Rajasthan Chief Minister and Congress leader Ashok Gehlot released the election manifesto for the Gujarat Assembly elections&nbsp; The party promised 50 per cent reservation for women in government jobs and provide a monthly grant of Rs 2,000 to each single woman, widow and elderly woman in the state. The manifesto also promises to create 10 lakh jobs in the state for all Gujaratis Other promises include waiving the farmers' loan up to ₹3 lakh and implementing the One Pension Scheme in the state Hitting out at the ruling BJP in the state over the Morbi bridge accident that occurred recently, Gehlot said that the governance in the state was "zero". Congress also promised to rename the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to Sardar Patel Stadium, if it comes to power in Gujarat.

Gujarat polls: BJP names 160 candidates; large number of current legislators dropped

The saffron party has named Hardik Patel as its candidate from Viramgam and Rivaba Jadeja, who is wife of cricketer Ravindra Jadega, from Jamnagar North.

The BJP on Thursday released its first list of 160 candidates for the two-phase elections to the 182-member Gujarat Assembly, fielding Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel from his constituency Ghatlodia and dropping a number of sitting MLAs The party named its candidates for 84 of the 89 seats which will go to the polls in the first phase on December 1 and 76 of 93 candidates going to the polls in the second phase on December 5.
Union ministers Bhupender Yadav and Mansukh Mandaviya were joined by Gujarat BJP president C R Patil at a press conference here where Yadav named the candidates selected by the party's Central Election Committee at its meeting on Wednesday.
Yadav said the list includes 69 sitting MLAs, indicating that a large number of incumbent legislators has been dropped.
The list includes 14 women, and 13 and 24 members from the Schedules Castes and Schedules Tribes respectively.
He said a number of senior leaders from the state, including former chief minister Vijay Rupani and former deputy chief minister Nitin Patel, have opted out of the contest and had written to the party leadership to this effect.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other CEC members, including Union ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh besides party's national president J P Nadda, were in the meeting to finalise the candidates.

The BJP is hopeful of maintaining its uninterrupted winning streak in the state assembly polls since 1995.

Gujarat polls: Morbi MLA among 5 ministers denied ticket

The 38 BJP MLAs who have been denied the ticket this time also include former CM Vijay Rupani and seven legislators who were part of his cabinet between 2017 and 2021 as ministers.

Five Gujarat ministers including the MLA from Morbi are among 38 sitting BJP members of the Assembly who have been denied ticket by the party for the upcoming state elections.
Minister of State for Labour and Employment Brijesh Merja, the legislator from Morbi where a bridge collapse incident last month claimed 135 lives, is among those dropped from the list of 160 candidates whose names were announced by the BJP on Thursday.
Gujarat Assembly Speaker Nimaben Acharya, who won from Bhuj seat of Kutch district in 2012 and 2017, has also been denied ticket this time by the party.

From the present cabinet, the BJP has denied tickets to state Parliamentary and Legislative Affairs Minister Rajendra Trivedi, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Pradip Parmar, MoS for Labour and Employment Brijesh Merja, MoS for Transport Arvind Raiyani and MoS for Social Justice and Empowerment RC Makwana.
Trivedi was stripped of the crucial revenue portfolio a few months back.
The 38 BJP MLAs who have been denied the ticket this time also include former CM Vijay Rupani and seven legislators who were part of his cabinet between 2017 and 2021 as ministers.
Rupani and his entire Council of Ministers were replaced by the BJP in September 2021.
A completely new cabinet was later formed under the leadership of CM Bhupendra Patel.
Those from the previous cabinet who have not been considered this time include ex-chief minister Rupani, former deputy CM Nitin Patel and former ministers RC Faldu, Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, Saurabh Patel, Kaushik Patel, Vasan Ahir and Dharmendrasinh Jadeja.
Rupani and Nitin Patel had on Wednesday night announced they will not fight the next month's Assembly elections.
Bhupendrasinh Chudasama and Pradeepsinh Jadeja -- who were ministers in the Rupani cabinet -- had also announced they will not seek tickets for the upcoming polls.

He is the third Congress MLA to resign in the last two days after Mohansinh Rathwa and Bhagwan Barad.

Congress MLA from Jhalod in Gujarat's Dahod district Bhavesh Katara has resigned as the legislator, ahead of the upcoming state Assembly elections.
He is the third Congress MLA to resign in the last two days after Mohansinh Rathwa and Bhagwan Barad.
Katara went to the residence of Assembly Speaker Nimaben Acharya on Wednesday night and submitted his resignation to her, an official statement said.
His resignation comes at a time when the BJP is finalising candidates for the Gujarat Assembly elections.
Katara is likely to join the BJP on Thursday.
Earlier, Rathwa and Barad also joined the saffron party after resigning from the Congress party and as MLAs.
