The US President's advisory committee has recommended a provision for H1-B visas to be stamped with their country, a move if approved by President Joe Biden, will serve as a breather for many working professionals, including Indians.
A Presidential Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islands on Thursday in a unanimous decision made the suggestion to the White House owing to impending visa applications.
For the unversed, the H-1B visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows US firms to hire employees from different countries in occupations that require special expertise.
The larger chunk of demand comes from Silicon Valley which hires tens of thousands of employees each years from countries like India and China.
The recent recommendation will have a major impact on the long waiting period for Indians who wait for over a year for renewal of H-1B visas.
The current waiting period for visa renweal is problematic in many ways. People have to wait really long to get appointments for visa applications.
Even in emergency situations, like death or some family function,  at times people are not able to travel back to their native country in the fear of often delay in the visa application
The waiting period in India, as of now, is 844 days, reported news agency PTI quoting Ajay Jain Bhutoria, member of Presidential commission.
The repercussions are such that some people end up losing their jobs, disrupting household incomes of many families.
The recommendation points that US Citizenship and Immigration Commission (USCIS) should update its policy and permit the stamping and extension of visas within Washington DC, as was done earlier. 
The current proposal was applicable previouslay was but was discontinued. 
"This recommendation is to request USCIS to allow the stamping in the US. Alternatively, USCIS should also consider providing advanced travel documents to these visa holders when they will travel out of the country with expired visa stamping so that they can re-enter the U. S. without having to get re-stamping in their home countries,” Mr. Bhutoria said.
Among other issue is the family separation issue as the long waiting period takes a toll on people's mental health.The proposal, therefore, has been moved to bring a diginified process and approach that will make people's life easier.

Shiv Nadar founded HCL Tech reportedly underpaid Indian employees in the US compared to their American counterparts. ET reports that as per internal documents the IT services firm paid H-1B visa workers lower wages versus the salaries of the US employees,   Economic Policy Institute (EPI) said in a report, that HCL Tech underpaid H-1B visa holders by up to $95 million in the last few years. This is in violation of the H-1B program which requires that immigrant visa holders be paid at par with local US workers, in order to ensure that American jobs are not taken away by visa holders on lower wages.  Last year, HCL was ranked eighth in total H-1B approvals, with 1,405 new visas and 2,801 visa renewals. But HCL Tech is not the lone offender says EPI as it states that Oracle experts with H-1B visas are paid $55,000 less than US workers.
