If you want to keep your heart in good shape, you should drink at least eight glasses of water every day throughout your life, finds a report presented at&nbsp;the&nbsp;European Society of Cardiology Congress 2021.
The&nbsp;research from the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) found that staying hydrated&nbsp;throughout your life can reduce your risk of heart failure&nbsp;as far ahead as 25 years later.

Official recommendations on daily fluid&nbsp;intake&nbsp;range&nbsp;from 1.6 to 2.1 litres for women and 2 to 3 litres for men. Sounds easy enough, right?&nbsp;But surveys show that nearly one in two persons do not fulfil their&nbsp;daily&nbsp;adequate intake&nbsp;of water from fluids.
Authors of the NIH study explain that dehydration becomes especially problematic when&nbsp;a lack of fluid intake&nbsp;shoots up&nbsp;one's blood salt levels above a specific threshold&nbsp;(of&nbsp;142 millimoles per&nbsp;litre.)&nbsp;Their findings linked higher serum sodium concentration in midlife with both heart failure and left ventricular hypertrophy 25 years later.&nbsp;
But the good news is that you can reduce your risk significantly just by drinking enough water!&nbsp;

According to a new study presented at the European Stroke Organisation (ESO) Conference, women are at a higher risk of heart attack and stroke than men. This is due to work stress, sleep disorders and fatigue which are termed as non-traditional risk factors for heart disease.

For the study, researchers compared data of 22,000 men and women from the Swiss Health Survey from the year 2007 to 2017. During the 10 year follow-up period, work stress in participants rose from 59 percent to 66 percent. The trend coincided with an increase in the number of women working full-time from 38 percent to 44 percent. Over the same period, the number of participants (especially women) reporting sleep disorders and fatigue also went up.
Although men are perceived to be at higher risk of heart attacks and strokes. Women are more affected by non-traditional risk factors as they are working full time; juggling between work and domestic responsibilities, researchers concluded.

For the study, the team examined a total of 3,227 patients, with and without established heart disease. The &lsquo;broken heart syndrome&rsquo; is a temporary heart condition brought upon by an extremely stressful or strongly emotional experience, like the loss of a loved one.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Officially termed&nbsp;takotsubo cardiomyopathy, the syndrome&nbsp;occurs almost exclusively in women, as per Harvard Health.&nbsp;Its&nbsp;main symptoms are chest pain and shortness of breath which is perhaps why the syndrome is often confused for a heart attack.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Due to limited research,&nbsp;we still don&rsquo;t&nbsp;quite&nbsp;know what exactly causes scientists have now identified two molecules that are&nbsp;associated with depression, anxiety and increased stress levels in the&nbsp;blood of takotsubo patients.&nbsp;&nbsp;
The research team then analysed the impact of exposing these cells to cells from human&nbsp;and rat&nbsp;hearts. It was found that both heart cells turned more sensitive to adrenaline after exposure.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Writing in the journal&nbsp;Cardiovascular Research,&nbsp;lead study author&nbsp;Dr Liam Couch from Imperial College London&nbsp;says their findings&nbsp;seem to link&nbsp;long-term stress with the dramatic&nbsp;takotsubo response to a sudden shock.&nbsp;&nbsp;
