Amid a row over hijab in Karnataka, BJP leader Pragya Singh Thakur on Wednesday said headscarves will not be tolerated if they are worn in educational institutions other than madrassas.
The Lok Sabha member from Bhopal also said that Hindus worship women and don't see them in evil manner.
Thakur was speaking at a function in a temple in Barkheda Pathani area here.
"You have madrassas. We have nothing to do if you wear hijab or apply khijab (hair colour) there (in madrassas). You wear the attire required there and follow their discipline. But if you distort the knowledge and discipline of schools and colleges in the country and start wearing hijab and applying khijab then it will not be tolerated," she said.
The disciples of 'gurukul' (traditional Hindu educational institutions) wear 'bhagwa' (saffron) attire, but when such students go to other schools, they wear the school uniform and follow the discipline of the educational institutions, she added.
Thakur said that khijab is used for hiding the greying hair, while hijab is meant to cover faces.
"Hijab is a purdah. Purdah should be (used) against those who see you with evil eyes. But it is certain that Hindus don't see them with evil eyes as they worship women," she said.
In 'sanatan dharma', the place where women are not revered is like a crematorium, Thakur said while chanting a 'shloka' (verse).
"You should wear hijab in your homes," she added while citing the marriage customs among Muslims.

A dispute over restrictions on the wearing of the hijab by female students in Karnataka has now reached India’s most populous state of Uttar Pradesh, with a group of youngsters asking a college to ban the head covering.
The Dharma Samaj College in Aligarh, has now issued a notice banning entry of students without the prescribed uniform.
The directives come two days after the group of students wearing saffron scarves held a protest in the campus, and handed a memorandum to its officials seeking a complete ban on the hijab within its compound.
Reuters reported that religious garb was already not allowed in classrooms of Dharma Samaj College, but could have be worn elsewhere on campus.

The special leave petition has been filed by a student who said the interim order only affects <a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/github-user-banned-for-posting-doctored-photos-of-muslim-women-case-registered-1641120142628" target="_blank">Muslim women</a> and&nbsp; has in effect suspended article 25(1) for the Muslim community in Karnataka. Subjected to public order, Article 25(1) guarantees&nbsp;right to freedom of conscience and the right freely to profess, practise and propagate religion.

Whether it is a bikini, a 'ghoonghat', a pair of jeans or a 'hijab', it is a woman's right to decide what she wants to wear, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said on Wednesday amid the ongoing hijab row in Karnataka.
She asserted that this right is guaranteed by the Constitution.
Incidents of stone pelting and use of force by police were reported on Tuesday as the <a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/hijab-ban-karnataka-hc-order-only-affects-muslim-women-petitioner-tells-sc-1644557859789" target="_blank">hijab row in Karnataka</a> escalated and protests by students spread to more colleges prompting the state government to declare a three-day holiday for all educational institutions.
"Whether it is a bikini, a ghoonghat, a pair of jeans or a hijab, it is a woman's right to decide what she wants to wear," Gandhi tweeted.

"This right is GUARANTEED by the Indian constitution. Stop harassing women," she said using the hashtag 'ladkihoonladsaktihoon'.
The <a href="https://www.editorji.com/elections/up-elections/up-election-2022-amid-hijab-row-pm-says-muslim-women-s-praise-for-modi-caused-rivals-stomach-ache-1644488141248" target="_blank">hijab controversy</a> first erupted in January at a government PU College in Udupi, where six students who attended classes wearing headscarf were asked to leave the campus. The protests against hijab&nbsp;by rightwing&nbsp;groups have&nbsp;now spread to different parts of the state. Several Hindu students are turning up in saffron shawls.
Such saffron-clad students are also being barred from entering classes.
The row has also taken a political colour as the ruling BJP stood strongly in support of uniform-related rules being enforced by educational institutions, calling the headscarf, a religious symbol, while the opposition Congress has come out in support of Muslim girls.&nbsp;
