Both men&rsquo;s and women&rsquo;s hockey tournaments at Paris 2024 will get underway on 27 July. The first match of Hockey at Paris 2024 will be an all-European affair with Great Britain taking on Spain in the men&rsquo;s Pool A match.

Wasn&rsquo;t she respected here for four years? If she felt like that, she could have said it anytime during these four years. But when India didn&rsquo;t qualify for the Olympics, all these things came up.'&nbsp; He even wondered if the administration should have removed Schopman from her post after the Asian Games bronze consolation.&nbsp; 'I had clearly told everyone that if she stays, India can never qualify for the Olympics. And I wasn&rsquo;t saying this. Our selectors, too, were of this opinion.,' Singh remarked.&nbsp;

Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey and Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh denied outgoing CEO Elena Norman's assertion of a rift between them.

Norman suggested that Tirkey and Singh were at loggerheads and also complained of a difficult work environment.

Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey and Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh on Wednesday denied outgoing CEO Elena Norman's assertion of a rift between them, saying that they are "united" and working in the best interest of the sport.
Norman resigned on Tuesday and in an interview to PTI she alleged that there was factionalism in the body. The 49-year-old Australian suggested that Tirkey and Singh were at loggerheads and also complained of a difficult work environment.
In a joint statement, Tirkey and Singh rejected Norman's claims.
"Recently there have been statements by outgoing officials published in the media, claiming that there are divisions within the organisation. This is not correct. We remain united in working together, and as always in the best interest of the sport," the two said.
"Hockey India is an autonomous and professional body dedicated to the development of Indian hockey. Our primary objective as an organisation has been and continues to remain the welfare and progress of the sport of hockey and our athletes."
Norman's resignation was the second blow to HI in the last few days after the Indian women's hockey team coach Janneke Schopman resigned, also complaining of a difficult work environment. Schopman had accused HI of giving step-motherly treatment to women's hockey.
Tirkey and Singh said HI has always treated all teams and players equally and also claimed to have built an environment of equality in the organisation.
"We have built our ethos around equity and equal opportunities right from the grassroots levels across states as well as on a national level," their statement read.
"In this spirit, our entire focus remains on growing our talent, ensuring all hosted events are conducted with utmost professionalism and our national teams are receiving the best support to support their performance at the global stage."
Norman began her tenure as the federation's first CEO back in 2011 with Narinder Batra as the head. After resigning, she stated that it was difficult for her to continue given the bickering inside HI.
"There are two factions in Hockey India. There is (President) Dilip Tirkey and I and there is (Secretary) Bholanath Singh, (Executive Director) Cdr. R K Srivastava and (Treasurer) Sekar J Manoharan," she said.
"There are guys who want power and then there is (HI President) Dilip (Tirkey) who is a nice guy, only after the betterment of Indian hockey," she explained.
Tirkey and Singh said their focus is now on rebuilding the women's team, which failed to qualify for the Olympics, and helping the men's side that is due to compete in the quadrennial showpiece in Paris this year.
"We will continue in this pursuit of excellence and rebuild the women's team with a fresh approach to providing the right infrastructure and training to enhance their performance," they stated.
"In addition to this, we are cognisant of this being an Olympic year and are dedicated to aiding the National Men's Team with the required support to stand on the podium yet again in the forthcoming Olympic Games in Paris this year."

Her resignation is the second blow to HI in the last few days after the Indian women's hockey team coach Janneke Schopman resigned, also complaining of a difficult work environment.

Outgoing Hockey India CEO Elena Norman on Tuesday said the work environment in HI was "difficult" and she had no choice but to call it quits.
After holding the position for 13 years, Norman resigned and even though HI did not reveal the specific reasons for her decision in its official statement, the Australian spoke out on what pushed her to exit.
"Absolutely, it was getting tough to deliver in the fight between two factions," Norman told PTI in an interview.
"There are two factions in Hockey India. There is (President) Dilip Tirkey and I and there is (Secretary) Bholanath Singh, (Executive Director) Cdr. R K Srivastava and (Treasurer) Sekar J Manoharan," she said.
"There are guys who want power and then there is (HI President) Dilip (Tirkey) who is a nice guy, only after betterment of Indian hockey," the 49-year-old explained.
What aggravated the entire situation was the non-payment of her remuneration for three months.
"There were some issues (regarding my salary) and after much persuasion that got cleared last week," Norman said.
Her resignation is the second blow to HI in the last few days after the Indian women's hockey team coach Janneke Schopman resigned, also complaining of a difficult work environment.
Schopman said she was not being valued and appreciated by the governing body.
Norman also made similar assertions and talked about the infighting within HI without dwelling on the issues that were causing the clash of ideas. She, however, praised Tirkey for his unwavering support.
Sources in HI said Tirkey has struggled to devote time to HI due to his political commitments with the Biju Janata Dal party in Odisha. He is expected to fight Lok Sabha elections later this year.
Norman, who moved to India in 2007 to work for a sports marketing firm before being appointed the federation's first CEO in 2011, said she has put her points across to the HI board and is now looking forward to a break.
"I have addressed my point to the board members. Dilip knows everything but I don't want to go into specifics. I feel it's my time to leave and I am excited about new opportunities. It's just time for myself now," she said.
"I am going to take a holiday, I am going to go fishing, I am going to go for some trek, I am going to spend time with my family. I have been here for a long time so I just want to unwind now.
"I will take at least three months off and then look for exciting opportunities. I don't know what will happen in future to be honest but it's all going to be great," she added enthusiastically.
Norman served a major part of her stint with HI when former International Hockey Federation (FIH) chief Narinder Batra was the president of the national body.
During her tenure, HI hosted two consecutive editions of FIH Men's World Cup in 2018 and 2023, two Junior Men's World Cup in 2016 and 2021 and also hosted five editions of the now-discontinued Hockey India League (HIL).
She was at the forefront of the organisational set-up for these events.
Norman was also instrumental in the appointment of Dutchman Sjoerd Marijne as the head coach of the women's team, which finished a historic fourth in the Tokyo Olympics. Schopman too was also seen as her choice.
She is also credited for Australian Graham Reid's appointment as the men's coach in 2019. Under Reid's tutelage, the team won a bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics, ending a 41-year drought.
Besides, HI also hosted several international hockey events including the Champions Trophy, World League Finals in 2015 and 2017, Olympic Qualifiers in 2019 and 2024 as well as the Hockey Pro League home games during her tenure.&nbsp;

India got the first scoring chance of the match in the form of a penalty corner but Japan goalkeeper Takashi Yoshikawa made a confident save to deny home team skipper Harmanpreet Singh.
The Indians set pace of the game and enjoyed bulk of the possession, while Japan played catch-up hockey.
After a barren first quarter, India finally took the lead in the 19th minute through Akashdeep Singh, who slapped the ball in from a rebound after Hardik Singh's initial shot was saved by Japan's second goalkeeper Takumi Kitagawa.
India kept up the tempo and earned their second penalty corner in the 23rd minute and India skipper Harmanpreet sounded the board with a fierce low flick to the left of Japanese goalie to double India's lead.
Just at the stroke of half-time, India tripled their lead through Mandeep Singh.
It was Manpreet Singh who was instrumental in getting the third goal as he intercepted the ball in the midfield and then beat three Japanese defenders to set it up for Mandeep, who just had to direct the ball in.
The trend continued after the change of ends as India continued to press hard on the Japanese goal.
Sumit probably scored the goal of the tournament with a back stick flick into the net from a tight angle after being brilliantly set up by Manpreet's hardwork from the right flank.
Young Karthi Selvam made it 5-0 in India's favour in the 51st minute after being fed by an unselfish Sukhjeet Singh, who received a perfect ariel ball from Harmanpreet.
India will take on Malaysia in the final on Saturday, while Japan will be up against defending champions South Korea in the third-fourth place play-off match.

"The power of money. Belgians know India and its obligations well. They must be careful with water and food. They have their routine. It is regrettable that India still hosts such an event. But India is the only country that can fill stadiums with 20,000 seats every day. The atmosphere is guaranteed. In addition, it is the only nation that can count on global sponsors like Hero or Odisha. The choice makes sense financially, but unfair to sporting fairness. India started their 2023 Hockey World Cup campaign with a 2-0 victory against Spain.
It was Amit Rohidas who gave India the lead in the first quarter with a smashing goal that resulted from a rebound off a penalty corner.
Hardik Singh then doubled the lead with a deflected strike before the half-time break.
Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh though missed a golden chance to make it 3-0, with the Spanish goalkeeper managing to save his penalty stroke in the third quarter.
While Spain too had a few close moments right at the end, India kept their calm to complete a 2-0 win.

The World Cup fever has gripped Odisha as all the games at the state-of-the-art Birsa Munda Stadium in Rourkela have been sold out.

20 of the 44 matches of the Hockey World Cup will be played in Rourkela's new Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium. The remaining 24 matches will be played in Bhubaneswar. India will play two of its three pool matches in Rourkela.
