Alleged Haldwani violence mastermind Abdul Malik was arrested in Delhi and brought to Uttarakhand.

The Uttarakhand Police on Saturday arrested the February 8 Haldwani violence alleged mastermind Abdul Malik from Delhi and brought him here, officials said.
Nainital Senior Superintendent of Police Prahlad Narayan Meena said six teams were formed to search for Malik and his son Abdul Moid in different states including Gujarat, Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
One of the teams arrested Malik, who is in his 50s, from Delhi but his son is still on the run, Meena told reporters.
"We have brought Malik to Haldwani. He is in our custody. He will be produced before a court at the earliest," he said.
Apart from Malik, two more rioters were arrested on Saturday which takes the total number of people arrested so far in the case to 81.
Malik allegedly built an "illegal" madrasa in the Banbhoolpura area of Haldwani. Its demolition led to the violence in Banbhoolpura area of Haldwani in Nanital district on February 8.
Malik had vehemently opposed the administration's action and his wife Safia had gone to the court challenging the Municipal Corporation notice for its demolition.
However, the court did not grant them immediate relief and the structure was demolished, triggering incidents of stone-pelting and arson in the Muslim dominated Banbhoolpura area.
A lookout notice was issued against Malik and his son on February 16 and his properties were attached. Six people were killed and more than a hundred including police personnel and journalists injured in the Banbhoolpura violence.
Apart from the three FIRs lodged initially, a fresh case was registered by the police against six persons including Malik and his wife Safia charging them with criminal conspiracy and fraudulently using a dead man's name for illegal plotting, construction and transfer of land.
In the fresh case, the accused have been charged with hatching a criminal conspiracy to mislead the government departments and the court on the basis of false affidavits, the SSP said.
They were booked under sections 120B(criminal conspiracy), 417 (cheating) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the IPC, he told reporters. According to local media reports, a joint team of Delhi and Uttarakhand police arrested Malik. He is repeatedly being brought to Haldwani for questioning.
Police had claimed that it was Abdul Malik who built the illegal mosque on a government land in Banbhulpura, and allegedly planned the violence on February 8 after it was razed down during the anti-encroachment drive. &nbsp;
So far, five people have been arrested. Sixteen people were named as accused in the three FIRs.
The residents of Banbhoolpura area, where the curfew is still in force, are being allowed to buy essentials from time to time.
According to police, the movement of trains up to Kathgodam has also been resumed and no fresh untoward incident has been reported from anywhere.
More than 60 people were injured on Thursday after locals hurled stones and petrol bombs at municipal workers and police, forcing many police personnel to seek refuge at a police station, which the mob then set on fire.
Seven people, including a journalist, were undergoing treatment on Friday at three different hospitals. Three of them were said to be in a serious condition.

Five of the 16 named in the FIR have been arrested in connection with the Haldwani violence that killed 6 and left 60 injured.
Police said that they have launched a manhunt to trace Abdul Malik, the man who built the "illegal" madrassa, whose demolition triggered violent clashes.
"The police have begun a search for an accused named Abdul Malik who had built the now razed illegal structure and opposed its demolition most strongly," Nainital Senior Superintendent of Police Prahlad Meena said at a press conference, reports PTI news agency.
CCTV footage and video clips of the incidents of Thursday collected from different sources are being analysed to identify the rioters, the police said.
The police further said that internet services will remain suspended in the violence-hit Banbhoolpura town to prevent rumours from spreading through social media platforms.
Shops on the outskirts of the town opened on Saturday following the partial lifting of the curfew but schools remained closed.
Meanwhile, the government has launched a magisterial probe and a report will be submitted in 15 days.&nbsp;
About the people killed in the violence, the SSP said no one died in the police firing and a post-mortem will clarify the circumstances of their death.
"No one died in the firing as we had searched the entire area after the firing and found no bodies. The bodies were found the next day in hospitals. Post-mortem and forensic examination reports will clarify the circumstances that led to their death," he said.

Uttarakhand DGP Abhinav Kumar on Friday said action under the stringent National Security Act will be taken against those who attacked police personnel and indulged in arson and vandalism in Haldwani.
The DGP along with ADG (law and order) AP Anshuman visited the violence-hit town in Nainital district to assess the situation in consultation with senior officials.
"Action under the NSA will be taken against unruly elements who attacked police personnel, and indulged in arson and vandalism at the police station in Banbhoolpura," he said.
The situation has been brought under control to a large extent with the imposition of curfew but the efforts at the moment are focused on bringing back normalcy in the town within the next 24 hours, DGP Kumar said.
Kumar held a meeting with district officials in Haldwani to get their feedback on the situation and visited the hospitals where the injured were admitted and the police station which was torched and vandalised by miscreants.
A high alert has been sounded across the state following violence in Haldwani that broke out after the demolition of an alleged illegal building was demolished.&nbsp;

Nainital district magistrate Vandana Singh said that the violence in Haldwani on Thursday was not communal in nature and urged everyone to refrain from making it one.&nbsp;
Singh said that no particular community resorted to violence.&nbsp;
'This (incident) was not communal. I request everybody to not make it communal or sensitive. Any particular community did not retaliate...This was an effort to challenge the state machinery, state govt and the law and order situation,' she said while addressing a press conference.&nbsp;
Two people were killed and three critically injured in violence that broke out over the demolition of an alleged illegal bulding in Haldwani. A curfew has been imposed in the city with shoot-at-sight orders in place.&nbsp;
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a high-level meeting at his official residence in Dehradun on Friday and instructed Additional Director General of Police (ADG), Law and Order, A P Anshuman, to camp in Haldwani to ensure peace and law and order in the town's Banbhoolpura area.
Taking strong note of the attack on police personnel and administrative officials and an attempt to spread unrest in the area during the removal of illegal construction, the chief minister ordered strict action against unruly elements.
He asked the senior officials attending the meeting to maintain constant coordination with the Nainital DM.
The SSP said police had to use force in self-defence when an irate mob of unruly elements attacked the Banbhoolpura police station and police personnel.
The two casualties were due to gunshot injuries, he said.
One of the three people injured sustained a gunshot wound and the two others received different kinds of injuries, Meena said. They are under treatment, he added.
Four people have been arrested for allegedly being involved in the attack on the police station and police personnel and three FIRs registered, the SSP said.
Ensuring the safety of people in Haldwani town and dealing firmly with elements trying to disrupt peace is their foremost responsibility, the officials said.
Around 15 to 20 people seem to have been involved in instigating the mob, the SSP said.
"The violence on Thursday was totally unprovoked and a handiwork of unruly elements who were not trying to protect the structures being demolished but were targeting the authorities, the state machinery, law and order," the DM said.
Police dispersed the stone-pelting and petrol bomb-hurling mob without using excess force until the police station was attacked, she said.
The mob was armed with crude weapons, including country-made pistols, and set vehicles parked outside the police station on fire, she said.
The situation in the town is under control now with a curfew imposed and around 1,100 police personnel deployed there, the SSP said.
Internet services in Haldwani have been suspended to prevent rumours being spread, officials said.
The DM said the structures stood on encroached government land and were demolished after a prior notice in compliance with a court order and the completion of all legal formalities.
The demolition drive began after the municipal corporation had taken complete legal possession of the two structures, she added.
The demolition exercise was not an isolated incident targeting particular structures but part of an anti-encroachment drive being carried out in different parts of the state to free illegally-occupied government land, Singh said.

Haldwani's district magistrate Vandana Singh on Friday said that the demolition drive was not targeted towards a particular community and that the people were given notice and ample time for a hearing. Addressing a press conference a day after the violence, Singh that the attack on the municipal team and the police was planned.&nbsp;
"Despite carrying out the drive unprovoked, unharmed, a large mob gathered within half an hour and pelted stones at the municipal corporation team. Stones were raining from all sides. In the video that we showed, you can see that there were no stones. So, when the whole process was going on, stones were collected. This means that the whole attack was planned.&nbsp;
The violence erupted on Thursday evening after the municipal officials razed down a madrasa and a mosque that allegedly stood on Nazul land in Banbhoolpura area in Haldwani district. A Nazul land is a government-owned property that is taken up on a lease.&nbsp;&nbsp;
"It is an empty property that has two structures, which is not registered as a religious structure, or has been given any such recognition. Some call the structure a madrasa," Singh said.
Earlier reports claimed that four people died and at least 100 police officers were injured. However,&nbsp; DM Singh clarified that two people were killed in the violence.
Meanwhile, a shoot-at-sight order has been issued and a curfew has also been imposed in the violence-hit area. Schools and colleges for all classes have been shut down.
