The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday requested the Supreme Court to monitor the CBI probe into the alleged gang rape and torture of the Hathras Dalit woman who died last month in the capital. The state government also requested the top court to direct the investigating agency to submit fortnightly status reports.
It stressed on its &lsquo;commitment to provide complete security to victims' family and witnesses&rsquo; and in its affidavit submitted a list of police personnel posted for security. The apex court was informed that eight CCTV cameras have been installed outside the victim&rsquo;s home to keep a watch.

The Dalit girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by four men and was referred to Safdarjung Hospital in an extremely critical condition with spinal injuries and paralysis. Her death on September 29th and subsequent hasty cremation generated considerable political heat on the UP government.

A case has been registered against Bhim Army chief Chandrashekar Azad and 400 others after he visited Hathras in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday to meet the family of the 20-year-old Hathras Dalit girl who was gangraped and later died in Delhi last week. An FIR was filed under multiple sections of the IPC and Epidemic Diseases Act, for violation of Section 144 CrPC in Hathras. Azad had marched for about five km after he was stopped by the police first when he was on his way. Later, he was stopped again by the UP Police when he held a massive protest after entering Hathras.

Amid the outrage that has followed the death of the Hathras Dalit gangrape victim and the building pressure on Adityantha&rsquo;s government over a spate of horrific crimes against women, the UP CM on Friday took to twitter to claim that his government is "committed to the safety, security and development of all mothers and sisters". He has also promised exemplary punishment for all culprits. &lsquo;Those who even think of harming mothers and daughters in UP, their destruction is assured&rsquo;, he tweeted. Meanwhile, in the wake of number of opposition party leaders trying to enter Hathras to speak to the victim&rsquo;s family members, Additional SP Prakash Kumar citing law &amp; order situation has restricted entry of individuals, political delegations and media in the village till SIT completes probe.
