A study published in the American Heart Association's journal stated that middle-aged women who sleep less than five hours each could increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.&nbsp;
Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh tracked almost 3,000 women aged 42 to 52 for 22 years, monitoring how they slept and their heart condition. The study found that women who slept less than five hours per night are more likely to suffer from heart problems than those who slept more than 6 hours.&nbsp;
Experts proposed that the link between sleep and heart disease may stem from inadequate sleep raising blood pressure and triggering insulin resistance, harming blood vessels.
Poor sleep also raised obesity risk in women, likely due to disrupted hunger signals. Prior research highlights growing sleep problems and declining heart health in middle-aged adults.
The CDC advises at least seven hours of sleep nightly, yet many Americans struggle to meet this target, particularly younger generations requiring more sleep for optimal function.

Do you tend to oversleep during the weekend? A new study conducted by Nanjing Medical University in China has concluded that this might actually be good for you! Analyzing data on 3400 US adults, compiled from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, or NHANES for short, the researchers made some astonishing findings on weekend catch-up sleep.
The NHANES aimed to gather data on participants&rsquo; sleeping hours during both weekends and weekdays, as well as if they had any or all of the following risk factors: heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes mellitus. Analysis of the data from this survey showed that adults aged 20 or older who slept an hour longer on weekends than on weekdays had lower rates of stroke, coronary artery disease, and angina.
In addition, adults who slept less than six hours on weekdays, and got two or more extra hours of sleep on the weekend, had the most significant reduction in this risk. Perhaps paradoxically though, there didn&rsquo;t seem to be any association between weekend catch-up sleep in adults who slept for more than six hours on weekdays.
This isn&rsquo;t the first study conducted on sleep and the risk of cardiovascular disease either, as prior studies by both Nanjing researchers and researchers at other institutions have shown that there is a significant correlation between heart disease risk, diabetes mellitus, obesity, high blood pressure, and even depression.

For the study, researchers examined data from more than 50,000 people. They evaluated whether dietary intake of vitamins K1 and K2 was linked to ASCVD. As per the team, the main dietary sources of vitamin K1 eaten by participants were lettuce, broccoli, wholemeal bread and spinach. Eggs, butter and hard cheeses were the main dietary sources of vitamin K2.
The study found that people with the highest intake of vitamin K1 were 21 percent less likely to be hospitalised with cardiovascular disease. And for vitamin K2, the risk of being hospitalised was 14 percent lower.&nbsp;

From around 331 million (33.1 crore) women and 317&nbsp;million&nbsp;(31.7 crore) men in 1990, the number rose to&nbsp;626 million (62.6 crores) women and 652 million (65.2 crores) men by 2019. Most of this increase was observed in low to middle-income countries, informs a study recently published in the journal Lancet.
In India, the prevalence of hypertension, also called high blood pressure,&nbsp;grew&nbsp;from&nbsp;28% in women and 29% in men in 1990 to 32% in women and 38% in men in 2019.&nbsp;&nbsp; The study analysed blood pressure measurements of over 100 million adults across 184 countries.&nbsp;
Even though hypertension is easy to diagnose and treat, nearly half of the people&nbsp;living&nbsp;with high BP were unaware and more than half were not treated, found the study.&nbsp;&nbsp;
As a result,&nbsp;8.5 million&nbsp;(85 lakh)&nbsp;people died of hypertension in 2015. The condition is also a leading risk factor for&nbsp;heart attack, heart failure, other vascular diseases and renal disease.&nbsp;
