Gujarat BJP president C R Paatil said Bhupendra Patel would continue as the state's chief minister and his swearing-in ceremony would be held on December 12.

With the Bharatiya Janata Party set for a landslide victory in Gujarat, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Thursday credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for it and said the people of the state have rejected the anti-national elements in the Assembly election.
Gujarat BJP president C R Paatil said Bhupendra Patel would continue as the state's chief minister and his swearing-in ceremony would be held on December 12.
The BJP with a vote share of nearly 54 per cent was ahead in 152 out of the total 182 seats in Gujarat, as per the latest trends, and could surpass its previous best showing of 127 seats in 2002 when Modi was the state's chief minister.

The Congress holds the all-time record of 149 seats that it had won in 1985 under the leadership of Madhavsinh Solanki.
Addressing a press conference in Gujarat, CM Patel said, "The people of Gujarat have once again reposed faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP leadership. If the masses of Gujarat have elected the BJP, then we have to live up to their expectations." "The people of Gujarat have rejected the anti-national elements in this election and have voted for the BJP's track record of development in the state," he said.
Gujarat BJP president C R Paatil, who was also present at the press conference, said Bhupendra Patel would continue as the state's chief minister and his oath ceremony would take place on December 12.
Hitting out at the new poll entrant Aam Aadmi Party for trying to demean the people of Gujarat with "dole" politics, Paatil said, "The AAP never thought about Gujarati Asmita and was never able to connect with the psyche of the Gujarati people." " All anti-Gujarati forces have been defeated...The Congress must introspect as to why they are losing public support," he said.

Patidar leader Hardik Patel and 16 Congress MLAs joined BJP between 2017-2022. The party has been unable to win 66 urban, semi-urban seats in past 30 years. This election it is without concrete support due to the focus on Bharat Jodo Yatra
Congress&rsquo; biggest opportunity this election is that BJP faces 27 years of anti-incumbency and add to it BJP&rsquo;s gradual loss of seats in each assembly election since 2002. Leaders of the party feel that Arvind Kejriwal's party will damage the urban vote bank of the BJP more than the rural vote bank of the Congress.
But the BJP comes with the 'Modi factor' that can give it an edge once again over rival parties. Another threat that looms over Congress is a vigorous attempt by the AAP and AIMIM to eat into the support base of the Congress. All exit polls predicted a big mandate for the BJP in Gujarat in the range of 117-151 seats in the 182-member assembly, while the Congress was predicted to bag seats in the range of 16-51 seats.
The AAP was projected to bag between two and 13 seats. The majority mark in Gujarat is 92.

Kejriwal said a new party like the AAP getting "15 to 20 per cent vote share" in a state considered the BJP's stronghold was a "big thing" and called it a positive sign.&nbsp;

An average 58.68% voter turnout was recorded till 5 pm on Monday in the second and final phase of the Gujarat Assembly elections covering 93 seats across 14 districts of north and central regions, the Election Commission said.

Along CM Bhupendra Patel, BJP leaders Hardik Patel and Alpesh Thakor, and Congress leader Jignesh Mevani are among those in the fray in the second phase of polls.

An average 58.68% voter turnout was recorded till 5 pm on Monday in the second and final phase of the Gujarat Assembly elections covering 93 seats across 14 districts of north and central regions, the Election Commission said.
The electoral fate of CM Bhupendra Patel and 832 other candidates, including 285 Independents, was on the ballot in the second phase.
Apart from CM Bhupendra Patel, BJP leaders Hardik Patel and Alpesh Thakor, and Congress leader Jignesh Mevani are among those in the fray in the second phase of polls.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Aam Aadmi Party's chief ministerial candidate Isudan Gadhvi and Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Sukhram Rathva were among those who cast votes.

Even as Gujarat polls are underway, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated a two-day meeting of BJP leaders in Delhi to review the party's preparations and chalk out strategy for the next round of elections in states and the all-important Lok Sabha contest in 2024.

Modi arrived in the national capital after casting vote in his home state.

The party's future strategy, preparations for the next round of state assembly polls and various ongoing organisational activities are being discussed. The meeting is also serving as a stock-taking exercise for leaders who are engaged in organisational works round the year, BJP sources said.
Various groups of leaders, including Union ministers, have also been roped in to further strengthen the party's presence, especially in places where it lost the 2019 Lok Sabha polls and is eying victory in 2024.

Gujarat polls: BJP names 160 candidates; large number of current legislators dropped

The saffron party has named Hardik Patel as its candidate from Viramgam and Rivaba Jadeja, who is wife of cricketer Ravindra Jadega, from Jamnagar North.

The BJP on Thursday released its first list of 160 candidates for the two-phase elections to the 182-member Gujarat Assembly, fielding Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel from his constituency Ghatlodia and dropping a number of sitting MLAs The party named its candidates for 84 of the 89 seats which will go to the polls in the first phase on December 1 and 76 of 93 candidates going to the polls in the second phase on December 5.
Union ministers Bhupender Yadav and Mansukh Mandaviya were joined by Gujarat BJP president C R Patil at a press conference here where Yadav named the candidates selected by the party's Central Election Committee at its meeting on Wednesday.
Yadav said the list includes 69 sitting MLAs, indicating that a large number of incumbent legislators has been dropped.
The list includes 14 women, and 13 and 24 members from the Schedules Castes and Schedules Tribes respectively.
He said a number of senior leaders from the state, including former chief minister Vijay Rupani and former deputy chief minister Nitin Patel, have opted out of the contest and had written to the party leadership to this effect.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other CEC members, including Union ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh besides party's national president J P Nadda, were in the meeting to finalise the candidates.

The BJP is hopeful of maintaining its uninterrupted winning streak in the state assembly polls since 1995.
The entry of the Aam Aadmi Party has added an extra dimension to the state's traditional bipolar elections, with the BJP's main challenger Congress hit by a fresh round of desertion by its leaders as it works to regroup.
