The incident has also impacted the software's cloud-based service, although no exploitation has been detected so far. Cybersecurity firms Rapid7 and Mandiant Consulting have identified cases of data theft resulting from the flaw's exploitation. Such previously unknown vulnerabilities in file transfer solutions have historically led to data breaches, leaks, extortion, and victim-shaming. While the motive behind the attack is unclear, organisations are advised to prepare for potential extortion or public disclosure of the stolen data. Progress Software has provided guidelines for users to mitigate security risks. The company is working with forensic partners to gain a comprehensive understanding of the situation.

In a blog post, the director of Google's Project Zero revealed that his team discovered 18 zero-day vulnerabilities in Samsung's Exynos modems, including four critical holes that could surreptitiously infect afflicted devices through the cellular network. These flaws might allow attackers to intercept calls, texts, and other data without notifying the victim.
Phones from Samsung, including the S22, M33, M13, M12, A71, A53, A33, A21, A13, A12, and A04 series, as well as Vivo phones, including the S16, S15, S6, X70, X60, and X30 series, are also affected. Additionally, Google's own Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series, as well as wearables and cars that use Samsung's Exynos W920 and Auto T5123 chips to connect to the cellular network, are among those affected. Days earlier, Chandigarh's police chief was targeted in a similar way. Fraudsters posed as Praveer Ranjan on WhatsApp and asked the DGP's acquintances to send Amazon gift cards.

In March, a similar scam took place in Kerala. A teacher in Kollam was duped of ₹14 lakh after fraudsters sent WhatsApp messages posing as Kerala's police chief. Recent cases have highlighted at least 3 types of common scams which are perpetrated through WhatsApp and Facebook.
The first is WhatsApp hijacking. Scamsters try to log into their target's WhatsApp account by using that person's phone number. Then, to get the verification pin, the criminals pose as WhatsApp technicians. If the target shares the PIN, then scamsters gain access to the person's WhatsApp account. Subsequently, they send messages to the target's friends and family seeking money, or further OTPs.

The second type is the WhatsApp DP scam which we told you about earlier. For this, a WhatsApp account is created using a fake or virtual SIM. Then a government official's photograph is set as the profile picture. Subsequently, messages are sent to unsuspecting people seeking money or other favours.
Another type of scam involves fake Facebook accounts. In this, scamsters create fake accounts of their targets and then contact the target's friends and family. Covid troubles, and financial crisis are common excuses used by scamsters to seek money in this type of con.
With such cases emerging in various parts of the country, authorities have been spreading awareness and telling people how to stay safe.
Some of the basic precautions include not replying to messages from unknown numbers even if the profile picture is of a person whom you know. Do not transfer money without verifying the request offline with the person asking for help.
Do not share OTPs, passwords, bank details, and credit and debit card information under any circumstances. Do not install remote access apps, and do not click on suspicious links. Also, secure your social media accounts by enabling two-factor authentication.
Cyber criminals prey on people's lack of awareness to carry out their cons. So share this information as widely as possible to make such scams virtually impossible.

Another group whose name has emerged is 1877. It is apparently a grouping of Iraqi hackers who seem to have partnered with DragonForce for OpsPatuk. 1877 group attacked the ICAR website, among others.
Then there is One Hat Cyber Team, a group of hackers who apparently belong to Indonesia. The One Hat Cyber Team hacked the website of Thane Police, and demanded an apology over the Mohammad controversy.
The targets of these cyber criminals have been varied. Some of the websites which were attacked include those of the Indian embassy in Israel, the Maharashtra Judicial Academy, Thane Police, National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, and Institute of Science, Nagpur.
Cyber crime is turning out to be a major threat for India. The country saw 1.8 crore cyber attacks and threats in the first three months of 2022, as per US-based cyber security firm Norton. Between January and March, India saw almost 60,000 phishing attempts, and over 30,000 tech support scams, according to the Norton study.

The attackers initially demanded $300 in bitcoin to unlock infected computer systems. The demand was later increased to $600 in bitcoin. However, some researchers claim that no one got their data back, even if they met the demands.
2. SamSam: It made headlines in 2018 when it infected the city of Atlanta, the Colorado Department of Transportation, and the Port of San Diego, causing major disruptions of service. That same ransomware was utilized by different bad actors again that same year against hospitals, municipalities, and public institutions, causing an estimated loss of $30 million.
3. Ryuk: Both 2019 and 2020 were dominated by Ryuk ransomware spread mainly via phishing emails, containing dangerous links and attachments. Prior to recent attacks, Ryuk was the costliest to remediate, with ransom amounts exceeding $300,000 in some cases. Authorities state that Ryuk’s attacks have already caused more than $60 million in damage worldwide.
4. REvil Ransomware: This was one of the most well-known cases of 2020, especially because of the big names involved. Grubman Shire Meiselas & Sacks, a law firm that handles international celebrities such as Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, and more, was hacked in mid-May by REvil Ransomware, also popularly known as Sodinokibi. Media reports said that about 756 GB of private documents and correspondence with clients were stolen. The hacker group had taken control over the personal information of its high-profile clients and demanded a $21 million ransom.
5. Maze Ransomware: The biggest Ransomware attack of 2020 was led by technology giant Cognizant. It cost the company a staggering $50 to $70 million in revenue loss, and recovery and mitigation efforts. This barred its work from home capabilities and encrypted its servers.

Hundreds of C-suite level email credentials are being sold on a Russian-speaking underground forum, tech news website ZDNet reported.
The hacker is reportedly selling email and password combinations for Office 365 and Microsoft accounts belonging to high-level executives such as the CEO, COO, CFO, CMO and CTO, among many others.
As per the report, access to any of these accounts is sold for prices ranging from $100 to $1,500, depending on the company size and user's role.

According to a report on zdnet.com, the hacker who goes by the name Gnosticplayers has struck yet again by stealing and posting the data of nearly 93 million users of various popular websites on a Dark Web marketplace. This comes after the same hacker had earlier accessed the personal data of 750 million Dark web marketplace users and put the information on sale. The stolen information includes account holders' names, email addresses and passwords.
