 Swami Avimukteshwaranand, who was denied permission to offer prayers at ‘Shivling’ claimed to be found in the Gyanvapi mosque complex during a court-monitored survey of the premises, ended his fast on Wednesday.
Avimuktreswaranand, a disciple of Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati, had announced to offer prayers at the site on June 4.
On being stopped by the police, he sat on a fast that continued for over 108 hours.
He said he received a letter from Swami Swaroopanand, asking him to end the fast.
This comes in the wake of claims by Hindu litigants in the Shringar Gauri-Gyanvapi Mosque case that a ‘Shivling’ was found in the complex during a court-mandated survey of the premises last month.
However, the Muslim side has maintained that the object was part of the water fountain mechanism at the “wazoo khana”, where namazis (faithfuls) carry out ablutions before offering the namaz.
A local court had ordered the videographic survey of the Gyanvapi complex on a plea by five Hindu women that they be allowed to worship Hindu deities whose idols are installed on the outer wall of the mosque.

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat has said that the Sangh fountainhead was not in favour of launching any other movements amid a row over Gyanvapi mosque. Addressing the concluding session of the RSS officer training camp in Nagpur, Bhagwat said the Gyanvapi dispute involves some issues of faith and the court’s decision on it should be accepted by all.Bhagwat questioned what he called the need to “look for a Shivling in every mosque.
The saffron leader said that the Gyanvapi mosque has a history which neither the Hindus or Muslims of today can change. 
“Hindus are not opposed to Muslims. The ancestors of Muslims were Hindus. Many feel that what was done (the demolition of temples) was done to break the morale of Hindus. A section of Hindus now feel that these temples need to be reconstructed,” he said.

MNS general secretary Ajay Shinde on Sunday said they have launched the 'Punyeshwar Mukti' (free the temple land) campaign, and appealed to people to support the Raj Thackeray-led party's fight in restoring the temple land.
Citing a recent survey of the Gyanvapi mosque, Shinde said government has started waking up in the wake of Raj Thackeray's stand on Hindutva.
"Like Gyanvapi, we are also fighting for the Punyeshwar temple in Pune," he said.
Shinde claimed that a commader of Khilji dynasty ruler Alauddin Khilji had demolished the Punyeshwar and Narayaneshwar temples in Pune and later dargahs were built on the land.

Ajay Mishra was removed as survey commissioner after lawyers representing the Hindu petitioners and the mosque respondents had a heated argument in court on Tuesday over the findings of the filming being leaked to the media even before the report was submitted to court.
Mishra was removed on a complaint by Vishal Singh, who helped him in preparing the report. Mishra told NDTV he was betrayed by Vishal Singh who has now been appointed as the survey commissioner.
According to Singh Mishra had appointed a videographer who was giving statements in the media and spreading rumours.  Appearing to concede that the videographer he hired had leaked the details, Mishra fienged helplessness saying he hired the photographer, but he cheated.
The court is hearing the petition of five Hindu women who claim there are idols of Hindu gods and goddesses inside the mosque.nism at the reservoir.
Meanwhile, declining to stay proceedings before a Varanasi court, the Supreme Court Tuesday asked the Varanasi district magistrate to secure the area where a Shivling was claimed to have been found without impeding or restricting the rights of Muslims to access and offer namaz at the mosque.

If we could change government... the Babri Masjid issue has been adjudicated by the courts, and now Gyanvapi Mosque issue has erupted. You are free to disagree with me," he added.

In his order allowing filming inside the Gyanvapi mosque on Thursday, the judge noted that 'an ordinary civil matter has been converted into an extraordinary issue' and that there was an 'atmosphere of fear' causing his wife to worry about his security.
The court has allowed videography in all places inside the Gyanvapi mosque, as asked for by the petitioners and has ordered for the survey to be completed by May 17. 
The local court earlier had directed the report of the survey to be submitted by May 10, but it could not be completed because of the dispute over videography inside the mosque premises. 
Lawyer for the Gyanvapi mosque management, Abhay Nath Yadav, called the court's order illegal and said they would be challenging it soon.
