The Supreme Court on Tuesday entrusted Allahabad high court to monitor the CBI probe into the gang-rape and murder of a dalit girl in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras. The Supreme Court was hearing a batch of pleas which have sought a court-monitored probe into the Hathras case, in which a Dalit girl was allegedly brutally raped and died of injuries.
A bench headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde said that plea for transfer of trial out of Uttar Pradesh in the case would be considered later after the CBI probe is completed.

She took a jibe asking why is Rahul Gandhi not going to Hoshiarpur on a &lsquo;picnic&rsquo;, adding incidents of rape should not be politicised.
Referring to Rahul and Priyanka&rsquo;s outrage over Hathras incident, Sitharaman also asked why the Hoshiarpur incident doesn't shake the conscience of the brother and sister who rush to places which can help them politically.

The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday requested the Supreme Court to monitor the CBI probe into the alleged gang rape and torture of the Hathras Dalit woman who died last month in the capital. The state government also requested the top court to direct the investigating agency to submit fortnightly status reports.
It stressed on its &lsquo;commitment to provide complete security to victims' family and witnesses&rsquo; and in its affidavit submitted a list of police personnel posted for security. The apex court was informed that eight CCTV cameras have been installed outside the victim&rsquo;s home to keep a watch.

Kondagaon, PTI: A BJP MP from Chhattisgarh has stoked a controversy by reportedly referring to the alleged gangrape and death of a 19-year-old Dalit woman in Hathras as a "banavati" (fake) incident, drawing flak from the ruling Congress.
Mohan Mandavi, who represents Kanker seat, had made these remarks during a protest held last week by his party in Kondagaon district over the alleged gangrape and suicide by an 18-year-old tribal woman in Dhanora area.
"If there will a CBI investigation (into Dhanora case), similar incidents will be unearthed in every four to five villages (of Bastar in Chhhattisgarh)...those who fabricate the false story of Hathras. No atrocity had occurred there.
".....'use banawati banakar, use atyachar banakar' (by making up the Hathras incident), senior Congress leaders have been visiting there where nothing has happened," Mandavi said while addressing a gathering, a video of which has been doing rounds of social media.
The BJP leader said atrocities have been taking place on tribals in Bastar.
"Why don't they (Congress leaders) come here? Why do they hide their faces? Where are so-called well wishers of tribals have gone? Chief Minister (Bhupesh Baghel) should step down as they are not able to handle the situation here," he had said.
He later told local reporters that newspapers have reported that Hathras incident was 'banawati' (fake).
"It is viral on twitter. That (Hathras) was a banavat incident while it (which occurred in Dhanora) was a genuine one. Therefore, we have staged a demonstration.
"The Congress stages protests for made-up incidents and not for genuine ones. Hathras is located miles away from here where no one has given us votes but the Congress has been going there for staging a dharna," the MP added.
Reacting sharply, the Congress said the MP's remarks reflects the mindset of BJP towards the Hathras incident.

The UP Police has introduced a new twist in the Hathras case. The police have said that the 19-year-old woman who was brutally assaulted and murdered was in constant with the main accused in the case, reports have said. According to the police, the main accused Sandeep Singh, received regular calls from a phone number registered in the name of victim's brother. Call records show that a total of 104 calls -- 62 outgoing and 42 incoming -- were made between the two phone numbers, reports added quoting police. According to the police, the call records show that the victim and the main accused were in touch.

The Special Investigation Team probing the Hathras&nbsp;alleged gangrape and murder case has been given 10 more days to submit its report

The Special Investigation Team, probing the death of a 19-year-old Dalit woman after an alleged gangrape in UP's Hathras, will not be submitting its status report to CM Yogi Adityanath today. The team has been given 10 more days to submit the report. Earlier, the CM had directed the team to submit its report within 3 days. The three-member SIT had visited the victim's village and the crime scene on Tuesday.

&nbsp;The apex court&nbsp;heard&nbsp;a PIL seeking a CBI or a SIT probe monitored by a sitting or retired Supreme Court or High Court judge. &nbsp;&nbsp;
