Gyanvapi mosque survey concludes on day-2, to continue on Sunday

A team of experts from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT-K) is assisting the ASI in the survey work.

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on Saturday examined the central hall of the Gyanvapi mosque on the second day of the scientific survey to determine if the 17th-century mosque was constructed over a pre-existing structure of a Hindu temple.
Five members from the Muslim side were also present during the survey, after having stayed away on Friday.
Government counsel Rajesh Mishra, who was with the ASI survey team a day before as well, on Saturday said the team started work in the morning and completed it by 5 pm. The survey work was stopped between 1 pm to 3 pm for lunch.
ASI officials told PTI that the survey work will resume again at 8 am on Sunday.
According to ASI officials, the team examined the central hall of the mosque where Namaz is offered. The team also surveyed a few basement areas in the complex.
Advocate Tauheed Khan for the Muslim side said two lawyers of the Intezamia Masjid Committee accompanied the survey team.

Much before it was submitted to the court, a survey report of the Gyanvapi mosque complex in Varanasi was leaked. According to the leaked information  the media reported that the surveyors had found a ‘Shivling’ inside the complex much to the elation of the right wing Hindu groups. 
On the last day of the court-ordered filming on Monday, the lawyer for the Hindu petitioners claimed a ‘Shivling’ was found at a pond used for purification rituals before namaaz, inside the mosque complex.
And now a top  top official leading the filming of the Gyanvapi mosque complex has been sacked over leaked information.
Ajay Mishra was removed as survey commissioner after lawyers representing the Hindu petitioners and the mosque respondents had a heated argument in court on Tuesday over the findings of the filming being leaked to the media even before the report was submitted to court.
Mishra was removed on a complaint by Vishal Singh, who helped him in preparing the report. Mishra told NDTV he was betrayed by Vishal Singh who has now been appointed as the survey commissioner.
According to Singh Mishra had appointed a videographer who was giving statements in the media and spreading rumours.  Appearing to concede that the videographer he hired had leaked the details, Mishra fienged helplessness saying he hired the photographer, but he cheated.
The court is hearing the petition of five Hindu women who claim there are idols of Hindu gods and goddesses inside the mosque.nism at the reservoir.
Meanwhile, declining to stay proceedings before a Varanasi court, the Supreme Court Tuesday asked the Varanasi district magistrate to secure the area where a Shivling was claimed to have been found without impeding or restricting the rights of Muslims to access and offer namaz at the mosque.
