Defence spokesperson Lt Colonel Mahendra Rawat said in Guwahati that the helicopter was on an operational sortie from Missamari in Assam&rsquo;s Sonitpur district to Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh.
The flight encountered &ldquo;inconducive weather&rdquo; and was returning to Missamari when it crashed, he said.
&ldquo;The helicopter lost contact with Air Traffic Control (ATC) around 9.15 am. Five search parties of the Indian Army, SSB and ITBP were immediately launched. The wreckage of the aircraft was found near Banglajaap east village of Mandala,&rdquo; Rawat said.
&ldquo;A Court of Inquiry is ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident,&rdquo; he added.
Rohit Rajbir Singh, the superintendent of police, Special Investigation Cell (SIC), said villagers had found the crashed chopper ablaze in Dirang, and informed district officials.
"Villagers from Bangjalep at Dirang located the chopper around 12.30 pm," Singh said.
The area has no mobile connectivity and the weather is extremely foggy with visibility as low as five meters, he said.

A helicopter pilot and a meteorologist who worked for a North Carolina television station died Tuesday when a news helicopter crashed along a Charlotte-area interstate, with police praising the pilot for heroically avoiding the roadway in his final moments.
Meteorologist Jason Myers and pilot Chip Tayag were identified as the people killed in the crash in a statement by WBTV &mdash; and by coworkers who'd been reporting on the crash live from the station's studio.
Fighting back tears, anchors Jamie Boll and Molly Grantham mourned their colleagues while providing updates during a broadcast that carried on uninterrupted for hours. They included witness reports that Tayag prevented the helicopter from crashing onto Interstate-77 during a busy week of holiday travel.

And tragically, there are two people involved in this crash that will not be going home and will not be spending the holidays with their family." Anchors Boll and Grantham spent at least 90 minutes providing live coverage before halting to confirm the deaths of Myers and Tayag, having made sure their families were notified.
"The words are hard to come by folks, we've been holding on to this for a while," Boll said, his voice wavering before he cleared his throat.
Boll had seen Tayag at 11 a.m. Tuesday morning as the pilot sat in the helicopter, preparing to pick up Myers, the meteorologist.
"Those smiles you see right there on your screen, those are those two people," Boll said from the anchor desk.
"Every single day in this newsroom, Chip would wave at you say hello, ask you how you're doing. He'd wave from behind the pilot's chair of the helicopter," Boll said. "Jason Myers &mdash; I could go on and on. He would bound through this newsroom with incredible energy and smiles and just cared about everybody here." Myers was raised in North Carolina's Union and Catawba counties and worked in the city of Raleigh, and in Texas and Virginia before returning to the Charlotte area where he grew up, WBTV said. He and his wife Jillian have four children.
Tayag had been a pilot for more than 20 years, the station said. He began working for WBTV in 2017 and celebrated his three-year wedding anniversary in August, according to his Instagram page.
Governor Roy Cooper offered his condolences to the station and the North Carolina press corps at large.
"This is a terrible tragedy for the WBTV family and we are praying for them and all of those in the media who work so hard to keep the public informed,&rdquo; Cooper wrote in a tweet.
The National Transportation Safety Board will lead an investigation into the crash along with the FAA.&nbsp;

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday told Parliament that a tri-services inquiry led by Air Marshal Manavendra Singh has started investigation into the helicopter crash that killed India's first Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin&nbsp;Rawat, his wife and 11 others.
Singh said in a statement in the Lok Sabha that all efforts were being made to save Group Captain Varun Singh, who was on life support.

Chopper Crash:&nbsp;13, including India's top general died after an IAF chopper crashed in Tamil Nadu's Coonoor on Wednesday.

Air at Madras Regimental Centre turned sombre and emotional as mortal remains of CDS&nbsp;General Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat and 11 others were brought from Military Hospital in Wellington on Thursday morning.
13, including India's top general died after an IAF chopper crashed in Tamil Nadu's Coonoor on Wednesday.
The caskets carrying remains of those killed in the crash were placed at the Centre for the military personnel and Tamil Nadu politicians to pay their last respects.
The bodies will be flown in to Delhi later in the day in a military plane.

General Rawat will be cremated in Delhi Cantonment on Friday.
Those killed in the crash included Brig LS Lidder, the military adviser to the Chief of Defence Staff, and staff officer Lt Col Harjinder Singh.
The other personnel killed are Wing Commander PS Chauhan, Squadron Leader K Singh, JWO Das, JWO Pradeep A, Havildar Satpal, Naik Gursewak Singh, Naik Jitender Kumar, Lance Naik Vivek Kumar and Lance Naik Sai Teja.

The Indian Air Force on Wednesday&nbsp;evening confirmed that India&rsquo;s first Chief of Defence Staff, General Bipin Rawat, and his wife Madhulika Rawat were among the 13 people killed in the chopper crash in Tamil Nadu&rsquo;s Coonoor.
The IAF said Group Captain Varun Singh is the lone survivor among the 14 occupants and is currently under treatment at Military Hospital in Wellington.
General Rawat was on a visit to Defence Services Staff College &nbsp;in the&nbsp;Nilgiri Hills to address the faculty and student officers of the Staff Course.

There was no concrete information on the number of persons travelling in the helicopter though official sources had earlier said 3-4 senior officials were among its occupants.
The helicopter, carrying a few senior officials, was on its way from Sulur in Coimbatore to DSC in Wellington where Rawat, along with Chief of Army Staff MM Naravane, was slated to participate in an event later, the sources added.
The chopper crashed in the forest area, reportedly due to poor visibility following heavy fog, they added.
Rescue personnel, along with Army men, were seen involved in clearing the area.
Medical teams from nearby Coimbatore, including burns specialists, have also been sent to Coonoor to treat the injured.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin will visit Coonoor and will leave for Coimbatore by air later in the day.

In a big tragedy, an army chopper carrying Chief of Defence Staff and his wife crashed in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.
Initial reports said that 14 people, including senior defence officials, were on board the Mi Series chopper when the accident happened.
News agency PTI&nbsp;has reported that at least 4 onboard have been confirmed dead.
Videos from the site of the crash showed Chopper up in flames.

The chopper reportedly crashed between Coimbatore and Sulur in Tamil Nadu.
The rescue operations is on and the Army has not officially said anything on the incident yet.
