Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed's son Talha Hafiz Saeed lost while contesting for National Assembly elections from Pakistan's Lahore NA 122 constituency.
According to local media reports, PTI-backed Latif Khosa won with 117,109 votes, while Saeed received only 2,024 votes.
Hafiz Saeed-backed party, the Pakistan Markazi Muslim League, put up candidates in every national and provincial assembly constituency in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan's PTI-backed candidates are giving a tough fight to Nawaz Sharif's PML (N) party.
Pakistan's authorities were moving at a snail's pace to announce the election, which was marred by allegations of rigging, sporadic violence, and a countrywide mobile phone shutdown.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, PML-N Chief Organiser Maryam Nawaz, Sharif's daughter, wrote: "As opposed to the false perception deliberately built by a section of media last night, PML-N, Alhamdulillah emerging as the single largest party in the centre and Punjab. " "Some results awaited. MNS (Mian Nawaz Sharif) will head to PML-N HQ for the victory speech as soon as the final results are received. Insha&rsquo;Allah. Stay tuned," she said.
Meanwhile, PML-N leader Ishaq Dar said that the independent candidates, who are emerging victorious in the 2024 general elections, are in contact with the party.
"The independents have contacted us and they will join any party in the next 72 hours as per the Constitution," the former finance minister told Geo News on Friday.

Mumbai terror attack mastermind and outlawed Jamat-ud-Dawah chief Hafiz Saeed is in the custody of Pakistan serving a 78-year-imprisonment sentence as a result of a conviction in seven terror financing cases, the UN said in updated information.
In December, India asked Pakistan to extradite Saeed, a United Nations-proscribed terrorist, who is wanted by Indian probe agencies in a number of terror cases.
Saeed, who was designated as a global terrorist by the UN Security Council&rsquo;s 1267 Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee in December 2008, is &ldquo;in (the) custody of the Government of Pakistan, serving a 78-year imprisonment sentence since 12 February 2020 as a result of conviction in seven terror financing cases,&rdquo; the Sanctions Committee said in an amended entry.
Last month, the Security Council Committee enacted amendments to certain entries in its ISIL (Da&rsquo;esh) and Al-Qaida Sanctions List of individuals and entities subject to the assets freeze, travel ban, and arms embargo.

Under these amendments, the Sanctions Committee also noted that Hafiz Abdul Salam Bhuttavi, founding member of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Saeed's deputy, is "confirmed deceased." Bhuttavi, an UN-designated terrorist who trained the LeT attackers for the 2008 Mumbai terror attack and acted as the terror outfit&rsquo;s chief on at least two occasions, died in prison in May last year in Pakistan's Punjab province while serving a sentence for terror financing.

He has been accused of raising funds, recruiting and radicalising youth, and planning terrorist attacks in India, especially Jammu and Kashmir.

Yet another Pakistan-based terrorist has been declared as a global terrorist by the United Nations Security Council.
The UNSC's ISIL (Da'esh) and Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee on 16 January 2023 added Abdul Rehman Makki to its list of global terrorists. Makki is the brother-in-law of Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed.
In June 2022, China had blocked India's proposal to add Makki to the list of the Sanctions Committee, which is also called the UNSC 1267 Committee. Makki has already been designated a terrorist by India and the United States of America under domestic laws.
He has been accused of raising funds, recruiting and radicalising youth, and planning terrorist attacks in India, especially Jammu and Kashmir.

A Pakistani terrorist who plotted attacks against India, claimed to have been dead for years, and suddenly arrested and jailed a few days ago.
In an interesting turn of events, terrorist Sajid Majeed Mir has been sentenced to 15 and a half years in prison. He was part of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack plot, and had been declared dead by Pakistani authorities earlier.
An anti-terrorism court in Lahore issued the verdict in early June. Mir had been incarcerated at Lahore's Kot Lakhpat prison since his arrest in April. An embarrassed Islamabad apparently tried to keep the case under wraps with the Counter Terrorism Department of Punjab Police not notifying the conviction.

Sajid Mir is a Lashkar-e-Taiba operative who is on the Most Wanted lists in India and USA. He acted as the 'project manager' of the 26/11 conspiracy, and handled the plotting and reconnaissance operations. Mir recruited David Headley, who had visited India to carry out surveys of the areas which were eventually attacked. Mir is also accused of conspiring to carry out attacks in Denmark.
He now joins other top Lashkar operatives in prison. These include chief of the terror organisation, Hafiz Saeed - the mastermind of the 26/11 attacks. He has been sentenced to 68 years in prison in terror financing cases. However, he is expected to spend very little time in jail as the sentences will run concurrently.
Another Lashkar terrorist in jail is Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi. He acted as the operational commander of the 26/11 conspiracy. He is also in jail under terror financing charges.

So, why is Pakistan suddenly taking action against terrorists, after years of letting them roam free?
The country is currently trying to exit the 'grey list' of the Financial Action Task Force, or FATF. Islamabad was placed in the grey list in 2018 for allowing terror financing and money laundering from its territory. In order to exit the grey list, Pakistan has to take action against terrorists. To verify that effective action has truly been taken, FATF officials are slated to visit the country soon.
If Pakistan fails to convince FATF that it is cracking down on terrorist networks, then it might be relegated to the 'black list'. This would lead to imposition of sanctions. Foreign investments and loans will dry up, and trade with other countries will become extremely difficult.
Pakistan is already struggling with economic distress along with political instability.If the FATF decides to penalise Islamabad, it might just push the country into a Sri Lanka-like situation.
But it is also difficult to believe that a country which has encouraged terrorism for many decades, has suddenly decided to clean up its act. So, is the jailing of sinister terrorists justice, or just a show?

In a notification, the Union home ministry said that Hafiz Talha Saeed, 46, has been actively involved in recruitment, fund collection, and planning and executing attacks by the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in India and Indian interests in Afghanistan.
He has also been actively visiting various LeT centres across Pakistan, and during his sermons propagating for jihad against India, Israel, the United States of America and Indian interests in other western countries, it stated.
“And whereas, the central government believes that Hafiz Talha Saeed is involved in terrorism and he should be notified as a terrorist under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (37 of 1967),” the notification said.
Hafiz Saeed was the brain behind the Mumbai terror attacks of November 26, 2008, in which 166 people were killed.
He had been declared a terrorist under the same law a few years ago and is currently serving a jail term in Pakistan on terror charges.
India has been consistently seeking Hafiz Saeed's custody but Pakistan has refused to do so.
Apart from the 26/11 attacks, the LeT has been responsible for a series of deadly attacks in India, mostly in Jammu and Kashmir, in which scores of civilians and security personnel have been killed over the years.
