohalli, Narsapura, Bommasandra (Karnataka), Merrut, Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh), Pithampur (Madhya Pradesh) and Duburi (Odisha).
Besides this, important decisions aimed at enhancing the availability of medical care and cash benefits to insured workers and their family members were taken.

These decisions are in line with the vision for Viksit Bharat, to augment the medical and cash benefits delivery infrastructure, it stated.
There has been an exponential growth in the number of districts and insured workers covered under the ESI scheme during the last ten years, with their numbers rising to 666 and 3.43 crore, respectively

He added that the hospital is facing a financial crisis due to non-approval of funds and because of that contracts for maintenance of CT scan machines and other equipment were not paid.
Many machines were shut down due to lack of maintenance.
Ashok Chavan said that while the capacity of the Nanded Hospital is 500 patients, it is treating about 1,200 patients.

"The (CMO) chief medical officer ordered a probe after the patient died.
In the probe, some irregularities were found. The hospital has been sealed till the probe is completed," the additional CMO said on Thursday.

Adviser to the Chief Minister Chaudhry Zaman Gujjar on Thursday visited the Nishter Hospital in Multan, some 350 kms from Lahore, and found several "abandoned" bodies on the roof of the hospital's mortuary.
The Chief Minister has ordered cremation of the abandoned bodies and directed the health authorities to take action against the employees involved in the matter.
Nishtar Medical University&rsquo;s Prof Dr Maryam Asharf said in a statement on Friday that it received &ldquo;unclaimed, unidentified and unknown dead bodies&rdquo; from the police department. &ldquo;The process of decomoposition has begun in such bodies and they were put on the roof of the dead house for different medical purposes. These bodies are used for medical experiments by students and this is done in accordance with rules laid down of the government,&rdquo; she said.

Around 8.50 pm, information was received regarding a quarrel at Jamia Millia Islamia university library, they said.
During inquiry, it was found that the fight had ensued between two groups of students, a senior police officer said.
In the incident, one student, Noman Chaudhary (26), a resident of Meerut district in Uttar Pradesh, sustained blunt injury on his head and had gone to the Holy Family Hospital for treatment, the officer said.
Another student, Nauman Ali, an associate of Nauman Chaudhary, also visited the hospital to see his friend, they said.
Meanwhile, one student of the second group, Zalal, a resident of Mewat in Haryana, accompanied by his friends came to the hospital and fired at Nauman Ali outside the emergency ward, the officer said.
Nauman Ali had a superficial injury on the scalp. The injured had been shifted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre. The crime team is inspecting the scene of crime. Legal action has been initiated accordingly at Jamia Nagar and New Friends Colony police stations, the officer added.

Lokesh Tantuwaya, a neurosurgeon, reportedly admitted to taking around $3.3 million in bribes from Michael Drobot, the owner of the Pacific Hospital in Long Beach.
Drobot allegedly paid bribes to doctors, chiropractors, and marketers for referral of thousands of patients to Pacific Hospital for surgeries and other medical services. The hospital was paid for the medical procedures through the California workers’ compensation system.
Tantuwaya said that he knew the receipt of money was illegal, and that he owed a fiduciary duty to his patients to not take money in exchange for referring them to Pacific Hospital.
So far, 23 defendants have been convicted for participating in the kickback scheme.

Lokesh Tantuwaya, a neurosurgeon, reportedly admitted to taking around $3.3 million in bribes from Michael Drobot, the owner of the Pacific Hospital in Long Beach.
Drobot allegedly paid bribes to doctors, chiropractors, and marketers for referral of thousands of patients to Pacific Hospital for surgeries and other medical services. The hospital was paid for the medical procedures through the California workers&rsquo; compensation system.
Tantuwaya said that he knew the receipt of money was illegal, and that he owed a fiduciary duty to his patients to not take money in exchange for referring them to Pacific Hospital.
So far, 23 defendants have been convicted for participating in the kickback scheme.

Leaders of the Paraja tribal community, to which Pujari belongs, demanded action against the social worker. The accused, Mamata Behera, has claimed that she had no bad intention, and wanted to shun Pujari’s laziness, according to news agency PTI.
Pujari was conferred with the Padma Shri in 2019 for promoting organic farming and preserving over 100 varieties of indigenous seeds of different crops including paddy. She was hospitalised over some kidney ailments.

Four people were killed and nine others injured in a fire that broke out at a private hospital here on Monday, an official said.
Jabalpur Collector Dr Ilayaraja T said a rescue operation was on at the hospital to evacuate patients.
The collector confirmed the death of four people and injuries to nine others in the blaze.
However, it was not immediately clear if the deceased included patients.
The fire erupted at New Life Multi-speciality Hospital near Damoh Naka under the Gohalpur police station area of Jabalpur in the afternoon, Superintendent of Police (SP) Siddharth Bahuguna told PTI.
Prima facie it appears a short circuit caused the blaze, he said.

He said evacuation of patients and other people from the 30-bed hospital was over and no one was trapped in the building.
The Collector said there were 20 to 25 people in the hospital when the blaze started.

A video purportedly showing a government doctor checking an ailing woman on a rickshaw by the roadside instead of providing her a stretcher and admitting her to hospital has gone viral, following which the government has initiated proceedings to terminate him from service.
According to officials, the woman exhibited symptoms of HIV and her son-in-law carried her to the MMG District Hospital here in the rickshaw for anti-retroviral therapy. They were accompanied by the woman's husband and children.
However, Dr Sheel Verma attended to her in the rickshaw itself and referred her to Meerut Medical College. The incident took place on Wednesday, the officials said.
As the video went viral, Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak ordered Chief Medical Officer Dr Bhavtosh Shankhdhar to get an inquiry conducted into the incident.
Chief Medical Superintendent Manoj Kumar Chaturvedi, who conducted the inquiry on Thursday, said a report seeking Dr Verma's termination has been sent to the government, while ward boy Mayank, who accompanied the doctor, has already been sacked.

A 64-year-old patient died at a hospital in Delhi's Rohini area in the early hours of Saturday after his oxygen support was disrupted due to a fire at the facility, officials said.
The fire, apparently caused due to a short circuit, broke out on the third floor of Brahm Shakti Hospital, Pooth Khurd, they said.
The information regarding the fire was received around 5 am, following which the local police reached the spot and called fire tenders, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Pranav Tayal said.
Delhi Fire Services (DFS) Director Atul Garg said a total of nine fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames. The fire has been completely doused, Garg said.
All were safely rescued except one patient, who was admitted to the ICU and on a ventilator support, the DCP said.
Holi, a kidney patient and resident of Prem Nagar, was taken out but he died due to the disruption in power and oxygen support, DCP Tayal said.
No operational fire fighting system was found in place and the fire exit door was found locked/blocked, they said.
A case under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 285 (negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible mat­ter), 287 (negligent conduct with respect to machinery), and 304A (causing death by negligence) is being registered in this regard at the Vijay Vihar police station, the DCP said.
Fire incidents were reported at Safdarjung Hospital in south Delhi and at Makkar Multispeciality Hospital in the eastern part of the city on May 27 and there was no casualty.
